Sharpay Evans was the constant villain/antagonist throughout the High School Musical series. Nevertheless, she and her twin brother Ryan are (almost unanimously) the most popular characters in the franchise due to their charisma, passion, goofiness, and (at times) audacity. And while the main characters Troy and Gabriella do have relatable struggles that they face, I'm here to argue that Sharpay has the most relatable parts to her character once you sit down and think about it. I most certainly can relate to her and hopefully by the end of this video you'll be able to understand why!

After thinking about it, I should retract my statement of her being a villain in the 3rd movie. Yes, she was being manipulative because of manipulation happening to her (she was a victim in the 3rd movie), but she was still really tame in that movie compared to the first two. So she's not a villain in the 3rd, just an antagonist.

You are not a failure. To quote a Guilty Gear "Life is journey, not a destination". You will have fails in your life but it's natural. Don't be to hard on yourself. Dreams are just that. Dreams. It takes work to make real and then there's the awful truth. Sometimes, you don't win despite working so hard. And that's fine. Life doesn't stop for anyone. Life is like river. It just moves.

I was really expecting yet another essay on why Sharpay's toxic, manipulative personality and her god awful bullying were justified and I'm really glad that you were better than that. I really don't identify with her one bit but I do identify with your video. I love High School Musical for much the same reasons you do, although I always loved Kelsi. I don't know why she managed to stand out to me (since both the fanbase and Disney never seemed to care enough to consider her a main character, *despite the fact that she was clearly more important than Taylor who is on all the covers!!!* ...chrm!) but I just saw myself in this shy, introverted and bullied young artist with no self-esteem who found strength and confidence in her art and the people whose lives it touched. I always wanted to be a writer, but HSM actually made me share work. (A silly HSM fanfiction, fittingly enough.) I get being disappointed with life. I'm in a similar situation, altjough I was certainly never as talented or good in school. Over 30 now and it feels like I haven't really achieved anything. No station of my life has ever just worked out. I'm a kindergarten teacher and I love it but it doesn't seem to love me back. Got fired recently despite me working myself almost into burnout for them. Everything sucks right now. And I'm not getting anywhere with my writing either. I ditched fanfics over a decade ago and wrote my own original stories. Spend years on a draft that just won't work, finally shelved it, tried a different one and hit the same issues. Just didn't feel it anymore. Then I watched High School Musical again... and again and again... and a bit of that old love for my art came back. I remembered what that passion felt like before I ruined it with aspirations. So I went to back to silly little fanfics. In fact, I'm currently writing one that I came up with back in 2006. A retelling of the first HSM from Kelsis perspective. Give her the attention and spotlight she deserves! No one is gonna read it, but I LOVE writing it. I am doing it for me because I love that character and still identify with her so much. I'm not giving up on my dreams of course. I just changed my approach. I am now wondering if I could start a youtube channel and turn my stories into audiobooks. I don't know if there is an audience, but I'd love to try! If life gives you lemons, make apple sauce. Cuz it's already bitter enough. Screw all expectations and timelines and do what feels right to you now. You have a youtube channel where you express yourself the way you want and you have an entire life full of options ahead of you. Embrace the mess! Do cool shit just because! I wish you the best of luck! :)

OMG thank you so much for your little speech/rant. I'm going to be a senior in highschool, and thanks to my education (or lack of) and my mental struggles, my parents never opened college as an option for me, and my training in the arts isn't going well. I'm very behind my peers, and it feels like I haven't improved since 6th grade. I hate the place I live in, I only have a couple friends, and I have trauma that impacts my day to day life. I had so many dreams growing up, and back then I did well in arts, was loved by teachers, and was seen as a promising child. And now that I'm older I'm scared none of my dreams will ever come true, despite how hard I've worked and pushed, the doors just haven't been opening. So not only seeing my favorite character Sharpay going through something similar, but also hearing you relate to feeling stuck, and not where you want to be it makes me feel really comforted and reassured. Thank you so much for being so open and vulnerable, and making me feel less alone 💖 I love your art, and your videos, and I hope God opens some doors for you soon🫶

Firstly, congrats on making it to your final year of high school! That in itself is an achievement because I know high school is a JOURNEY. I'm sorry for the rough road you've been on lately and I'm sorry that life's circumstances and given you such anxiety. But do as much research as you can on how to push into the field you want--and how to get support for college (if college is where you want to go). You have options and God hasn't given up on you! He is your ever present companion and He will be with you every step of the way. Things are uncertain from our perspective and it's hard to see what's next, but I'm rooting for you and I pray God blesses you in every good way. Hearing that story. I could totally relate. I've been trying to make my own magical girl show for 2 years but a lot of things have been holding me back. I had to get the characters, story, designs, and dialogue right. but most importantly, I wanted to have fun with it. 💖💖💖

You’re so real. I’m 14 and practically in the same situation you were in. Everyone wants me to be in medicine of some sort when I want to be a journalist or a movie writer… I practically have perfect grades and excel at my instrument. I don't recall the series verbatim, but while Sharpay was manipulative, I don't recall her ever himiliating people like they did her in HSM3. I always found her ending in the main series so dissatisfying.

