Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a 2021 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Shang-Chi. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, from a screenplay he wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham, and stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley, and Tony Leung. In the film, Shang-Chi is forced to confront his past when his father Wenwu (Leung), the leader of the Ten Rings organization, draws Shang-Chi and his sister Xialing (Zhang) into a search for a mythical village.
A film based on Shang-Chi entered development in 2001, but work did not begin in earnest until December 2018 when Callaham was hired. Cretton joined in March 2019, with the project fast-tracked as Marvel's first film with an Asian lead. The film's title and primary cast were announced that July, revealing the film's connection to the Ten Rings organization, which previously appeared throughout the MCU, and its leader Wenwu. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian director and a predominantly Asian cast. Filming began in Sydney in February 2020 but was put on hold in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in August before completing in October, with additional shooting occurring in San Francisco.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in Los Angeles on August 16, 2021, and was released in the United States on September 3, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. It grossed over $432 million worldwide, making it the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2021. It set several Labor Day box office records and received positive reviews from critics, many of whom praised the choreography of the action sequences, exploration and representation of Asian culture, direction, and the performances from the cast, particularly those of Liu and Leung. The film received numerous awards and nominations, including a nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 94th Academy Awards. A sequel is in development, with Cretton set to return as writer and director.

Fun fact: Meng Er Zhang had zero martial arts experience prior to this film. She had no idea she was auditioning for the role of Shang Chi's sister. But she trained hard for months and made a lot of experts think she was a master who had been doing this for years. Bonus fun fact: she went into this movie single. When it wrapped production, she got married. The cast celebrated by taking them all out to karoake. ❤

I don't know why but Shang-Chi imo was one of the better movies in Phase 4, I think it has to do with that even though it is a marvel movie it doesn't feel like a marvel movie kinda like how moon Knight felt which isn't a bad thing.

Outside of Spider-Man, I think Shang-Chi was the best movie of phase 4 and it's really not even close. I think Marvel excels when telling a simple story, with relatable characters. I do disagree on MK, I hated that show, but to each their own lol

I think, everything is coming together. Ten rings are linked with Kamala's bangle. Kamala's bangle was found on the blue skinned person. Carol sad that rings weren't alien technology and Bruce sad it was not Vibranium. And in Wakanda Forever teaser we saw blue skinned Namor's people. I think Black Panther will wrap some things up.

If you didn't recognize him, Guang Bo is played by Yuen Wah. He's known for his role as the Landlord in Kung Fu Hustle. Even fun detail, Shang Chi has a Kung Fu Hustle movie poster if you look carefully on his wall at the beginning. A lot of people were wondering why Kung Fu Hustle was credited in the end credits. But that's why.

I found this a lot more enjoyable than anticipated. The theme was great, the fighting was great and the story was cool. They got creative with the 10 rings. And the "Mandarin" is actually from Iron Man 3 and so is that fire guy. Just a heads up

Ta Lo, where their mother was from, is another dimension within the multiverse outside of our dimension. It's basically the same as the Ancestral Plane (Black Panther), the Underworld (Moon Knight), Vahalla (Thor), the Mirror or Dark dimensions (Doctor Strange), the Noor Dimention, or any of the pocket planes referenced in What If...? They're always present, but just outside of our reality. "Unless it was a base model." Hahahaha! It was a BMW i8, the base price being $135,925 US...so yeah, perhaps a tad pricey. ;)

@@TheSirUno you literally called them basically the same when none of them are at all. Vahalla is literally a warriors heaven. The ancestral plane is literally made up for the movie and has to do with wakandan kings. Actual black Panther after life would be D’Jalia which is still a hell of a lot different than Vahalla. The mirror dimension is literally a completely different thing than both.

It’s beautiful how fighting with the mom is what changed him for awhile when he fell in love with her. Then the mirroring of that when he’s fighting his son is what brings him back to the goodside.

The scene on the outside of the building was really hard for the VFX team. Because of course it's shot on green screen but right next to them is all glass, which means the reflections have to look good in it. Not just reflecting green.

18:38 Im glad you recognized an Extremis soldier. He's from the third Iron Man movie actually. Further fun fact, but the girl named Helen that throws a knife at him is actually a Black Widow from the Red Room. If you look carefully, you can see she has the same Widow emblem that Nat wears. Even better, if you look back at the scene when Nat is about to face that large group of Widows, you can actually see Helen in that group with the bun hairstyle she has here. Same actress and same character credited in both Black Widow and Shang Chi.

I don't think Wenwu was Genghis Khan, just a powerful warlord. I'm pretty sure, Genghis Khan was listed as one of the Sorcerer Supremes, before the Ancient One along with Merlin and other historical and fictitious characters.

