周迅虽不是科班出身，确是难得的天才演员。可以把如懿三十年的心路历程演绎得如此饱满，细腻，有层次，有温度。她在剧中的很多片段都让人印象深刻，非常欣赏她在断发后的表演状态，只能用精准二字来形容。得知自己时日无多，她淡定坚毅的眼神中竟带着一丝笑意，还有最后见皇帝时的坦然，无爱无恨亦无怨，一切随风而逝。曾经有很多质疑的声音，为什么不选年轻演员，而要让四十三岁的周迅来饰演如懿。看完全剧后终于懂了，这么厚重的角色只有周迅才能驾驭。

She is at the end of her life, treated unfairly by the man she once loved, yet still doing everything in her might to protect the harem and the royal heir/esses. A true Empress.

You can see Ruyi's dead eyes when they took the seal etc from her. She does not care what the emperor does to her anymore, it is all dead. Love that scene.

Zhou Xun is a great actress. Ruyi, cutting her hair was a symbol of empowerment and liberation against a controller and abusive husband. Her love for the emperor died when she couldn't find anything to admire 💔 on him anymore. It was his own doing.

The scene where the royal physician tells Ruyi without medicine she's dying is heartbreaking and the soundtrack just adds to the scene.

She had been driven to the point where her love for him did not balance out the sheer terror, hopelessness, personal losses of people she loved, and his sheer insult to her as a Human Being caused with being his Empress. Her disassociation from him was his doing, no one else’s. From the beginning, it was she who had to make sacrifices to continue near him, and for all his saying he would take care of her, he never did when it counted.

看着这三个人真诚地彼此对待，看着容佩从忍着不哭到泣不成声，真的被这一幕感动许久 唉，这种真情，人间难得几回见啊 弘曆离开时，如懿在他身影即将离去时，深情地行了屈膝礼，那是她最后一次克尽在后宫身为人妻的职责，从此，她就不再受到这身份的羁绊了。

I love how there are many people in the Forbidden City that loved her, respected truly. But the one that was to cherish her the most, was blinded by ignorance.

I LOVE her method of just cutting things out of her life, for good. First her hair/marriage and then her portrait.👏🏻👏🏻👍🏼

Their last meeting together and he still wants Ruyi to accompany him and to take back her scroll and treasure. Again they act together so well. Ruyi is always graceful and softly spoken every inch an Empress.

I feel that not only was she talking about their marriage being over , she went along the lines " By the time you come back, I will have withered like the flower in the story". I think she made an indirect reference to her death.

只能說如懿在1開始入畫所跟畫家談話就能知道她的觀念及對待的情感方式，都是貼向現代女性的思維 無奈生在古代。

Honestly I loved her acting - it's as if the step Empress really came alive 😸

Zhou Xun was made for this role. She made the whole thing incredible.

I belive at her last hour of life she was free from her love for the king. Her heart was free. She was a great and strong empress, women and wife. At the end the king can't destroy her pure heart despite his cruelty.

Another scene that tears at the heart strings. the acting again from all of them is amazing and the relationship between Ruyi and Rongpei is excellent they play their parts so well. Fantastic drama to watch.

It broke my heart that she is dying and fight to live to prove her innocence. She is all alone with her loyal maid. Everything was taken away from her by the ruthless emperor. She will be free at last soon. What a sad ending for her. She and her best friend Lady Hai are the best among the women in the palace.

I love how she cut herself out of the picture. It's like damn I want no memories of even the past. I'm want nothing from you ever again.

11:36 YAAASSSSSS!!!!!!! You can also see her unspoken anger with her face and that dropping of scissors. When I first watched this I'm so hooked and watched it again and again till now. 😁👍

I prefer Asian actors and actresses better than the American. Asians don’t have to take off their clothes or show skin to convey a message. Their facial expression and subtle moves can bring you to a much greater understanding. This cast is one of the best. It’s my 4 time to watch it.

