He gave her a standing ovation but when the host went to him for his comments he literally couldn’t speak. When he gathered himself he just said ‘that was spectacular’ & then went on to say that she took the role of a virtuoso in that performance. He was so impressed with sohyang that she has joined him many times on stage when he’s performed in the east ( he is massive in that part of the world which is why that episode of the show was called ‘the songs of Michael Bolton’ & as sohyang did, all participants had to perform a Michael Bolton song). I am sure that if he had the opportunity , he would take her around the world with him to show off her talent, but she’s a real homebird & if world domination was her aim then she would have done that years ago, she’s certainly talented enough, but as you continue your sohyang journey, a journey that you won’t ever want to end, and you learn more about her life story & what drives her, you will come to understand why she doesn’t do things & doesn’t take a route that you would think most people with her talent would probably die for). Anyhow, there are video’s of them performing together as well as her performance of the ‘other’ lean on me that she did with Kirk Franklin. This woman has more soul & more gospel in her than most, even those in the Deep South of America. If you want someone to take you to church, Sohyang is your girl. I am sure that you will have had comments from some amazing Sohyang fans who have taken the time to create a comprehensive list of Sohyang performances, along with the best links so pls, I advise you work from those lists. Finally, I would just like to say that never be put off a Sohyang performance because you’ve heard her lots because trust me, this woman never disappoints, she never gets boring & I bet if you re-watched the performances of her you’ve already seen, you will still feel the same excitement etc that you felt the 1st time, it’s bonkers, I don’t know how she does it. Even if you don’t do reactions to all her performances, I would highly recommend that you see them just for yourself, you will be missing out on so much ‘magic’ if you don’t. Sohyang most times has her orchestra behind her. She has said they practiced together over 100 times for these contest songs. Which is what Immortal Songs is a celerity singing contest each with a theme. This one was the Michael Bolton Special and all the artists invited onto the show remixed either one of his own songs or popular covers, this one is a cover. Sohyang loves Michael Bolton and was nervous to do well, and she certainly did that. There are a few fan cams of Sohyang singing with MB while he was in Korea. "The prayer" is one of those and well worth watching. Being fan cam the quality isn't that of a show but it's still amazing. Pretty sure it was one of her dreams come true to sing for and with him.

The other side of So Hyang's coin are the songs 'Misty' (old jazz standard, best from the Begin Again Concert) and 'Higher' (acoustic version, her own song), where she does not belt but still displays her incredible control and crystal clear voice. The Kpop market is currently one of the world's largest online music reading markets. Sohyang has the best vocal skills and is called a textbook vocalist in the Kpop market. Since her 20s, Sohyang has been receiving contract offers from large K-pop agencies, Sony Music USA etc. Sohyang received contract offers not only from major record labels/agencies, but also from Boyz II Men producer, B.B.King agent, and Golden Williams, who discovered Beyoncé etc. She was also praised for her vocal skills by Seth Riggs, who is considered the father of living vocalists and has produced more than 120 Grammy Award-winning students. David Foster tried several times to contact Sohyang to perform a concert with him, and Michael Bolton also suggested that Sohyang go on a world tour with him. Sohyang had many opportunities to become a global superstar. But she didn't choose to pursue only her money and greedy success. She politely declined numerous good contract offers. Because, in her opinion, becoming entangled in a contract with big agencies means she will no longer be free. Fun fact about this episode. The mc/host at the beginning of the show told the audience that the most beloved singer by Koreans from the US is Michael Bolton so they did this show in the honor of him. Seven singers were invited and each of them covererd one of Michael Bolton songs or his covers. So Hyang won this episode and Michael Bolton invited So Hyang to finish out his tour with him in Korea. They became good friends. So Hyang also won a international artist award in a Canadian Award show soon after the show aired for this performance. Sohyang has said in an interview that this 2014 performance before Michael Bolton was the most pleasing to her personally up to that point in her career because Michael Bolton is one of her absolutely favourite singers, and because he was so effusive in his praise for her she was satisfied that she and her team could produce similarly world class songs and performances. And hey, Michael Bolton told her she was a vocal "virtuoso" after the concert and invited her to join him for the rest of his South Korean tour. How do you beat that? Well, Michael Bolton can offer to take you on an entirely new world tour making you the featured guest--and that is _exactly_ what he did! Unfortunately, or not, the two could not make their schedules match no matter how hard they tried and the tour never materialized. This was actually fairly depressing for Sohyang because she really wanted to go BIG TIME in the music business at that exact moment but everything seemed to conspire against her. Pneumonia problems would crop up and this has been a chronic problem for Sohyang. She would later recognize this as God's way of preventing her from getting caught up in the North American and European music industry that would have been destructive to her character at that time. Sohyang is humble enough and courageous enough to confess she had become so ambitious that she was an ugly person, short tempered with other people and not treating them with proper respect. I know, my jaw hit the floor when I read the interview too! Sohyang a _mean person?_ Say it ain't so! But we all have times where we are embarrassed at how we behaved and Sohyang is just a human being, like the rest of us. Two years later in 2016 Sohyang was almost ready to quit the entire music business because her health problems were so bad. Yet she had given her truly immortal performances of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Arirang Alone," "Everyone" and "I Have Nothing" only the previous year in 2015, and "The Prayer" and "Power Of Love" in 2014--songs _any_ diva who has ever walked the earth would _kill_ to have in their repertoire! So she plundered her bank account and took a trip to New York and Philadelphia. In the latter city Sohyang saw a quote from President Franklin Roosevelt where he had said in his inaugural address during the Great Depression of the 1930s that "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." This proved so inspirational for her that when she got back to South Korea she entered the "King of the Masked Singers" contest in 2017 and won it on six consecutive occasions! Still the pneumonia dogged her so badly she knew it was God's way of telling her she had to reassess why she had become a singer in the first place. And that was to sing to lift people's spirits who were going through hard times. In 2018 David Foster himself did eight concerts with her at Tokyo's Blue Note Club and it is thought he offered to be the producer for new recordings of her. But she had been really reconsidering her purpose in life and decided the Hollywood lifestyle was the last thing she truly wanted, and in 2020 she turned down a contract offer from Sony Music US, _the 2nd largest music corporation in the world!_ And there were many others before that going back a decade or so! Since then Sohyang has been resolute in her decision to stay away from the music "industry" and manage her own career for the purposes she had started it all with. Just a bit of info because I know people are gonna be recommending you see her performance of ‘ I have nothing’ from the DMC festival. I am not absoloutly sure whether it was someone who worked in Whitney Houston’s camp or someone who was working for Oprah Winfrey, but it was one of them, but this person saw this particular performance of ‘I have nothing’ by sohyang at the DMC festival & showed the video to Oprah, who in turn showed it to David Foster, who actually wrote the song for Whitney. On see this performance he went out to Korea to meet her etc & there is a video clip of him telling another host on a show how he’s found this amazing singer in Korea. Sohyang could’ve taken the opportunity then to return with him & make it big in the west but true to herself, she stayed in Korea doing the things she wanted to do at her own pace, which are also the main reasons that she’d previously turned down all the major record companies that already knew about her. This lady nearly died of cancer in her early 20’s so she probably thinks differently to the majority of us when deciding what to do with her life.
