I would think people would be willing to pay a little more to have old hoses replaced while doing those gaskets. My daughter got charged way too much money from two dealerships for hardly doing anything to her car probably because it was a '99. One dealerships even called her and said they couldn't get it started.. The car was good because after I replaced the water pump it made it from Utah to Arizona when it was 118 degrees there. Another local shop said they would replace the whole cooling system. That means they didn't even check to see if the water pump had a leak. It didn't because I checked it when I got there. It's hard to find a good mechanic willing to work on old cars so good for you.

Simple rules to follow especially for older cars. If i have to remove it, and it has a gasket, it gets a new gasket. If its older or e85 car, warn the owner of plastic and rubber parts becoming very brittle, cracking, or disintigrated, due to the corn mixture in the fuel and or age. Those parts may need to be replaced due to just touching them will destroy them no matter how gentle or careful you are with them. So the cost may become higher due to these issues and to prepare for this. This also includes wireing repairs especially with cars that use wireing made of soy oil.

Yeah on a 20-year-old car taking off the intake manifold requires mandatory gasket replacement otherwise you're going to have a high idle when you put everything back together. Got to pull off the intake manifold to get to the valve covers so it's part of the job 💪🏽

I don't remove the inlet manifold in my car unless I intend on replacing the inlet manifold seals prior to refitting the Inlet manifold. They go flat like that on the Chevrolet LS1 V8 engines & I will only use a Fel - Pro (Federal Mogul) seal kit because I have bought some cheaper lits which were crap because the seals jus split despite me torquing up the inlet manifold to GM specification. In my car I had to replace the Knock sensor & Knock sensor wiring harness 5 years ago meaning that the inlet manifold has to come off to replace them !

You should have one of those pop-up tents in your boxvan, to have dry place to work when raining or snowing, and shade in summertime. All those gasgets and so, tell customer what is needed for all of the job, if not, its cheeper, but you have them all to do it at one go. And you can return unopened things to seller? Here in Finland its called "reilu meininki" fair play, its closest translation of it. And it goes both ways.

the topic of when to replace gaskets you werent going in to replace gets pretty complicated especially when you are doing work for a customer. its easy to just say 'if you have it apart replace the gasket' but they add up fast so youre potentially charging the customer for something they dont need. in addition there the chance the old gasket will work just fine but is so cooked on that replacing it can cause damage.

Hello I love your content. I Got A question how would you take a rounded off spark plug out a 2.4 jeep
@DanielSan-ch7dr
@DanielSan-ch7dr 4 ай бұрын
Alot of difficulty. You may have to a rounded socket tool if have enough room or next step is breaking out the centre porclean drilling out the middle and using the tapped and reverse thread spark plug tool. Anyone that has done the plugs on a triton 3valve ford engine I believe they always had issues breaking a plug. Get car engine red hot before attempting and maybe squirter some pentrene or similar down the hole let it soak overnight a few times after driving. If the plug still works leave it the hell alone and don't open up a can of problems. I was going to check the plugs on a car i was fixing and they were so tight I couldn't move them with ratchet or breaker bar I said I'm not touching them until they're a problem.

Yikes, stocking/using screw clamps instead of spring clamps? Also, although you don't want to aim the parts cannon at the vehicle, replacing questionable hoses and gaskets are far less expensive than labor--especially comebacks. On the customer side, the cost of a rental car for a day, would be several times the cost of incidental hoses and gaskets. Certainly, there is a fuzzy line between a repair and preventive maintenance (PM). Here's a personal story. Back in 2004, a shop did extensive work on my '65 Chevrolet C-10, a truck I inherited from my father. When I picked the truck up, the service manager mentioned that he saved me some money, finding some used/salvage valve covers. I must have had half-dozen comebacks for leaking oil. You've probably guess the source of the leaks.
@johnnyq1233
@johnnyq1233 Ай бұрын
If you came to the conclusion that it needed the valve cover gaskets done, then most likely the intake gaskets are done as well. Hoses are cracking and breaking, that gasket from the valve covers is brittle to the touch. It all depends on if you have to touch the intake. If you do, then replace that gasket and save yourself a headache from a vacuum leak.

2006 Odyssey same situation. Turned out to be starter. To determine, pull small wire off starter solenoid and see if it gets battery voltage when you hit the key. If it gets the power, it is the starter. If not go for fuses and/or starter relay. Starter failure does not always give you any warning. In my case I was 60 miles from home and had to get Odyssey towed home with unhappy wife.

Why did you not run a smoke test to identify the leaks? Then you could have created a plan and saved some time.

Hello ! The gaskets of the spark plug wells of my hyndai getz 1.4 engine were loose when new and the oil got on the spark plugs. I solved the problem like this, I made the seal seats on the valve chamber free of oil and before installing it I lubricated with sealant, I let it dry for 20 hours before starting the engine. Before installing the valve chamber cover, wipe the tubes of the candle wells clean and make the round seals slightly slippery with oil with your finger. Then there will be no more oil leaks after installation.
