The dumbest part is that they disguise Lenny as a dolphin. Dolphins also eat fish, AND they’re sadistic about it. If anything, the fish should be MORE scared of dolphins than sharks.

Imagine if Dreamworks remade the movie today and it was a buddy cop movie where Oscar and Lenny were partners investigating the death of Frankie. Also it was established that nonsapient fish existed and the opening had Oscar and Lenny going out hunting.

To me, Dreamworks movies go through far greater extremes than their rivals at Disney. Their highs are higher, as anyone who has watched Prince of Egypt can attest, but their lows are SO much worse 😅

Probably the worst dreamworks protagonist. They barely give any reason for us to care about Oscar as all his motivations are selfish, but it acts like we should want him to be famous. If they cut out the part where he wastes the money and just have be stolen or something then I would understand his choice considering he was about to die, but he wastes himself and loses any sympathy for what happens next.

Funny thing, I have to hear this movie's cover of "Car Wash" nearly every day at my job at Target. And I know it's the version from this movie because they got Missy Elliott to verbally say it's a "SharkTale Exclusive" at the beginning of the song, which is kept in the single version of the song that plays in the store. 😅

I cannot stress how deeply DreamWorks thought this through. See, Oscar is a bluestreak cleaning wrasse working at a 'whale wash'. There are cleaning stations in reefs where rays and sharks stop by to get cleaned. This movie is fish pun upon fish pun. The lore goes deeper than the Mariana trench.

"I don't know what this movie is even supposed to be about." First world problems, that's what. With a protagonist who's a deadbeat loser, and wants to get rich because he thinks he's too good for his dead-end job. Oscar: "I'm a nobody" 😢 Mr Krabs: "Ohhh booohooo" 🙄 But ,most of all, it's a PG-rated gangster movie, where Jack Black plays a mob boss' gay son, who's also a crossdresser.

I remember when I was younger I used to really like this movie! To the point where we named our fish after Oscar (No joke) Nowadays, I wouldn't say I absolutely hate the movie, but I think of it as a "it's so bad it's good" kind of thing, like user-made GoAnimate grounded videos or Hotel Mario or the Legend of Zelda CDi games.

It's interesting to listen to Comedy Bang Bang when this movie comes up. Scott was a writer for the film and you can just tell how much of a headache it was to make the movie. Compromises had to be made everywhere, and it sounds like no one was satisfied with the end result.
