Shaq has to be the most likable person, athlete, celebrity ever. Years ago (after Shaq was retired from NBA) one Saturday morning was at the YMCA at my grandson's basketball game. @@TheBrothersstyle No way, Kobe was his best partner in the threepeat. But when he saw Shaq could do more after this, he went too hard on him when he was slacking, he wanted to hold him accountable for the TEAM. So Shaq went off to win one more title in Miami, and later Kobe went to three straight Finals leading the Lakers to two more championships. James Noble Yes, I agree. Usually men are 2 or 3 seconds faster than women in 50 meter swim, and that should be able to make up the difference of jumping off the jump board and a flip turn. And he let Vollmer beat him in the first 50 fly, that showed he just wanted to make it a close race. To reply to Doogry's post, if he jumped off the jump board instead, he should finish in about 21 seconds instead of 24 seconds.

+timlamiam Seriously! It should be like a tournament. Not just 12 people splashing about, you can't tell who's who!

+timlamiam not really. I take it you're not a swimmer? when you race, you need multiple people to race against for competition. what if your opponent backs out or his/her goggles fill with water in the race, or maybe the opponent is a lot slower than the other? then you have no one to race and it would be boring as hell. olympic races with 8-people heats can be just as nerve-wracking and momentous to watch. and +helveeta, there are never 12 people in the water at the same time. 8 is the max, maybe 10 in extreme circumstances. I know that was an exaggeration, but my point is that if you really cared about swimming, you'd understand that its necessary to have 8 people at a time for time reasons and competitive reasons. if you can't be bothered to undergo the simple task of listening to the announcer announce the person's name before they walk out and watch what lane they go to, then perhaps you should watch a different sport? but these are your opinions, and i respect them, but i think that you should take the time to understand swimming before you make a claim like that. if you competitively swam in the past, sure, okay, you know what you're talking about, and i'll think about your point. but as i think this is coming from people who've never competitively swum in their lives, well, it seems slightly ignorant.

Janelle Rudolph Wow, you take yourself really seriously don't you? I think this whole thread was a little tongue in cheek, hon. The video is not a serious race did you realize that?

As someone from a big family of swimmers I can say, effective kick is genetic. The amount of hours some people put into kick drills and it never gets better. I've seen it hundreds of times.
