You have to be quiet and still and wait for them to peek out, or catch one with dirt actively being moved around. They hide if they hear you coming.

Get a cat if you're patient, get a German shorthair pointer that digs if you want to see the whole gopher family in a day. The trenches mine dug are, no joke, 43' on the surface though. I don't have a yard anymore.

This is a bit embarrassing but I'm going to tell on myself. I'm in my early 60's and have heard about Gophers my entire life, but not too long ago I realized I didn't really know what they were (could have googled them but it wasn't that important). As far as furry burrowing critters go I know what Marmots (ground hogs), Rabbits/Hares, Prairie Dogs, Moles, Mole Rats, Shrews and ground Squirrels are, but didn't have a clue as to Gophers, have never actually seen one till today.

The gopher has had enough by the end! Interesting to see your type of gopher and how they dig. Here our "gophers" are Richardson's Ground Squirrels, they are much longer and would not fit in that trap. They are also a lot meaner and would have bit you long before yours got scrappy!

This gofer is much nicer than ones I’ve encountered here in central California. I put leather welding gloves on to pick one up and take away from the yard the other day and it almost bit all the way through. Had one actually chase me and bite onto my boot completely unprovoked. Fun times.

For one of my college classes, we trapped Plains pocket gophers. We trapped over 2 nights with 50+ traps. I think we got 7 total. They’re super hard to trap; they’re very particular and spook easily. Great video!!

This was a really nice video, I enjoyed the length and amount of material in this video. You previewed the golfer, showed how you caught it, displayed its abilities in your custom farm, and then released it. I think it's hard to come up with new and lengthy ideas all the time but I definitely like this. If I may give my two cents in, I don't appreciate as much the showing the pet mice falling for a trap in your usual trap displays

naw, my dog works better at that than our 3 cats. Out of the three cats, only 1 goes outside, but is too old to catch anything. The other 2 don't care to catch anything ever. But our carolina dog mix sure does love to catch anything that digs in the yard, she has even caught and killed Rats that were pilfering from our garden all summer long. She doesn't care to eat them thankfully, just enjoys the hunt. She also tries to hunt bees.... she still hasn't learned her lesson unlike other beekeepers have told me she eventually would. 2 years on and she still can't help herself.

thing with cat is, they have to be raised to do it from a young age to be consistent. It's a hard thing to do. You basically have to get them very young and not get them used to being fed at all. They need to ''hunt''. I've seen some real hunters on farms where I lived as a kid but, to be honest, the farmers mostly just welcomed stray cats on their land as they made the best hunters!

@@fredlaroche6969 I have spayed and neutered cats on my farm who have a feeder always full of cat food and they are excellent mousers. You do not have to starve a cat to get it to mouse, but it is best to get a cat from a bloodline of cats who are good mousers.

Very interesting ! I did the same thing with an aquarium & gerbils. They make tunnels too. To bad the dirt & gerbil waste smells pretty bad after a week or so. Love watching your channel, you have very interesting & useful tips + trap ideas. ( PS. I was a kid when I had the gerbils )
