The whole token - prize - pawn shop thing actually exists in Japan. It's a loophole that exists to get around gambling laws and is used in basically every pachinko parlour. Government turns a blind eye to it because of the revenue it brings.

Seems to me that the Yakuza series took over the void that Shenmue left in it's absence. You've got the exploration, the story, QTEs, the side quests, the arcade games, darts, etc.

i said this a few times, yakuza took what shenmue built, streamlined it, went overboard with the weird, and managed to end up at a better place because of that.

no, shenmue and yakuza are quite different, shenmue is more of a life sim/light fantasy series, meanwhile yakuza is descended from beat em ups and crime dramas, they have superficial similarities but most of them are shared by most open world titles

I honestly think that the ending will grow on people as time goes on. The big reviewers have to review this game relative to the rest of the industry. They are reviewing games for everyone. Not in a vacuum with other shenmue games, not from the point of view of hsrdcore shenmue fans. They have to be as objective as possible and not have a bias toward loving the series already and want an "authentic" sequel to give people proper advice on their purchase. This game is about nostalgia, let's be real. Cant recommend a game based purely on nostalgia that most people won't share.

Aaron Thank you. I’m the last person to defend big time game reviewers, but every one I read on this game was extremely fair. This is a game for Shenmue fans, but the games were always janky and niche even back when the first came out. Plus, the tech behind this one is laughably bad, especially on console (Digital Foundry did an excellent video on this). Honestly, I’ll go one further than games reviewers and consider this series a pyramid scheme if they continue to make them. And that saddens me, as I have long been a fan of Yu Suzuki and AM2.

@@MekanikKommandoh88 yeah, and it's not like these types of games csnt be made well or modernized. The yakuza games come to mind. So I personally dont think the excuse "its shenmue so it has to be this way" holds any water at all. Or the whole excuse of "they only had 6 million dollars, it was a small budget" is a good excuse either. Nothing about the game is well done really from a some what objective view point. I've seen much much better fan games done by teens in their moms basement with zero budget. I'm sure they could have walked into a game development class full of freshmen and handed 10 of them 2 grand each and they could have made a better game. It's so laughable in places that I do wonder if it was just a scam. I dont see where they could have spent any of that money. The budget they did have seems way too high for what we got. I also find it hilarious that people are yelling st people like ign for being biased because they think they arent hardcore shenmue fans. Which.. lol. They are asking ign to BE biased. just toward something they like.

Hmm, I never stated that the big reviewers' reviews are wrong. Only that I value Joe's opinion more than theirs. I only ever knew of this game series from Joe and Dave back when they talk about it, and the other two KZfaqrs actually, my bad there. I'm also more wary of big time and industry reviewers as of late for several reasons, which I will not elaborate here. shenmue 3 has : - Improved graphics over part 1 and 2 - Improved more modern controls - an added leveling up system that wasnt in part 1 or 2 at all - side quests that were not in the first two at all -Almost no loading during gameplay - and yes you dont see Ryo drink a coke as you mentined in your review but hey least this time stuff that you buy actually adds to the gameplay HP. All this makes the game more deeper, gameplay wise then the first two games. So how excactly is Shenmue 3 not as good of a game as part one or two? when its the same thing but with these improvements added. I think fans who claim the first two were the best need to look at these games as games and not just go by your fond memories of the first games cause techically part 3 is the most improved game in the series, and wether you like the Shenmue series or not, it just is. and noone can say that its not with these addtions to it, cause they really are there.

I also prefered the combat system in part 3. but also found the new game forces you to take your time even more so, which i enjoyed more. cause I find the series was always about the journey, what he learns from the people he meets along the way , taking your time ect and not just about cracking the mystery of the phoenix mirrors while kicking Landi's ass ASAP, like Terminator lol. Really its a game series that needs patience and that shows, through even from what some of the characters in the games even try teaching Ryo at times. and that's probly even why some gamers dont like the Shenmue games ,cause lack it lol

Because the story did not progress. SPOILERS....! . . . . . . . . . . 20 years later and Ryo still cannot even land a single hit on Lan Di. The ultimate in cuck technology. A filler arc that made no difference. Super Eyepatch Wolf did a great video on how just a tiny shift in the ending narrative could have made ALL the difference for this game. Actual narrative progression. Even just landing a single hit would have been a narrative improvement.