The camera shot at 3:56 is so clever: the whole room is seen but to the left is an empty seat where Empress sat counseling and listening to the harem women frequently, solving problems, resolving conflicts, rewarding some, disciplining others, celebrating still others, dutifully fulfilling a requirement of her position as Empress neither of which she ever aspired to or wanted: she didn't want to rule the harem and she didn't want to be Empress, she only wanted to love and be loved by one man who didn't deserve her and definitely wasn't worthy of her. The empty seat in clear, bright light, empty room, dark wood, devoid of beautiful women, stupendous fabrics and embroidery, jewelry, hair adornments, female voices - all gone like her scroll and treasure and now includes her love and respect for a man who mistreated her, mistrusted her, accused her falsely, punished her unjustly, ignored her and blamed her for his own shortcomings. Conversely, the right side of the room is lit but hazy, three true friends connected by heart, respect, honor, integrity and dignity sharing a moment that needs no words for their tears speak for them. Both servants are kneeling before the deposed Empress, still respecting her signifying their loyalty to her regardless of the Emperor's treatment of her. Behind just Ruyi, you see a very dark wall with just a bit of candelabra light reflecting off the lattice scrolling in the archway wall, metaphorically indicating her light was extinguished by the Emperor's latest disregard for her as well as her failing health: that her life light is fading into darkness and within those few months, will be permanently extinguished. That single camera shot is extraordinary. Also the way she plops the scissors down after cutting herself out of their wedding photo: that sound of 'finality'. While I don't think she hated him because she was incapable of hating anyone, as she reminded her son one day that everyone is human, everyone deserves to live as best they can, I do think she had been pushed over the edge of being able to continue loving him because to love, one must respect, trust, believe in, and honor and he had treated her as nothing more than a pathologically jealous, physically, verbally, and mentally abusive husband who also had the power to unjustly punish her and no one, under pain of execution, would dare to challenge or question his decisions. That Empress Dowager fed his ego, fueled his false accusations of her 'trysts' and 'affairs' with Ling Yunche, did not want him to choose her as Empress or even have her in the harem all served to help her get her own revenge on Ruyi and her late aunt whom the ED loathed. In Ruyi's case, the sins of the aunt were paid for by the niece in all ways. The Emperor treated Ruyi worse than any other woman in the harem for as long as she was there: he was an abuser who refused to become a better man, father and husband because in his own twisted way, he considered himself a god and therefore he believed he had no shortcomings and never did or said anything wrong. He promised her when they were very young he would always love, protect and take care of her and at every turn, beginning the moment he became emperor, he did everything to her but those things. In her final days, she took matters into her own hands leaving not-so-discreet messages for him to find when he returned from the hunt: she had already cut her hair, then she cut their wedding photo/painting erasing her from him in that regard, and made sure she burned it so no artist could repair it to stroke his ego when he found out, she wrote a final letter to her son and not a single word to the Emperor about anything-no love letter or poem, no accusatory or scolding or indignant words, no excuses but more importantly, no explanations about anything: she was making it very clear that she was erasing herself from his life, his 'story' of his reign and reclaiming her freedom and her peace. He gave her nothing, took everything from her that ever mattered to her including friends and loyal servants, and in the end, he attempted to disgrace and dishonor her again by not giving her a posthumous name, title or even a marked grave. He intended to obliterate her from history but she beat him to the punch showing, once again, she was always 2 steps ahead of him. By cutting her hair, cutting the painting, not accepting his sick, twisted bribe of scroll and treasure back were all significant little pieces of history that the palace gossip mongers would keep alive forever. But by checking out of the central palace and life on her own terms, she maintained her grace, humility, dignity and integrity.

I feel like she ended up hating her husband, the emperor. She has so many reasons to do so. When she burns her picture, there was anger in her eyes. She is really upset and angry with him. I was like she didn't want to leave any trace of her to be remembered, so the emperor could not play the role of a devoted husband who loved her till the end, as he did with the Fuca empress.

The best revenge of her was when she cut her picture with the Emperor..I still crying when I am rewatching the end of this series😞

This drama is one of my all time favs. Everything about is top notch. ❤❤❤❤
