At our first home In the 80's and 90's Hubby started planting veggies, a blueberry bush and strawberries.. Everbearing sounded perfect. Our 3 young children loved picking ripe strawberries. When weeding around newly sprouting veggies I messed up so I pick when ready to harvest. Everyone including businesses had an artesian well. We never had pest pressure or a failure. Now in new location, no well, downspouts to catch the rain. We're in our 70's. Now we do no dig and easy. Neighbor exchanges fish he caught and shares. Our grandchildren love visiting, touching, picking veggie and smelling the fresh herbs. We always have great stories to entertain them. I talk to my plants too. So much good energy exchange. Loving our garden. No dig in Zone 6b.

Hi everyone. I live in Ontario Canada zone 5b. We took over the garden when my mother-in-law passed into glory December 2019. We started by trying to create sitting areas to get rid of excess weeds and lawn. Those alcoves we surrounded with flowers and bushes. It's a work in progress. Some ideas are just not sustainable as we age. The tiny bulbing flowers tend to scatter seeds into stone walkways and create work so they have to go except for tulips and daffodils. Surprisingly to me it was my husband who suggested a garden because he wanted to grow his own tomatoes. Then the prices started to go up. Well then we just had to add another bed. My first bean trellis was the frame of a mini greenhouse. It was amazingly prolific. So we decided to put a trellis right in the 4x8 bed. Unfortunately it shaded other plants so this past year we dug up more lawn and now have four trellises on the north side of the two beds. We also had someone in to trim the large crab apple tree to allow more light. Last year we also added another pear tree and two dwarf cherry trees. I'm learning how to prune them and now have some scions sitting in the fridge to attach to the pear tree root stock we grew from seed a few years ago. Sorry I seem to have written a book😮. Love gardening and love Green T gardens!

Gardening makes you appreciate the time and effort put in to growing the food we eat. There is so much food wasted. Gardening is also very therapeutic. Something that is uncalculable.

I have my garden because I grew up with them. My grandparents had them as I was growing up and I’d help out in them. Then about 24 years ago my in-laws put a garden in at their place and said I could have a portion of it for my use. I’ve had a garden ever since. I used that garden for a few years until I had a place where I could have my own in the back yard. It just keeps getting bigger every year. I like gardening for the peacefulness, watching everything grow and the satisfaction I get when I harvest. I enjoy giving stuff away to family & friends. I love to cook so also enjoy the fresh vegetables in a variety of recipes. I often just sit outside and just look at the garden. If you’re thinking about starting a garden do it! It doesn’t have to be huge. I started off small and as I got the hang of things and wanted to venture out with more stuff it grew in size.

Except for the family details it feels like I'm reading my own words. I actually started by trying to hide the veggies among the flowers. Even though we have beds now I'm still tempted to do it.

Great video topic. Haven't seen it done before. 👏🏿 I started growing edible plants to be less dependent on overpriced, mass-produced items from companies that put profit over our health. I've since added other types and do it for the endless life lessons & reminders. Almost everything you do in the garden can be applied to personal circumstances and self care (patience, attentiveness, consistency, restarting...). ✌🏿

Love this topic my friend. I started my patio garden 2 years ago out of necessity of the rising cost of produce. I shop once a month and, I got sick and tired of buying produce that would go bad before the end of the month. So I started my garden with a few tomato plants, collard greens and green onions. And it took off from there. I live in a 55+ Senior Community so I have limited space. I didn’t let that stop me so I purchased 2 GreenStalk Vertical Planters. My little patio garden Blesses Me and Sophie weekly with fresh organic veggies that I started from seeds. After each harvest I am Canning and dehydrating some of my harvest. I freeze my Collard Greens so I can enjoy them all year long. Home grown veggies are the BEST when YOU grow them with your own two hands. I say if you haven’t started a garden……what are you waiting for? I agree my friend here, I love to share my veggies with my Elderly neighbors and they appreciate the little tokens of Love🙏🏾💙🙏🏾

That's awesome. I've always wondered about those vertical green stalk planters, whether they're successful or not. Didn't know you could freeze collard greens. Do you cook them first? Love giving the extras away too, especially with the prices going up.

