The business of bodybuilding seems like an interesting case. It really does seem like it was better for the bodybuilders back when the Weiders had their empire going full steam. The Weiders were making so much money on magazines and products they could afford to pay guys enough to live so lavishly like Shawn used to.

@@borgullet3376 thanks for the motivation! Lockdown deff messed me up too man. Gained a ton of weight and picked up a few bad habits. We have about 10 weeks before the end of the year. Just go hard as hell and on New Year’s Eve you can be like “look how much I accomplished!” Anyways hang in there!

I think the only person you can really compare yourself to is you, you should never train with the goal of beating someone but train with the goal to be in a better position the next time around…coz if that person you compare yourslf to ,always comes around more ripped than you you’ll be disappointed in yoursld every single encounter Mike mentzer once talked about this comparison thing

Yes, guys had contracts with the magazines, would do signing events and make 10-20K per session, and compete in a lot more shows like the post Olympia Grand Prix circuit

He had a contract with Weider they guaranteed him 100,000 a year this is back in the 90s. Plus supplement endorsements he did work with ESPN is one of the few that made a lot of money.

no, only a select few had the money Dorian Yates because he won everything he ever competed in and lived off of prize money as he was THAT successful and a person or two like Ray who were smart about utilizing their physique and image This guy contacted sponsors and was sending magazines free pictures of himself for them to use for advertisement in order to get his name out there. Didn't go out on tours in Europe, instead he was guest posing constantly. No need to diet or anything, just show up with whatever you look like at that given moment, get a couple of grand for quick 15-20 minutes...repeat.
