So in this video I’m going to give you some tips and tricks on removing your 2.4 four-cylinder engine out of your Chevy equinox or GMC Terrain. Through the top without removing the engine cradle .Even though this is not a nut and bolt video we are going to give you some super tips and probably teach you something that you did not know. This information should be useful on the 2010 to 2018 Chevy equinox and GMC Terrain

THANK YOU for making these quick and dirty videos. Sometimes we don’t need a full nut and bolt, just the general idea on what to take off and do to get it out. Pulling a 2015 2.4 out for a rear main due to that super awesome PVC deal.

I have to raise the engine on a 2011 Terrain 2.4l just enough so that I can get an easy out drill bit to that bolt that holds the intake sprocket housing in place. Thank you for this video

Got it done myself ,took me approx 14 hrs but went at it 2 -3 hrs at a time, found it helpful to remove exhaust manifold upon installation to clear the cowl and forward rad support plastic cover (which i took a piece out of, but since glued it back in position)thanks a note on the hidden bolt to engine/transmission, i took off rf wheel assembly and came in with about 5 ft of extension and a flex socket!!thanks again ,Roger

wish i would have watched this before i tore into this beast. i pulled the front cowl off thought i would need to pull it with a trans. ran into alot of stuborn plugs. thanks for the video. hD to pull the axles cause i could notget to the bell bolts or brackets.

I have a chevy equinox 2014 2.4 engine has 140k i remove the intake manifold and I put a new 1 and also valcover gasket and I put oil cah cant you think that goint to prevent to the real maintenance seal blow? My engine doesn't burn to much oil and also I bay a oil cap for crankcase ventilating what you think?

i Have a friend with a 2015 gmc terrain that needs engine replace, was first estimated $1500, then later mechanic add another $800 dollars, because he said he needed to remove the entire front bumper, struts and other parts. But in your video you did not do that??

The exhaust manifolds crack because theyre attached to the cat solid and it is also attched solid below, the exhaust needs to be able to flex and move some

You get that yellow gunk stuff due to short trips in cold weather.if the orifise is plugged the rear seal breaks.

I have the motor in and running. Sounds and runs good till I shut it off and restart it. Give me a p011 advance timing code. Checked everything timing good and 3 vvvts still no fixed

Well, that’s probably because the timing is actually Advanced more than likely the cam phaser itself on the end of the Cam is actually Advanced because it’s not working correctly

Hi there, I’m looking to do a v6 swap on my terrain (I currently have the 4cyl) and wanted to know if the motor mounts are in the same spots for both engines. Just trying to get a feel for how much fabrication I’ve got ahead of me lol

Did you do this job? I was contemplating dropping a beefed up V6 model in mine, and double turboing it. I am also curious to know how hard the swap will be in terms of fabrication. If you did complete this job, or have information, please get back to me.

...it would be cheaper to get a complete engine cradle with an engine and transmission from a salvaged vehicle... you would probably need a new ECM/PCM unit 🤔

Do you have to remove the passenger side drive axle on a 2011 equinox AWD to get to those hidden tranny bolts? Thanks man awesome upload I’m using this a removal model for what I’m doing

No, there’s one bolt that’s really kind of a stickler to get to but I don’t remember exactly how you do it. But they all come out without removing the axle.

UPDATE: I did end up having to remove the passenger side drive axle over that one bolt I absolutely could not get to

Yeah, sorry to hear that but at least you could see what you need to do I suppose. That is the one bolt for some reason I can’t ever remember how to tell people to do it and it was so hard to see in the video when Frank was doing it. I do appreciate the other kind words very much. ... they have different wiring harnesses, plus the ECM would have trouble, or it would not recognize the V6 engine. You would have to replace the engine computer also. 🤔

How long does it take to replace an engine in an 2011 GMC Terrain? And the engine they are putting in is used but they found how it was cracked so they are fixing it. So how long does that process take?

All of that depends upon how busy the shop is. The work theoretically only takes a couple days but I don’t know what kind of situations they’re dealing with so it’s very hard to tell I’m sorry to hear you’re going through that issue I’m assuming that it’s taking a long time.

@@Howlingwolf601 I recently had my 2012 2.4l engine replaced and it ran me about $5,000 for a remanufactured engine with a lifetime warranty, my transmission has been shifting rough though so I'm going to top off the atf since it just got changed with the engine

I seen Al do it, on the v6 And it’s a similar procedure on the Chevy traverse / GMC Acadia we take them out from the top all the time without removing the transmission. So I know it’s possible

I just picked up a 2010 terrain awd v6 for super cheap but needs a motor, mechanic told me it wasn’t possible to take the engine out through the top, so does he just not know what he’s saying? Is it possible in mine?

Totally intended to make one of them videos about a year and a half two years ago. I actually shot all of the video then I lost it it really sucked….. and haven’t done one since

@@sharpcarco man I just finished rebuilding the engine on a 2011 Chevy Equinox 2.4 LAF(laugh) AWD and I have a sensor driving me nuts that I can’t find, i had an engine light on, changed plugs and couple other things, the light went off then i drove it for about 3 hrs no yellow light of death or anything it ran really smooth, then all of a sudden the stabilitrak came on, engine light started flashing, the skid warning light came on, threw about 40 some codes when I checked it all the way from a p0300 misfire to where it said my parents were never married, I don’t know what in the world it’s doing.

I have a 2011 gmc terrain in my garage with a very good body, tires, interior etc… but the engine is shot. I was putting oil in the vehicle every two week until the timing chain went bad. Without an engine doesn’t matter how good it looks. I was told that it’s impossible to get a good 2.4 liter engine. They will still burn oil, timing chain shaving in engine, bad solenoids etc… is that true?

? 2.4 13 equinox running a vent oil cap now because it’s got 170000 miles on it I install it because crankshaft front start to leak at seal install new seal this week is good idea to run vent oil fill cap this vehicle never had recall it use 1/2qt 2000 miles

Well I think you mean to say bolts, You remove the starter and then you can get access to the torque converter bolts

Yes, meant bolts but in the video you say remove starter to gain access to rear torque converter bolts. In wondering where the front torque converter bolts are located?

@@MrTexasflood... when someone says rear, they're usually referring to the "Rear", aka back end of the engine. All the bolts to the torque converter are then accessible on the Flex plate that the torque converter is attached to, once the starter is removed. Those are the only bolts on the Torque converter, the ones that secure the converter to the Flex plate.
