I work at a Target and we only throw the real garbage out in the compactor. I rarely see anything useful or that could be repurposed thrown in there. The rest is either salvaged (for goodwill) or recycled. It would be nice if Target was a dumpster diving spot, but at least this way the stuff is getting a second life.
@ezd10235 жыл бұрын
We Donate and Salvage product at my store. We are remodeling right now and they are keeping track of everything. We are still having theft, product getting broken, etc. But mostly it gets donated or salvage to Goodwill/Salvation Army stores. Sometimes repriced higher than the original price, lol.

Hate the way stores like Buy Buy Baby is destroying things with paint. We have that some stores are destroying food items with chlorine or other chemicals. In Denmark the weather is about 5 degrees Celsius so we can dumpster dive food like meat, fruit and vegetables, and other things. I a period of 3 months I did save about 8 hundred to a thousand dollars. In the summertime I never dumpster dive because of the warm weather.

I have 3 salt lamps :) they leak/weep when they are turned off for long periods of time creating a lil pool of salt around the base. They are meant to be on all the time but a lot of people don’t know that so they may be returning them thinking they are faulty and it’s not common knowledge to leave them on (power killer!) so shopkeepers may even think they are faulty too.

Salt lamps will produce moisture because of the humidity. If the area is dry it won't happen.
@sandyboone84135 жыл бұрын
Hey Steph and Seven!! Hope you are all doing well!! Those Himalayan Salt lamps draw moisture to them. I had a candle holder from my sister. They draw moisture out of the air. I thought my roof was leaking so I moved it thinking it was getting ruined by the leak. I cleaned up the mess, and the next time I was in my shop there was still water all over my table. I put a bowl under it and found the bowl full of water when I came back out. They actually Draw the moisture out of the air to them.

The humidity in the air reacts to the salt, so they weep. I have to keep a plastic dish under mine because you end up with a salt ring on the table and the wooden base looks like it is corroding but it isn't, its just the salt like in winter-but you wouldn't likely remember that! lol

@StevenSteph Be careful with the Himalayan Salt Lamps, There is a recall on some of them. The one I had got so hot it melted the plastic on the inner part and started to stink, Thankfully I was home to catch it and unplug it before it caused a fire.
@Crapbag975 жыл бұрын
I have Several Himalayan Salt Lamps... Where Do Yours Have Plastic In The Inside? All Of Mine Only Have Plastic On The Outter Part Where You Screw The LightBulb In (The Outter Part That Holds The LightBulb Is The Only Part That Is Plastic On Mine) & I Leave Mine On 24/7 / 365 ...Mine Have Never Melted Or Started On Fire ... But I Use Very Low Wattage LightBulbs ....I Know There Was A Recall On Some Brands In The Last Couple Of Years & Using Too High Of A Wattage Of LightBulb Can Cause Them To Malfunction
@annblueann5 жыл бұрын
@@Crapbag97 It was the plastic housing where you screw the bulb in and put inside the salt that got super hot and started to melt. I was using the bulb it came with. After it cooled off and I took it out to look at it the plastic was brittle and some of it crumbled in my hand. :(
@addicted3675 жыл бұрын
Do you think I could use a recalled one if I use a lower watt light bulb?
@Crapbag975 жыл бұрын
@@annblueann To Me That Doesn't Sound Like It Was Melted It It Was Brittle And Crumbled In Your Hand ....That Sounds Like The Plastic Part Got a Crack In It And Broke ....If It Melted The Plastic , You Would Smelt Burning Plastic & You Would Have Seen Where It Melted The Plastic .... The First Day I Got One Of My Lamps ...I Set It Down A LiL Too Hard On The Decorative Plate , I Always Place My Salt Lamps On & I Broke That Plastic Ring In Half , I Have Bee Using It For Years Without It , With No Problems
@Crapbag975 жыл бұрын
@@addicted367 FIRST OF ALL , PLEASE REMEMBER I'M A STRANGER ON THE INTERNET , I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL .... SO PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION, I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING TO HAPPEN TO YOU ... I'M ASKING YOU ....DOES ANY PART OF YOU FEEL UNEASY OR UNSAFE WITH USING THE LAMP WITH A VERY LOW WATTAGE BULB IN IT ? DID YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOUR LAMP WHILE YOU WERE USING IT BEFORE YOU FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL ? WOULD THE CORD GET HOT ? COULD YOU SMELL ANY SMELL COMING FROM IT WHILE IT WAS ON ? IF YOU SAID YES TO ANY OF THOSE QUESTIONS I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND USING IT !!!! You Could Try Using The Lowest Wattage Bulb You Can Find That Fits In Your Lamp For A Couple Of Hours, BUT ONLY IF YOU FEEL SAFE ( BUT DO NOT LEAVE IT ON 24/7 & IF YOU ARE NOT HOME) CHECK THE CORD & IF IT FEELS HOT & OR IF YOU SMELL ANYTHING , PUT OVEN MITTS ON & UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL RIGHT AWAY !!!! & I Would Sit It On A Glass Heat Safe Plate , 1 That You Can Use The Microwave & In Oven (You Can Find Ones With Pretty Designs/Patterns On Them Or Solid Colored Ones You Like To Match Your Decor, At Any Dollar Store Or Second Hand Store (Those Are The Places I Get My Plates That I Use To Set My Salt Lamps On) & I Use The Lowest Wattage Of Bulb That Fits In My Lamp ... I Use The Little Frosted Bulbs That Fit Into Night Lights , They Are 7 Watts ...Or You Also Have The Option To Get A New Light Cord With A Switch ,To Put In Your Lamp You Can Get Them Off Of Amazon For Less Than $10.00 ...If That Makes You Feel Safer Using It 😊 Or You Can Battery Operated White Soft Glow LED Fairy Lights (You Can Get Those At Dollar Stores) .... Buy 3 Or 4 Of Strings Of Those ( Maybe Even 2 - Depending On How Big The Strings Of Lights Are & How Big Your Lamp Is) & Push Them Inside The Hole In The Bottom Of The Lamp ....Again That's Another Option 😊......BUT AGAIN ONLY USE THE LOWEST WATTAGE LIGHT BULB IF YOU FEEL SAFE ....I WOULD FEEL SO BAD IF YOU USED ONE, BECAUSE I USE THEM & SOMETHING HAPPENED ...YOU BEING SAFE IS MORE IMPORTANT !!!!!!

I think some of the newer, sealed, in working condition items have been " tossed" by employees looking to retrieve the item(s) later on. I worked for one retailer for 17 years. In all those years, I never knew of new items being " tossed" by mistake. Now the Salt Lamps " weeping" or having broken lightbulbs is a different matter

There is an outside door to the big compactors. Every style is in a different place. They are there in case of something jamming in it. The opening is before the goods are squished. You just have to find it. Most are not locked because they leave them on ling enough to take everything in , but sometimes if person is impatient they don't leave it on long enough and dome of the stuff is right where the door is. It is a smallish door
