This interview episode's guest Sharon del Adel of Within Temptation speaks about Within Temptation's new song Fool's Parade (feat. Alex Yarmak) and the creative process behind it, the track's meaning and how Within Temptation have found Alex Yarmak with whom they've worked together on Fool's Parade. Sharon also talks about coming to Kyiv, Ukraine (this interview was recorded in Kyiv in 2024) and the responsibility she feels she has when writing new material with Within Temptation.
We also talk about Within Temptation tours opening for Iron Maiden and discuss how passionate Steve Harris is about music and what he does. Sharon also opens up being independent artist and how it has helped Within Temptation with releasing more music and especially singles, their latest studio album Bleed Out and more.

Yes. Saw them with Maiden in Columbus, Ohio during the LOTB tour in 2022. Awesome show. My daughters became huge Within Temptation fans that night, as well as myself.

Like a lot of you I discovered Within Temptation 20 years ago through The Silent Force when I was around 13 or 14 years old. I've been a huge fan of their music and the different dimensions they've explored throughout their different records ever since. As a teenager I was very naive and more concerned about my appearance and other people's opinion than our political issues, the environment, the wars and its injustices that was actually already all around us... but when I first listened to Mother Earth I remember staying cooped up in my room for weeks, learning about climate changes, the conservation of different plants and animals species, the impact we have on all this and what we can do to make things better. That's how they stole my heart and carried it away to an existence more aware of past and present problems and of the importance - as Sharon so aptly put it - of choosing one's battles. Through The Heart of Everything, The Unforgiving, Hydra, Resist and of course Bleed Out, they continued to open my eyes to the reality of the world and the "not always beautiful" society in which we live, without ever falling into pessimism. They're not just a music band to me, they are a pure source of inspiration and bravery. It takes a lot of both for publicly standing in front of the world and pinpoint what's wrong in it. I'll never be able to express how grateful I am to them for changing my life twenty years ago in my little and messy teenage bedroom. Thank you for everything you've done and will do. All my love and support to Ukraine!

Saw Within Temptation live in Stereo Plaza almost a decade ago, and it was the very first rock concert of a foreign band I had ever visited. WT is the reason I have become so into metal, my roommate was a huge fan of the band and I started listening to them, too. All of my memories keep you near.

I saw Within Temptation open for Iron Maiden October 3rd 2022 in Sioux Falls, SD. They blew me away. Im actually wearing my Within Temptation I got at that concert right now 😂

@@MetalPilgrim they were the best opening band I have seen for Maiden. Missed most of Ghosts set when they opened for them, and 3 times it was Steve's sons band The Raven Age. Obviously seeing them out at Power Trip was the best, and I already have Maiden tickets again for next October. Im excited to see who they announce will open for them.

@@Eccles_basement_gymI saw Within Temptation on that tour as well. She seems like a nice person, but just couldn’t get into it. Nice voice but very little stage presence by her and the rest of the band. It was such a different feel from Maiden where Bruce just grabs you and demands attention. Within Temptation just most stood there and seemed boring by comparison, IMO. Maiden has been hit or miss with openers and it seems to be more miss lately. WT and Raven Age were pretty meh. Ghost was pretty good. Alice Cooper was good. Trying to remember the other openers I’ve seen in the US. Good - Motörhead, Dio, Halford, Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Ghost. OK - Clutch, Queensryche, Within Temptation, Raven Age. Bad - Bullet For My Valentine. Really Bad - Lauren Harris (aside from Richie Faulkner on guitar when nobody knew who he was.

@@jerseytiger1980 Not really fair, they're the opener. Watch videos of them from the Worlds Collide Tour from just 2 months later where they're co headlining with Evanescence. Much better presence and stage sets

@@Mxulin I get it for the stage set, being the open it’s limited in scale, but I thought their stage was fine. However, I think the stage presence can be had even on the smallest of stages. They just weren’t very engaging or exciting. Maybe the music just doesn’t lend itself to being active or engaging. Like Ghost (and I’m not really a fan of them) were an opener and they seemed very lively in comparison. I don’t know, something just seemed missing to me. Maybe it was just a bad night.

@@alex_k8944 тому що треба встигнути за темпом мови. Шерон досить швидко говорить. Непрофесійним перекладачам дуже складно підлаштувати синхронізацію перекладу під оригінал. Ну але тут канал про музику, тому вимагати голлівудської якості перекладу не дуже доречно) сам контент дуже класний

I remember when I was a kid I would listen to Ice Queen for weeks on end. Every time I hear anything about Within Temptation, it takes me back to those great days for a moment. But now for me it is not just a magical band that plays very high-quality and original music. Now, these are, first of all, the people who accepted this trouble of ours as their own and held our hands all this time. Exemplary people you want to be like. I have no words to express my gratitude, this support is very inspiring to fight on.

Those who think that musicians shouldn't be political is bullshit. Music has for many years also been very much associated with political, religious and social oppinions and the musicians has every right to express themselfs and what they stand for, no matter if we like it or not. If we don't like it, then we don't listen - that is our choice! Of course not all bands are political, but music is also a way, apart from the creative aspect a way to raise awareness of wrong and right in this world, and many bands has done so. Those who think that WT shouldn't do that are just those who supports Russia I would say, or those who are just sticking their hand in the sand. And Sharon is right - it is a 2 + 2 logic - a country attack another country, and of course you are going to support the country who hadn't done anything at all and not the agresssor. My wife who is Russian (but never lived in Russia under Putin) can figure that out and whole hearted supports Ukraine both in heart and actions through donations just like myself, whenever we can effort to do so. It is not a matter of which country attacks who. It is about opposing war and human caused tragedies and killing of innocent people, and respecting the integrity and independence of an international recoqnised country. Slava Ukraini!