I love this movie and Akwafina the actress that plays Katie here is so hillarious,first time I saw her was in Jumanji 2 and she was amazing there as well. Love the martial arts in this one and the special effects are amazing as well. All and all it's a very well done movie.

As the woman I love _is_ deceased, I *know* I would've likely been just like the dad. Especially if I lived in a world full of ancient mysticism, and the woman I loved called to me in that way. I suppose what they could've done to address your concern is have the father acknowledge it could be a trick. . . *Father:* _"If you are right my son, then it will pay for using her memory in this way! But if there is even a chance she is there, we must take it!"_ LOL! I can just see *_Algorithm Jane_* yelling _"Justin! Justin! JUSTIN!"_ at every little thing. 🤣 *Edit:* _Everything Everywhere All at Once_ is one of the best films I've seen in a very long time. Be well. 🙋🏼‍♂️ ··•●✺●•··

FYI the MCU version of Shang-Chi has almost no resemblance to the comics. The comic book character of Shang-Chi was more serious, very similar to Bruce Lee's character in Enter the Dragon, and his storylines/supporting characters were similar to those of 1970s James Bond films.

Mark 26:45. There's a very big difference and legal distinction between, "Premeditated Murder", "Involuntary Manslaughter", "Self-defense, Justifiable Homicide", and "Military Combat". Sure, as "Killing", it may be difficult to discern the differences, even in a, Court of Law, especially if you weren't involved. Prosecutor: "It only takes one well placed bullet to kill. Why did you use more than one?"

27:42 It's such a brief moment in the flashback but it's one of my favorite moments regarding Wenwu's relationship with Yiling. She's actually pranking him on their date. She's teaching him her form of martial arts. Actually, she got him into a classic horse stance. If you listen closely, he asks her in Chinese, "Am I doing it right? Like this??" But she replies with, "Nope. Hey. Eyes forward and stand lower." She tells him this because he almost turned his head and saw that she was trying to hold in her laughter. She's enjoying how ridiculous he looks and is having fun.

I think Jane would enjoy Daredevil, but I think every few minutes she might be yelling, "Justin!" This does get more enjoyable the more I see it, but I will say I still think the 1st half is "better" than the 2nd half. I cannot wait to see how Shang-Gi and Ms. Marvel might connect.

I had briefly heard the name Akwifina before this movie, heard she was some kind of comedian. Seeing her in the trailers I was like "Eh, she doesn't seem to fit in this!" Boy am I glad I was wrong. She balaned him out perfectly and was hilarious!

I loved the relationship between her and Shang-Chi...I'm glad that they didn't force some sort of romantic relationship, and showed that there are lots of ways to love and value the people in your life. They had fantastic chemistry together, I can't wait to see what they get up to in the sequel. It's probably my most anticipated Marvel movie tbh- this movie was so much better than I expected, amazing fights, emotion, gorgeous fantasy elements, it had everything I love.

Shang-Shi killed several Ninja outside in self-defense but he won and blocked his ground trainer and didn't kill him nuance....🤫 Some will say that killing is killing but having the choice to kill or spare the opponent once mastered.. This is where the difference between a hero and a anti-hero.

I think the rings were Kang the conqueror. He is from the future which would explain why the tech is advanced. Kang also time travels and could have lost or hid the rings during the multiversal war. Plus he is the next big bad in the MCU.

Those post credit scenes hits you it's differently after the San Diego Comic-Con announcements people talk about phase 4 being directionless this post credit scene is directly tied to she Hulk, Ms Marvel, The Marvels and more than likely kang. 😳

Just a couple movie suggestions as I watch this lol I’d love to see you two react to 13 Hours (2016) and Lone Survivor (2013), both are war movies. 13 Hours is about a terrorist attack that happened in Benghazi, Libya on 9/11/2012. Lone Survivor is about a Navy SEAL mission gone wrong that took place in Afghanistan 2005.

Ok, it's nerd time. Shang-Chi came out in the comics during the KungFu craze of the 70's. He was shown as trying to take down his father's empire. His father was supposedly Fu Manchu. He traveled the world and mastered every form of Martial arts there was to learn.

1:01:18 You're half right. The alien species related to Fin Fang Foom are called Makluens. However, he never gave it to the Mandarin. He stole the rings from a dead Makluen space ship. Fin Fang Foom was trying to get them back and use them to take over the world

I am a huge Shang chi fan. I loved the different martial arts styles in it, and while some of the scenes and humor are corny that villain and fighting are more than good enough to make up for some corny jokes throughout the movie. There’s also some funny parts too, it’s not all corny
