Listen to some of the new additions to my collection of 78 rpm records, in this a new episode of the Shellac Stacks. Jazz and dance band music from the 1920s is featured; including Charles Dornberger, Phil Napoleon, Paul Whiteman, Bix Beiderbecke, Bing Crosby, and more! Hope you enjoy this wonderful music from the jazz age. Thank you for watching!

Thanks! Yes...the 20s (and 30s) were fantastic. I love bot decades - the music, the movies, the cars, the clothes. If only time travel was possible. Thanks for watching and commenting! Skol, Jeff

I believe The Rhythm Boys ended up with Gus Arnheim, at the Cocoanut Grove in L.A. after their time with Whiteman came to an end. Great group. They may have influenced the Boswell Sisters, who were great also.

This was fun - I think you should definitely keep making them. I could imagine you hosting a late night radio show. Clarinet Marmalade sounds a bit like a psychedelic song, haha. Cheers, John.

Hey, John! Marmalade does have a bit of a psych sound, doesn't it? I love that record; both sides are fantastic! Thanks for watching and commenting. Greatly appreciated. Would love to see/hear more of your 78 collection. Skol! Jeff

Loved this Jeff. Even some of the more worn 78s sounded fantastic. Some real gems for sure, and when you played Bing I couldnt help but smile. What a wonderful voice he had. Love the format of playing the whole song and a little banter in between, had a very informative and flowing format. Keep em coming sir! Hope you and yours are well!

Hey, Tim! I and the family are doing well. Like you and yours, my wife and I are still employed and working from home. So, that is a huge blessing. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Loved your Bing comment. He definitely was amazing. The more I listen to his recordings and learn more about him, the more a appreciate and enjoy his records. Appreciate the feedback on the video format and content. I really had fun making it and will try to do more of them. While I have the time. Thanks again! Skol! Jeff

Loved this Jeff and hope you do this more and more often. :-) It was great to hear Paul Whiteman as I've been watching the Ken Burns PBS series. You are right, more dance than Jazz. :-) Good to see you and yeah, no notices from YT... everything was safe to play! Hope you're well & safe brother!

Hey, Brad! Doing well here. How are you? How's everything in Orlando, these days? Our public library here just started doing curbside pick-ups/check outs. So that's cool. Limited only to what's in our library, though. No outside library loans yet. I had fun making the video, and will definitely try to make more. Glad you enjoyed it. The Ken Burns series is fantastic! Some have criticized him (and Wynton Marsalis) for focusing so much on Armstrong and the African-American aspects of jazz history; ignoring many of the early white jazz bands and painting Whiteman, the ODJB and others in a negative light. Maybe...regardless, it's a fantastic series. Enjoy it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Much appreciated. Skol! Jeff

@@ToneInGrooves Tone In Grooves Just listening through in detail here, I am really enjoying the show, you are a natural presenter. Bix was on clarinet though and Paul Whiteman is brilliant but always thought the King of Jazz title a bit over the top... But hey... The opening number was just great!! Bix and Bing a great combination. That last 78 is just amazing... Well done I listen as I went round the shed... More defo more of these please, a radio station that does cool Jazz defo more...

Fantastic Jeff! Really enjoyed this. You have a natural radio DJ voice and presentation. The second Paul Whiteman song I think was my favorite of this batch. Although Clarinet Marmalade was pretty fun too. How many 78s are in your collection now? I'd definitely love you to keep doing these if you find the time to do so. Take care. -Bill

Wow, Bill! Thanks so much! I had fun doing it and will definitely try doing more of these. Right around 1,400 78s in the collection right now. With hundreds more that I've culled and haven't gotten rid of yet. Sitting in boxes in the basement. So many records, so little space. Luckily my wife is gracious. :) Do you have any 78s in your collection? I'm always curious to know if other vinyl collectors pick up 78s as well. Often seems like the Vinyl and shellac worlds are completely separate from each other. Thanks for watching and commenting. Really appreciate it. Skol, Jeff

Tone In Grooves hey Jeff, I haven’t wanted to go down the 78 rabbit hole because I know I’d get sucked in. I have one modern 78. The Beach Boys Good Vibrations. It was a VCLT. I think it came out for the 2014 Record Store Day. So it’s not shellac but vinyl. Maybe someday I’ll start the 78 journey. In the meantime I’ll be catching your sessions. 😀