Hey Joe, thanks for the review! I can relate to a lot of things that you are saying here. I was having some issues during play through because of it being made longer. But no matter what: setting foot into beautiful Bailu village for the first time and enjoying its atmosphere was well worth waiting for 18 years and would have been fulfilling for me without the rest of the game.

I crossed Shen Mue with Tokyo Highway battle. If yall can remember Ryo has a Sega Saturn in his house. In my story his dad is like a Japanese Tesla & they use the mirrors to communicate with higher beings for advanced technology. Lan Di wants the mirrors to create advanced weaponry to take over the world. He runs the ungrounded racing world in Asia and Ryo must climb thru the ranks in an attempt to take him down.

@@kefkahkefkah No good advertisement about it and publicity. If you will make a game let the people know about your game. The dreamcast was stopped in production why wonder the first 2 games did not became number 1 that was the only game that plays like this before grand theft auto 3. Very modern unique idea and realistic game play and graphics. This third will be number one in sales slowly. Why? Because it was hyped up, lots of advertisements and support from the fans. This is not a niche game it was just launched at a bad time. This third sequel will be very successful.

@@awakenedsoul2638 "No good advertisement about it and publicity.if" ? you dident live back then?, this game was huge, every gamepapper talked about it for years being yu suzukis game to "save the dreamcast" "worlds most expensive game 70 millions", being followed from saturn to sega. Yeah i dont think you base your comment on anything true really, even if it sold 1:1 with dreamcast owners it wouldent be a sucess profit wise, wich it dident. And every non dreamcast owner basically knowed about the game due to the insane hype video game journalist had on it as game of the year.
@awakenedsoul2638
@awakenedsoul2638 4 жыл бұрын
@@kefkahkefkah Are you sure? Yes 70 million total for two games, if you think only for one game you are wrong. I watched documentaries about this game and game reviewers who made history of this game. That is what they said are you telling me they are lying? The dreamcast cannot hold on longer that is why this game also failed and a game that is not made to be niche no one will spend 70 million to make a game just to be niche since then everybody thought this game is niche. How can SEGA get back their money spent on this game if their console failed? It was suppose to be a Saturn game exclusive imagine if the Saturn lived longer until the early 2000's. Ryo was actually Akira from Virtua Fighter that is why the game controls the same like Virtua. Are we suppose to talk about deep history of the game? My point is now it got the proper hype unlike before that not a lot of people knew about this game. Shenmue III will be a massive hit.

*Let’s share our Shenmue 3 tips here* I know got to trigger some weird glitches and I’d you wanna know what they are and how to do them keep reading. Okay the first one is easy, when you come back into the hotel look at the stairs and when Right after Shenmue says “Ryo, I’m going upstairs” look at the couch where she was sitting real fast and look back at the stairs and you’ll see shenhua sitting down after she went upstairs and when you look away and look back she’ll be gone like A ghost. Similar glitch, when you talk to shenhua on the balcony of the hotel she will go to sleep after your talk and if you walk to her window you might already know you will see her sleeping, but if you look real close sometimes she will be standing on her bed then she’ll be laying down similar to the Shenmue 1 glitch (if you experienced it) with Ryo laying down as another Ryo is standing over his bed except there is only one shenhua at A time. Another weird, but kind of annoying glitch is “the sun glitch” if you wake up in the hotel and immediately go to the fisherman closest to the hotel and go to the “secret” fishing spot behind the forklift port you will experience the sun glare coming shining and disappearing. Lots of weird ish going on, but when I found out how to trigger I’ll put them here. If anyone has some tips or “secrets” feel free to share (please share and thank you for doing so)