Good Monday Morning@@wendyburston3132 Yeah I was on the fence about those Vertical Planters myself. But now I am a BELIEVER. Yes, I would rather have a garden planted in the ground. I am praying GOD will Bless me and Sophie (my Beagle) with our "Forever Home" with a yard one of these days. Until then, I will keep growing in my GreenStalk. Yes you certainly can freeze Collard Greens. NO I don't cook (or blanch them) first. I harvest them before they get too big, rinse them thoroughly with cold water, dip them in a big bowl full of cold water and a couple splashes of white vinegar. I rinse them again with cold water and lay them out on a papertowel for a few minutes. I put them in quart vacuum seal bags and add 1/2 cup of purified water (in each bag) and seal the bag. The freeze beautifully and when I cook them, I cook them with my Russian Kale. I add a splash of olive oil to my saute' pan. I add caramelize onions, garlic top clippings from my garden and I season them with MY Dehydrated Veggie seasonings. My Collard Greens don't take that long to cook and they turn out super delicious every time........The perfect side dish made with the veggies from my GreenStalk. YES we should continue to share ~ maybe that will inspire OTHERS to start a little garden ~ "Sharing is Caring". Be Blessed Wendy and have a Great Gardening Season. I'm Ms J from Las Vegas, Nevada Zone 9B🙏🏾.

Hello and thank you for your helpful videos. I’ve always loved the outdoors and gardening, unfortunately life just did not allow for it until recently. When I was a child my mother always had wonderful vegetable and flower gardens. My first real attempt was in 2020 during the first year of the pandemic when buying at the grocery store was limited at best. While not a complete success we did enjoy cabbage, lettuce, green beans, black beans, cucumbers and a few ears of corn. We were living in NC at the time and had very sandy soil and a huge problem with biting ants, ouch! We moved to NY in the fall of 2022 making spring 2023 my first attempt in CNY, not a complete success but much better than my garden in NC. Summer squash, winter squash, cucumbers, so many tomatoes that I got very creative with different tomato dishes, green onions, lettuce, spinach and more. My time not only in the garden but in the off season and planning phase gives me such joy!

We tried gardening when our kids were young It was a disaster. After they grew up and KZfaq became a thing, I researched how to do it well, and then went all in with four 10x4 raised beds. To me it's all about the nurturing and being outside. Sure we save a lot, but it's just physically therapeutic for me and my wife both. My wife really appreciates being able to grow Asian veggies that are expensive around here. All winter long, we just dream about planting season. Now, we're going to show the small grand kids how to enjoy it. I agree with you - best thing we ever did together ... besides producing and growing our kids.

I've had a few garden disasters when the kids were growing up. KZfaq has made a huge difference. During the beginning of COVID my husband and I watched a lot of videos. I gravitated towards the homesteading sites and learned quite a bit. I hate being inside as well! Always have.

I love the taste of fresh produce right from my garden. Plus I know what was or more importantly was not sprayed on my food. Yes the startup cost can be high especially if you can’t grow inground, but it pays for itself. Especially with the escalating cost of food. I love to talk to my plants too. 😊

Good morning ☀️. Three years ago I started my garden as a way to deal with stress. I worked as a 911 supervisor. Then Covid hit and I didn’t want to be around people of if I could avoid it. I soon came to realize that I could save myself $$$ by growing my own. I got a different feeling by growing my own. It is amazing to see how such a big plant starts from one seed. Gardening gives me a sense of accomplishment and purpose ❤. We’re moving back to the family homestead so we’ll have a much larger area to grow in. Can’t wait. And if I help and inspire others that a plus

Even though its been a little bit of a DELAYED start, I should be growing this week! Even though it's my first time, I KNOW I'll enjoy this experience.☺️ (Any outdoor tips are appreciated aswell😅)
