This may be one of the most beautiful songs ever sung and the video (with Alan's real life wife) is perfection. Lex's real and vulnerable reaction is so spot on. I've said this on another similar channel that I'm a 59 year old white man and channels like yours are doing more to bring people together than anything else I can think of. I believe there are many groups in our country and in the world that are intentionally trying to tear us apart by race, gender, and age. I can't thank you enough for your channel and what you do.

As a German who fell in love with US country music about 20 years ago this is something I noticed very often: People in the US say things like „I usually don‘t listen to country but this was good“ or „I never thought a country song could make me cry“ and similar statements. Why do people in the US tend to disregard country music so much? You have such a great genre there with so many treasures to discover. Keep searching for more, you‘ll find a lot more to enjoy.

Sad part is today's country music is hardly anything like this song, it's more pop music than country.

Oh I think that is just the folks that are not Country Fans normally…it’s like there is almost a disbelief from themselves when they like a Country song vs. say Pop music. 90s Country to me was my favorite time in Country…but I still love the genre and have noticed a shift with more artists getting back to that 90s style.
@Gutslinger
@Gutslinger 2 жыл бұрын
Part of the reason is because modern "country" music isn't the same. Another reason is that there's a cultural stereotype/prejudice against it. Nearly all things "country" gets portrayed badly in media most of the time.
@pleutron
@pleutron 2 жыл бұрын
it's just my opinion, but i think it's because Country Music has the assumed stigma of being for poor dumb white people. Same as how for years Rap had the stigma of being for poor black thugs. Every genre has a perception of its type of fans. Thats why so many love YT reactors who are reacting to genres that is not of what "we" normally think of people. Same with non-music. You are German. Many, at least in the US, have the longstanding perception that all Germans are racist and/or nazi sympathizers.

Alan Jackson, 62, said he has been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease . It is a neuropathy and neurological disease.It has affected his ability to move and keep balance. That was his wife and kids in the video. His 3 daughters are much older now. His older daughter lost her husband a few years ago. He died from a traumatic head injury when he fell from a dock while helping a woman onto a boat in 2018. A couple more great songs is "Sissy's Song" and "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning".

When this song first came out, it was touching, but didn't have much of a resonance to me at the time. When my dad died back in December, that is when it hit me like a ton of bricks. My mom and dad met at my grandfather's funeral, where she spilled coffee on his lap, and that was the start of a brilliant and dedicated life. They dated for 8 years, and when I was on the way in 1975, they decided to get married, since they had been together anyways, it was the next logical step. They married June 14, 1975, I was born November 9, 1975, and soon my brother came in 1978, and my sister in 79. My dad worked his ass off for the State of Michigan, working from 11pm till about 8am, sleeping from 9am to 1 or 2pm, and being up and awake to be around us kids. So he sacrificed so many hours of solid sleep just to take care of all 5 of us. He was always there for us, made sure we always had what we needed, and sacrificed of himself without complaint for so many years to keep our family well. He loved my mom, no one that dates one person for 8 years, and was married to one person for 46 years does so because they don't love each other. It was a truly beautiful thing! So when my dad died, it hit us all hard, and it still does. My mom has early stage Alzheimer's and is losing her hearing, so not only do I look after her, but I'm not the man of the house and struggling to do as good as he did with all the responsibilities, the bills, the little and major problems that come up. When I hear this song, as well as many others (Conway Twitty's "That's My Job" absolutely devastates me), I can't help but get a little moist from it. Perhaps there is a rain cloud above my head, something in my eye, or I accidentally pulled a nose hair or something. To sum it up, this song is about the beauty, the tragedy, and the miracle of life, and my folks lived a very loving and sweet life that I aspire to have for myself, since they are my examples of what a married couple should be. I might not be in a relationship, I'm quite single, but their example is what I'd want if I was in one. Sadly, people these days aren't wired for the long-haul like them.

The reason Allan Jackson is a type 5 American songwriter all time is this paragraph: Remember when old ones died and new were born And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged We came together, fell apart And broke each other's hearts Remember when It says so much, that everyone can relate to now, or will relate to if they live long enough, while also saying so little.

Lexy, my darling. Be happy. You have discovered that life and love is always as you hoped it would be. While young girls dream of love and long life, it is only us older men who realize, after it has passed, that it is that which we also sought and are grateful we've been blessed to enjoy as have I. That and that alone is what Country music is about: Life. We're born and, hopefully, are cherished, live a little while; find love of our own; raise a family; grow old; and, eventually die with our children and grandchildren praying for our souls. That's all there truly is...for any of us. You can't take money, power and fame with you when you go. There are happy times in life too. That's why there dance songs like those in Cajun and Tejano music and much more. Also there are songs to appreciate mother, father, home, patriotism, morality and heroism in order to teach us those values as Americans. The Heartland, where the Heart of America's moral heart lies, is represented in these songs. Please listen to them and appreciate them. It is your home. Like visiting the kitchen of your grandmother, there is wonder, beauty, sorrow and pride to be gained. God bless you all.

@@bryanknutson1666 I wasn’t gonna go into detail, but am a survivor of a double lung transplant, due to fibrosis caused by an autoimmune disease, for almost two years now and doing okay, but my left lung is not functioning yet due to a nerve connection that was accidental cut during surgery. We think it might be growing back as breathing tests are getting better, however grateful to be alive and listening to music with these two characters! If you make it to five years, there’s a good chance you will make it to 10 years, which was my original point. Take care of your lungs, as oxygen is quite vital, and have a blessed day! My goal,is 20 years!

This song I bet is especially touching right now to Alan Jackson himself as his first grandchild was recently born.

This song hits me too Lex. We played this at my Mom's funeral. She had Alzheimer's and he watched her dye in Hospice over a 2 month period. My dad was in Vietnam in the 101st and every airborne unit in the Army over his 24 year career as a medic in Nam and a hospital Ward Sergeant later. He balled and That was only the 2nd time I had ever seen him cry. At his funeral we played He Stopped Loving Her Today by George Jones. We thought it was fitting. Keep up the good work.

Say him for the 3rd time Friday night in Biloxi. Awesome concert you want be disappointed. I saw him first in Biloxi back in 1991. It’s a great thing to grow old listening to such an awesome singer. Guess I can say we grew old together. Great family man, Great singer, but also a Christian.

I had such a horrific childhood and the rest hasn't been too good either. But I found someone and she truly loves me even though I'm such a broken person. I say that only to add this, I can't get past the first 10 seconds of this beautiful song without drowning in tears.

He was raised not far from me. Always been so proud of him. Very talented and Good Man. His wife was a Stewardess for Delta and she gave Glenn Campbell one of his tapes to listen too. That's how he got his break.

If this song doesn't stir emotions inside of you,then sadly you're already dead inside! We call it a fiddle 🎻 in the south. That solo was from a steel guitar. It's a stringed instrument that looks like an organ that's played with guitar picks in a horizontal position.

Charlie Daniels played the fiddle; this was a violin. It's all about the sound coming out of it.

@@MatthewC137 thank you. Was just coming to say exactly that. And many of us in the south know the distinct difference. Also, that's not a steel guitar, it's a mandolin.
