In today's video I chat to Leena Norms all about her experience trying to turn her London flat into a haven for the minimalist, the sustainable, the zero waste beginner. She talks through zero waste swaps she hates, many that she loves and plenty of book recommendations on climate change for you all. It's a long one so I hope you enjoy this style of video from me!

I am SO excited for this video! I hope you enjoy it too. It's a little podcast style so please feel free to put us on while you do other things and hopefully learn some interesting things about books we recommend on climate change, which swaps are harder than others and which just work! Can't wait to get your feedback on this style of video!!

So I finally read (well listened to) We Are the Weather because Leena has recommended it several times and it really felt to me that I wasn’t the intended audience. I’m a 27 yo vegan who is already panicking about climate change. We are the weather felt more geared towards my parents or gen x, people who know climate change is real but don’t really know what action to take. As someone who went vegan for ethical reasons but understand the environmental impact eating less meat has the book wasn’t all that helpful. It’s still beautifully written! And I thought he did a really good job writing about empathy for humanity. I also thought his description of the future if we do only meet the Paris accord goals was still frightening but very realist. I would give we are the weather 3.5 stars because I wasn’t the intended audience as I’m already making changes in my life, panicking, and don’t eat meat. But it might be the perfect book for some else and I’m trying to figure out who in my life to give it to.

I really appreciate you mentioning your investing. For my family, we religiously are not allowed to invest in defense, banks, etc etc. While halal index funds still include some stocks that may include companies that aren’t meat friendly or whatnot - might be worth looking into :)

I'm surprised that Leena didn't mention "All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis" and think she might like it! It's a collection of writings and art, all by women, and there's a great diversity in their backgrounds and experiences and expertise. I'm not done with it yet, but it also seems to focus on what is currently being done and what's possible, so it seems more hopeful than most climate books:) I acually found out about it because I follow the artist who made illustrations for it on Instagram, lol

I spent 5 years using a moon cup and I hate myself for it. I switched to a sea & flo cup. My god the difference in comfort. Moon cup never leaked and did the job but getting it in and out was a bit "eesh" small shock every time when it unfolded once inserted. Plus the sea & flo cup is black which is much nicer cause if you know you know. Softer cups are much more user friendly.

Writing on a second hand iPhone xe from Cex. Love it, and paid a fraction of the cost that they were new, despite being a recent launch. Husband buys iPhones second hand too - think he has a X/10 at the moment. Maybe it’s a gamble, but we’re both on our second second-hand phones and the first ones lasted a few years. These ones going strong over a year later.

@@PhiliH88 did you buy them from Trade More? What about secondhand laptops or desktops? I am (hopefully) not going to need a new laptop for a while, but I would like to have a desktop, at some point. I want to be more eco-friendly with my tech purchases, but I am wary about buying a computer from a thrift store, so if there is a way I can guarantee it's condition, that would be great.

If second hand tech is maybe going a bit too far for you, try checking out refurbished options. Everyone in my family tries to get refurbished laptops, because they can be cheaper and just as good. They usually also come with a warranty in case something goes wrong.

I love the talk about wolves! Only I'd like to point out that wolves will have different effects depending on the current ecosystem. Where I live, wolves have just started to comw back (central Germany) and the deer population actually goes down rather than up, but this is a good thing because they eat all the tree saplings and younf leaves from young trees which then die off and the forests then don't have enough 'youngsters' to take the place of died old trees. Also, the deer are getting into everyone's gardens. The hunters aren't happy however because there are less deer to shoot. Sheep owners aren't happy either because wolves are nifty and clever and can work their was under wolf-proof fences and even persuade sheep dogs to kill the sheep they were supposed to portect. You see, wolves are a political nightmare

Not aimed at me, but I have. I like it but mostly for eyeliner and brows. As mascara, it is more subtle and lengthening. It doesnt have the staying power of regular mascara. Thats my hot takes.
