After much skepticism and reluctance I have started to bottom water my plants. Every video you put out promotes this and I finally gave in.... and WOW. I should have heeded to your great tip ages ago. Fungus gnats are a fraction of what they were plus my plants are so much better. And it does make sense as roots are promoted to grow downwards (as in nature). This promotes stronger roots and happier plants. Thank you so much !! Keep on insisting on bottom watering as it truly is a plant saver. It took me some 30 of your great videos to convert..lol.. The learning curve is so much faster than I imagined

The zebrina is the only tradescantia that has survived my care. I ffind them difficult for some reason. The zebrina was literally down to one node(no leaf) in her first 6 months with me and somehow came roaring back so she's earned enough respect for me to keep her around. We have a love-hate relationship.

I think the problem is that I can't keep up with how often I have to propogate to fill in the bare area at the base. She grows so quickly year round.

It would be interesting to see an experiment where you try growing one up those clear "moss" poles filled with compost or coco coir etc and see if it holds its leaves since it can root into it, great video.

I have my zebrina outside getting full sun and it has gone absolutely insane!! Used to live inside and was barely growing but outside in the sun it is getting so large and bushy I have had to trim it twice in the last 4 months alone! Also getting flowers like mad! Would never have done this but after given the advice from a reliable grower in my local area (gotten advice from her on several plants but zebrinas are her specialty) and she said to put in the sun and it has become a main eye catcher in my garden!

Thank you so much for this video! I picked up a small pot with 3 cuttings and planted all 3 in my mourning gecko enclosure. I have volcanic soil (bio/fluval stratum) in it and I didn't know if it was just the soil or if this is the normal growth rate for zebrina. I'm thrilled to know they're easy to propagate, it's only been a few months and they're hitting the top of the enclosure now and bending so I'm going to trim them soon and add it to my crested gecko enclosure. Such a stunning plant, I had no idea there were so many varieties!😍

Zebrina is difficult to care, so fussy, this is my 3rd time at it (had 2 previously, that i had to return to the plant nursery, they give a year's warranty) even though I let it dry out before watering, to prevent over saturation (i have lots of succulents, Some love water, others dont) * I handled the plant with care, but the leaves started yellowing & then turn brown & crispy 😑, now the whole thing is thinning out (many people on KZfaq blog about such experience) so i dont understand how ya'll comment that it's easy to care for. Because of the mixed messages I'm getting from the plant i dont know what to do with it. 🤔🙄

I just don’t understand why these or any plants cannot tolerate water dropping on leaves. A friend of mine has one mixed into an outdoor summer plant with flowers etc and she waters it regularly with a watering can as well as rain coming down on it. It also receives direct sunlight. Hers looks great and mine had rotting at the base of the plant by the dirt. It’s very scraggly looking and hers is so full.😊

I have chopped at the soil level, got rid of the pot and soil, and am treating with alcohol solution with dish soap and water. HOWEVER, how can I be sure that they are all gone? There are sooo many leaves and stems to check and I am afraid I will miss one and reintroduce the plant to my collection. Its in isolation now and as I said before, I have propagated the entire plant. Can you offer me any advice on this? I have had her for so long and I do not want to lose any of the plant. How is it that many people say not to get the leaves wet? They do get wet in their natural habitat, no? I rinse the leaves of my pallida, cerinthoides, mundula, fluminensis, albiflora, zebrina and the Callisia gentlei weekly and don’t experience the rotting leaves. Could the rot be caused by wet leaves and not enough air circulation? When I rinse the leaves, I make sure to shake them a bit to remove any excess water (don’t want too much water dripping on the floor and furniture) and put them back in place. But I do provide good circulation. I combine showering the plants with my daily chores and open all doors/windows (doesn’t matter the season).
@SheffieldMadePlants
@SheffieldMadePlants Жыл бұрын
The rotting because wet issue seems to affect my Nanouk more than anything. This plant really doesn't seem to like humidity. It is probably to do with air circulation. In my experience Trads don't tend to like having water droplets on the leaves for too long. Nice collection by the way.

The cuttings rooted super fast in soil, but the plant never started to trail. I repotted it a couple of weeks ago and the stems have started growing/looking like they want to start vining, but the leaves just die before any real growth happens. Brand new leaves are dying within days. I'm so bummed, hoping someone has had this issue before.
