Blink and you will miss it! This video has 1 frame with a painted body in it! But I can't tell you where it is!
OK, so this is a video where I answer two top questions I have received in the comments to my other videos - how long did it take us to build this Factory Five Cobra replica, and what is our experience and skills level. You'll be surprised :) Let me know what you think!
PS Our Cobra is almost ready! Full reveal soon!

I spent more than 1000 hours on mine. At least half of that was me staring at the parts figuring out what to actually DO. 🤔

Didn't the manual tell you what to do? I think it's over 400 pages!

How organized are the boxes of parts? Is everything boxed consistent with what you’d use in the build process if you are following the step by step instructions? Or is it all boxed together randomly?
@BradThePitts
@BradThePitts 10 ай бұрын
@@BKMDano17he manual at the time was much smaller and had lots and lots of mistakes in it. It also had a lot of writing and not a lot of photos. For example, "attach control arm to spindle." There was no picture of a control arm or a spindle so we can be confusing for a beginner. The internet forums were also not as well archived. I was also one of the first 100 or so to get the MK3 kit and there were still some things to work out.
@BradThePitts
@BradThePitts 10 ай бұрын
@@RecoveringUGrad At the time, Factory 5 boasted that the boxes were numbered in order of assembly, for example, the carpet kit was in the very last box. Unfortunately, there have historically almost always been back orders, so this messes up your schedule. Almost everyone has experienced going ahead a few steps, only to realize something is in the way and you have to do some things over.

Great video! I have a very similar build to you with a 347 from BPE, power steering, RT drop trunk etc. Just installed the body this week after finishing the cockpit and go karting. I agree about the drilling and riveting. That takes quite a bit of time but was very therapeutic to me.

Great work guy's, here in the UK i live near a company called DJ Sports Cars ( most people know them DAX ) and would often see some of the cars parked outside the building and have always loved the Cobra.

It doesn't take too long if you have all the parts in your garage, I built mine from design in clay, then in fiberglass, the seats, the chassis, the panels, the suspension, and it takes us more than a year, and even we didn't finish yet. but would be funny when you have all the parts in your garage ;)

Alex: Thank you for taking time to post this video. I am about 1/2 way finished with a Daytona Coupe; I have a go-kart. Next task is to install the body. I agree that the FF manual is a good starting point, but there are a lot of things that are left to the builder to figure out. Lots of frustrations, but lots of good memories of working with friends to get this project to the finish line. After a 4 month winter break with no work being performed on the project, I'll look forward to starting the body work come April 24. My target finish date is July '24.

What a wonderful thing to do with your family, including your wife! She is an exceptional lady for not only suggesting that you build your Cobra, but for supporting you and your son throughout the build. So is the Daytona Coupe for your son, Alex Jr.? I also watched your cost to build video. I thought it was going run $52-$55k.....oops. Finally, the car looks and sounds great, and it's refreshing to hear that both you and your son can actually shift a manual transmission. That's a skill that eludes the vast majority of US drivers. 😉👌😊

It wasn’t, no. You do an enhanced inspection, a mechanic signs off on the build - and then the paperwork is filed for a “specialty constructed vehicle”. That’s it.

Here in August 2021...the comment about driving on public roads before completion and it being illegal struck me as kind of funny. Our Democrat politicians have literally completely disregarded all laws for the last 18 - 24 months, even the SCOTUS has completely disregarded the law. Therefore, The Law(tm) should no longer be a consideration in anything we do. Do what you want. Nice build guys! The car is awesome. I look forward to the 80% AR build videos!
