It was super helpfull to see the progression on the growth. Makes it a little less scary to cut it back that much. Thanks for putting in the time and effort.

dont forget to tell everyone that they LOVE direct sun! This makes their color more brilliant. At first, I thought it was a protective mechanism like the jade; however, I noticed with both the red and purple wandering jew, the color will go bright pink/red when exposed to direct sun and the plant grows thicker in the stems and seems happier!

Direct sun with some caution 😅
@HiddenRefuge

They're not typically sun-thriving plants, as they grow on the forest bottom; their leaves are delicate and too much direct sunlight will scorch them. That said, having them out in the sun for a while during the day can be beneficial and if you'll do, make sure it won't be in the prolonged periods of afternoon. My south-facing window gets sun from late morning till noon and my plants seem to love it. I would definitely avoid having them out in the sun for many hours, though.

Not direct sun but as much bright indirect you can give. Brightest spot but the plant shouldn't be able to "see" the sun

Not all tradescantia like direct sun. The ones you mention do though. I have the purple heart in direct Texas sun, and they grow like mad. Also when the sun gets stronger in Spring and Summer, they get a lot brighter and very beautiful 😊

I just got this plant today and the first that I did was a KZfaq search. I was elated to see one of the top results associated to your channel. Thanks to this video I learned about pruning and how to have more dense growth. Will give this a try.

This video really helped me alot. I have a Tradescantia that I got from cuttings, and after watching this video I am now going to attempt to trim back to get some cuttings to repot. I will be following the directions in this video, and keeping my fingers crossed with the hope of not killing it. UPDATE: Ok, I took cuttings from the mother plant, and planted them back into the pot to hopefully get it to become bushier. I really hope this works.

I have the gold wing variety and it almost died. I cut it all up and put it in water and in just over a month, it’s now 3 times bigger. I can’t grow this plant in dirt, but I’m extremely successful with it in water.

Thank you so much! This is information I needed. I'm grateful you detailed (and showed) that we need to cut ABOVE a leaf to prune it and BELOW the node to propagate it! This always confused me (where exactly to cut for each purpose) Question: My wandering "dude" is EXTREMELY long (1 ft) compared to yours. Can I cut it in a few pieces to propagate if I take care to ensure the top is still the top and cutting below a node? Thanks 😊

this is the same plant that I told you about that got the mealy bugs! I was able to save a total of 1/4th of it because the leaves HATE being wet. I have decided to use a systemic from now on. May I ask though, would you suggest allowing this plant to climb a moss pole?
@SheffieldMadePlants
@SheffieldMadePlants Жыл бұрын
This plant is more of a creeper than a climber so I wouldn't recommend a moss pole

How many stems do you initially put in the pot to start? I received cuttings initially and my plant just got leggy and not attractive so I keep cutting it back and replanting with the same problem happening. Would be super helpful to see a start to finish video on propagating and planting a bushy tradescantia. Thanks!

@@SheffieldMadePlants I don't have any idea. It should be more bushier just like your plant but no, it become ugly once I cut them. I might be cutting it wrong.
