Nice video. In my experience with succulents in general, you should allow leaves and cuttings to sit out in the air for a few days before planting. This allows for the cut end to scab over and helps them not to rot. When I've tried planting right away, I get up to 50% loss due to rot.

Q: I recently bought a very similar looking succulent (I don’t know the name), and it’s definitely become “leggy”. I will try this, but my question is, is it going to make a significant difference if my only light source is a huge - East facing window? I have about 70 plants all kinda crammed in front of this window (it’s 20’ across), and they’re all doing magnificently. And they’re all sorts, but this is my first succulent. I know they like lots of indirect light, but will east facing be enough? I thought maybe that was why it’s become leggy.

@KateInTheCity

@@wipqueen715 Succulents do become leggy because of not enough light. If you noticed your succulent becoming leggy after placing it in front of the window, then it is just not enough light for it. I personally keep my succulents under an artificial light because my windows don't get enough to make them happy. If you are thinking about adding some lights to your plants, don't bother with buying grow lights- just get some full spectrum (daylight) LED lights. So much cheaper and work well!

Great video, I would love to see how they turned out. Mine get super leggy and weird but that's why we like them. One experiment I tried was removing one or two leaves from near the top. Not to replant. I wanted to see if a new plant would branch and it did. I love the symmetry of them but also the random weirdness of how they grow. I get to grow them outdoors in my climate so I don't know how it would work in Sheffield or other climate not native to them. All kudos to you for your videos. They are a great help.

It would stop oils from your hands getting on the leaves actually 👍

This pot is way too small to repot a succulent of that size. Go up a size from its original pot. You can leave leaves to air propagate as well to avoid rot. Beautiful succa though 😊

I use an old teaspoon to flatten the earth around plants like that. I have fat fingers. :)

I need to do this to my one succulent but I am terrified of hurting or killing him. I am absolutely emotionally attached to the little guy (his name is Cadbury) and if I hurt him, I would never forgive myself. 😭

It will recover. New leaves come and the old ones die off eventually.
