Nice man. I didn't know the SO3 could handle alum like that.

Thanks for sharing your results. Are you using the DWP611 for your spindle?

Nice! I cut a fair amount of aluminum on my SO2 but it took a lot of upgrades to get decent results. This is by far the most complex part I've seen done on one of these machines. I've cut up to 1/2 inch with good results. Your depth of cut is impressive! Can you remember your RPM and feed rate?

Andrew,I just cut some .25 aluminum ok twice but on the third try I lost some steps as my router jumped to a new location.After stopping I saw some aluminum stuck to the .25 end mill 2 flute Lakeshore bit.My question is are you using WD40 or any lubricant?The first two parts were with a brand new bit. The third attempt to cut on the new bit was when I got some aluminum welded to the bit.Thoughts?

+jb coulter Chip clearing is probably more important than lubrication. Get an air pump or mister.

33K RPM Spindle Speed?
@GFYFPV6 жыл бұрын
How on earth are you hitting 33k rpm on a dewalt? Sounds fishy.

AWESOME!! A few questions. What carbide bits are you using and where'd you get them? What software did you use to create the tool path? Lastly, how are you keeping zero between your manual tool changes?
@andrewdiehl57469 жыл бұрын
+Ed Reed I'm using Lakeshore Carbide 1/4" Solid carbide 2 flute endmills. Tool paths are using Fusion 360. I have homing switches and a conductive Z height probe for zeroing the tools. If you want a kit for adding the probe and homing switches I sell them here: additive-aerospace.myshopify.com/products/shapeoko-3-limit-switch-and-probe-kit

I just ordered my S03 xl and been playing with fusion 360.... no coolant needed to achieve these results? I'll be working with HDPE and delrin mostly but am researching aluminum to larger projects. your work looks great.

He's cheating.. useing the bigger 80mm router 😆

Sorry if this is a noobs question but what is adaptive clearing? Is it a feature on the CAM software?
@nraynaud9 жыл бұрын
+Rodrigo Cardenas yes, it's the way it opens the pocket by little strokes starting at 40seconds.

Awesome! I just got my SO3 today and am pumped. May I ask what the part is for?
@andrewdiehl57469 жыл бұрын
+arkayic111 It's a prototype piece for a 3D Printer.

What collet on your Dewalt DWP611 are you using for the 1/8" lakeshore bit?
@RCGrid8 жыл бұрын
Looks like the precise bits collet

It looks like you have a stock old style z-axis plate. Have you considered upgrading that part? It could help since you're cutting aluminum.
@andrewdiehl57468 жыл бұрын
I've since bolted large aluminum stiffeners to the plate which help.

How do you know the RPM on the Dewalt?
@SuperBubbaO8 жыл бұрын
There's a rough dial on the side, but for more accuracy some use a tachometer to check the actual rpm.

How did you specify Adaptive Clearing in the software!? That is amazing!
@andrewdiehl57467 жыл бұрын
Savant PCs - I was using fusion 360. all the toolpath generation is built in.
@Stephen84547 жыл бұрын
I use the same. I will look into that because it looks like it works so much better that way!
@glennedward22014 жыл бұрын
It’s doing it but at the cost of a terrible finish. Why not just buy a vmc? Even a tormach would be better.

So, why your clip is named "Shapeoko..."?!
@TheBetterRyanKelly7 жыл бұрын
Shapeoko refers to the gantry assembly. This configuration of machine holds an off the shelf router to act as its spindle. its a Shapeoko machine holding a Dewalt router
