If no body has dale mechanical skills they would be walking everywhere so I think dale is an essential member of the team, yeah anyone can kill walkers or humans but can anybody fix a rv, trucks, and cars. Shane was just mad he got caught.

Shane and Rick could easily do any mechanical work. They were cops and cops are trained to know all of that stuff to help people stuck on the side of the road. They know all of it

I feel bad for Shane in some ways BC you can tell before he went crazy that he was genuinely just trying to do what he believed to be necessary to keep the group alive and a lot of people say he was just selfishly looking out for Lori and Carl only rather than the entire group as a whole but I disagree after rewatching S1 and S2. Shane legit made the hard but 100% necessary choices from EP1 onwards which didn’t exactly make him popular amongst the survivors but it kept them all alive.

The best part of Dale and Shane’s interactions is that Dale doesn’t need to say a word to infuriate Shane, the judging stare is enough to set him off, and when insults don’t set him off all he can do is leave.

Dale always has the upper hand because Shane relies on having the high ground in a conversation and he uses intimidation as his main technique to gain it. Dale doesn't react or respond, which eliminates Shane's only source of power.