I'm 29, and I finished nursing school... i have 2 siblings as well... I have a job that is just paying my stuff and feeling stuck. I know ya won't believe this, but there is something a character said....and it was "For the imperfect tomorrow." It means even if things are not perfect, we should look forward. I don't want Healthcare eather... Damn, this is relatable... I believe you have a lot of anxiety and fear the future... you wish to be a wolf but you might be a turtle. Would you put the turtle on a skateboard? To make it faster? No... that is not how they work. Even I an atheist can say... Everything will be fine. Not perfect as mentioned up... but sometimes to look forward to.

You're not alone. I have always seen myself in you when it came to a lot of aspects, but this one..... i really felt that. I'm 27 and i'm basically in the same situation as you. I'm doing what i can to build a better future for me and my mother. I don't care about being single or about having my mom as my best friend, all i want is to be capable of taking care of us and living my peaceful lifestyle. I can definitely relate to you 💯 (especially your voice is very raw and disappointed) because.. I felt the same way when I was in mid20s. I really thought I was a horrible human being at first but I realize it’s just life that gets you, so it’s okay. But I do want to say-, well first off it sounds like you do have a fine childhood because people you loved sees how you great you are and your talents. As you get older, it’s like you’re not really mentally prepared for the real world (if that makes sense). So I do want to say that you are NOT disappointed or anything, it just that every stage of your life has trial and error. If you feel like you’re a failure, then find a way to cope better and learn it a hard way. At the end of the day, it’s all about growth in life. For me personally, I ain’t got time to look for a romantic relationship or socialize with people because I have my own sh*t to do and need to heal myself. So there’s that. Plus, you shouldn’t be so worry about getting married if you’re not ready yet. Focus on you instead. Anyway, I hope you find yourself in a good place and hoping you look for another job that makes you happy. 😊 ❤

By the way, in my Country we don’t have such thing as middle school and high school in my country there is kindergarten and after that there is one class goes from one to 10 you do not change school you simply study from class one all the way to class 10 for 10 years in the same school

TBH, this hurts. Life hurts every day for everyone, but just because we fall doesn't mean we stay down. God will always make sure that we have support, even if we think we are alone, WE ARE NOT because he is here for Us ❤❤. The plans we make never turn out the same, but maybe God has a way better plan for you in the future. Just hold on and be patient 🙏 😌. There seems to be a fan project attempting to restore Sailor Moon’s original colors The project has gotten a lot of push back from fans who like the pink skin tones which are not the original colors of the characters in the series I’m curious to know your opinion? Sorry but can I correct here? Sharpay isn't a villain. She is a antagonist. There's difference. And also, Sharpay is a misunderstood character. Yeah, she is such a diva at times but that doesn't mean she is horrible. Sharpay may be mean, I do get it but she is still a misunderstood character because almost everyone in the HSM movies never even think twice for her feelings because they're too judgemental towards her, just because they're "victims" or whatever. They're such hypocrites and not even realising they're also bullying her as she bullies them. No point on defend them, they know what they're doing because they think they are playing victims around Sharpay. They can play innocent for all I care but I'm still stating facts about the Gabriella, Troy, Kelsie, Chad, Taylor and many other characters.

I love Sharpay, but she is absolutely a villain in the first 2 movies...admittedly, less so in the 3rd movie, although she was trying to be manipulative...yeah, I guess she wasn't the villain in the 3rd movie. I'll admit my wrong there. But for the first two movies, she's a lower-tier villain and not downright evil, but, to me, what makes her a villain are her intentions. Antagonists who aren't villains don't typically have malicious intentions. Sure, they are against the protagonists, but aren't necessarily trying to hurt them. I'll fully admit that Sharpay was done dirty in the 1st movie and to some degree the 3rd movie considering it doesn't feel fair that some people who had no interest in theater, and who didn't put as many years into training their craft as Sharpay and her brother did, keep taking the spots as the lead roles in the musicals. And I'll also admit that the basketball team and the science/math kids were also villains in the first movie, but that just means in the first movie the only good guys were really Kelsi, Miss Darbis, Troy, and Gabriella. Coach Bolton was an antagonist. But in the first movie, Sharpay gave Gabriella's info to the science/math club without her consent, she lowkey bullied Kelsi, and she changed the date of the callbacks so that the others would have a chance to perform. She was actively sabotaging everyone, which is pretty villainous. HSM 2 has her at her peak villainous with her actively trying to make Troy's friends and Gabriella miserable by giving them more work, less break time, making it easier for them to get fired, not allowing them to perform in the talent show, and trying to break up Troy and Gabriella. Her intentions were fully to hurt people so she could have what she wanted. That's a villain. Yes, she was helping Troy reach his dream, but she was only doing that to make him her boyfriend. Yes, Troy's friends overreacted a bit to what was going on with him and didn't support the things that were happening for his future, but Sharpay was absolutely in the wrong as well. She eventually came to her senses by the end, but she still acted as the villain up until that point. So, again, I love Sharpay. She's my favorite character in HSM, and I appreciate her character arc, and I find so much of what happened to her to be unfair, but in my eyes, she was one of the villains in the first movie, and the main villain in the second.
