Not really. Behind the scenes stuff when actors are having fun and just goofing is usually a high point. It’s usually not THE high point. It’s normally just a fun distraction after you watch the movie. So when this movie set the bar that low that the outtakes were the best part... well... we’re really Santa clause 3 the escape clause-ing it up in here.

I can agree the film was just plain terrible. DreamWorks and Disney don't need to copy each other just to be popular. The same goes for other creators out there. It is good just as long you make it original. No more of these obvious clichés. Pixar on the other hand makes good original content. So why does DreamWorks keep making B-movies? Why can't DreamWorks just make more good movies like Shrek and Kung Fu Panda?

The original title for the movie was "Sharkslayer", but it was changed to "Shark Tale" about a year before release, because Jeffrey Katzenberg thought the title might scare families away (the title still appears in some early promotional material). The change is clear in the movie, as in the song before the credits, the singers interlock between calling the movie "Sharkslayer" and "Shark Tale".

“I have ‘Kung Fu Panda’ coming up to here.” You know, the directors of “Shark Tale” told Jack Black that they were going to make “Kung Fu Panda”, so that he can have a movie where his character is the main protagonist. Angelina Jolie was also recast for the film, because they asked him which actor from the previous movie he wanted to be recast along with him.

It’s odd that “Will Smith Fish” reminds me of Osmosis Jones, though Chris Rock voiced him
@SingeScorcher
@SingeScorcher 3 жыл бұрын
Not that odd when you consider the personalities of both characters are extremely similar. Seems like whenever Chris Rock or Will Smith wind up in something animated they're typecast into similar roles. A shame as both are amazingly talented when not being typecast.
@mrcritical6751
@mrcritical6751 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say Osmosis Jones is anything like Oscar, Jones is actually likeable and trying to be a good person because he feels like he’s been wrongfully written off due to the oysters incident (which Jones was totally justified in doing what he did) whilst Oscar just wants to be rich and famous for the sake of feeding his own ego
@SingeScorcher
@SingeScorcher 3 жыл бұрын
@@mrcritical6751 that is completely true. But I would counter argue that they're more similar than you think. They're both fairly high energy and loud, both like to act like they're the coolest guy in the room, and both are impulsive, often running headfirst into situations without thinking. But those similarities highlight why Jones is a better written character than Oscar. Everything you mentioned already makes Jones more likable. And to add to it Jones is a more humble character despite his loud personality. He's at least willing to let someone else outshine him for the greater good (albeit not always liking it) and you do get a sense that while he does care a great deal about his image, doing right comes first. He's also immediate to try and act to fix the messes he causes. Whereas Oscar is a purely selfish character who makes his own messes and then cries about them. Long winded point is, Osmosis Jones is how you make a loud, colorful, somewhat obnoxious character interesting and likable, and Shark Tale is how you make people like literally every character BUT the protagonist.

@@mrcritical6751 There was a hinted on the fact that Oscar could have likable moments. In the movie he looked up to his dad despite his job being a lower-class profession. He was socially scarred by his class for it and it fueled his ego since. There were even moments he hesitated to take Angie's pearl because it meant so much to her and tried to resist betting the money (though was poor on the latter) too bad Oscar isn't the only thing that made this movie not age well.

The characters looked totally fine to me (still do), Will Smith is always a treat (at least back then he was😅), and it was the first animation I saw as a kid (besides the Proud Family) that had alot of familiar black centric music in it. I know it didn't do so well, but this is actually the first time I've ever even heard people were creeped out by it lol.🤣 It's kind of a gem in my childhood.

Will Smith fish slaps Chris Rock zebra at the Oscars! Edit: This Movie Slaps so Hard when I first watched it I HATED it and when I watched it again I have mixed thoughts but there is still dated shit that never aged well for a kids movie in 2004 that really goes into the shitter and when I was watching it again in 2022 this movie slaps as hard as how Will smith slaps Chris Rock in the Face. Even when I watch it a million times it still feels like I’ve been slapped or smacked so hard in my face by the will smith fish.

In his review of the film, The Mysterious Mr. Enter jokingly suggested that *Sykes was fully aware* of Oscar's deception. Because Oscar's get-rich-quick schemes *are the reason* Sykes is in debt to Don Lino to begin with, becoming Oscar's manager and threatening Lino in his name could be *seen as an elaborate revenge plot to make Oscar a target of the sharks.*

@@TheDragonman104 eh I think he does pretty good reviews. He used to be a mediocre critic but has gotten a lot better over the years with reviewing stuff. He seems to know the rules of animation a lot and what works and what doesn't. I don't agree with all of his opinions his reviews are alright. He isn't really that bad, at least not anymore.
