This took so long to prepare. Almost 2 weeks of farming, trading via Pokemon Box to then deposit the Premier Balls in FireRed. An absolutely unnecessary extra piece of work but very worth it. Shiny Mewtwo caught in a Premier Ball - You only really need to hunt it once, so why not make it extra interesting!
I was surprised this shined so quickly. I really felt like it would be a long one for some reason. Sometimes you just have a feeling about a hunt and I thought it'd go to 20,000+ but apparently not.
This may be my last upload until Scarlet and Violet come out so I will see you guys in Gen 9.

Congratulations on the shiny Mewtwo! I never would've thought of using a ghost type and using Trick to give it Leftovers to prevent Struggle from hurting the shiny. I appreciate you sharing your method.

it was the dark type of sableye not ghost, to protect it from psychic moves, mostly. nothing is immune to struggle

It's so cool to see these shiny legendaries in Colosseum. Mewtwo's tail almost looks gold, and his eyes glowing during attack animations is awesome. Cool hunt, and congrats on finding it!

Also 1/8192 odds with no methods and no saving the game upon encounter makes these so much more emotionally rewarding

@@TheHorribleBarista im not exactly an expert in gen 3 rng, but basically the way shininess is determined is based on your "frame" and your trainer id (generated at the start of your playthrough when you hit new game). the frame progresses with time, so him taking a break right then made him land perfectly on a "shiny frame" which made the mewtwo shiny. (pretty sure its more complicated then this, but i dont really know much more than this lol)

@@uhsquidThat is how the shiny RNG works on RSE but not FRLG. Shiny frames are notoriously very hard to deal with in those gen 3 games

Man, Mewtwo is and always will be thé endboss Pokémon for me. Such an epic monster! Congratulations on the finishing of this quest and on this amazing capture! Hi Sonikks just want to say that I enjoy your videos. You are the only pokemon channel I watch now because I don't rly have time anymore with college. But I make the time to watch your videos soley because I know that you shiny hunt on genuine devices like GBA and DS's, etc. I dont know why but to me the fact that you get these shinys on genuine nindendo hardware makes the shiny so much more meaningful in my opinion.

This hunt for mewtwo reminds me of the time I shiny hunted my own mewtwo for 3 months and after a long an crazy journey, I found him in 4'344 encounters on my own leafgreen. boy it was nuts back then. Congrats on your own shiny mewtwo!

556 premier balls…. Goddamn Sonikks overkill much? 😂 I know Mewtwo is a bitch to catch in general, but sheesh XD better to be safe than sorry! congrats though! Badass shiny! So glad it was way under odds too! That really is interesting though after all the shinies Sonikks has hunted, he has not hunted Gen 3 Mewtwo yet. He did Gen 1 though through the stats trick.

This was so awesome! Glad I was there when this happened 👀 It really just makes me so happy when people properly prepare for a hunt and capture. I appreciate the strategy of tough captures like this and I'm disappointed when people just decide to YOLO lol rofl throw a ball OMEGALUL and hope they end up catching it in an X ball but inevitably throw a master ball turn 2. Okay maybe I care a bit too much about that but still. Fantastic capture, absolutely made my day when you found it 👏

The gold mewtwo form gen 2 and the gamecube games is one of my favorite shinies period, I wish they went with that over the green, congrats on the mewtwo!!! If you ever go for 100 battles on mt battle you gotta use mewtwo for that gold!!!!

Nice catch! I did the exact same strategy with Latias on Southern Island to get it in a dive ball, stressful hoping the plan actually works but so worth it in the end for being that bit extra LOL

Thank you for the respect you gave ol 150! Also that has never happened to me in all my years of hunting - taking an ingame break and hitting the shiny frame! Mad kudos to that! 2nd Edit - when looking for special attack Mewtwo at lv 70 you are looking for around 260 sp attack at catch without calcium. 3rd Edit - shiny Mewtwo’s eyes glow blue when he gets hit with an attack and moves his arms as if saying “Enough”. Best when getting hit with a low effects move like a Pound or Headbutt.

Now this is awesome! There’s an art to catching Pokemon besides just chucking a Master Ball like every other shiny video, kudos for that. I appreciate this video also because I too love catching legendaries in premier balls. I’ve never shiny hunted but maybe I should start!

Nice! This was actually one of my only random encounter shinies! Lol I was just having trouble catching it so kept resetting every time it killed itself, after like 3 runs it shined so I just chucked my masterball at it xD

I figured id lay out the worst shiny experience for me. So late one night was in my car just having a general look around in the crimson mirelands on pokemon legends arceus. I hear the shiny sound i look its a shiny alpha Ursaring in all its green majesty. I catch it sneaking up with the first gigaton ball. Bam! Caught it with so much excitment to name it. Perfect timing too cause i recently lost my siberian husky Taz in real life and always called him a bear. As you would think was happy named the big boy Taz....Welp before i could even think of saving i get an error code. Had to restart and look in the same spot but never showed up again 😅😔

In red i just threw ultra balls at him with full health 25 times and caught him(not shiny obviously). Good memories. Use to do it every run i did. I bet they removed that.

In my first and only endgame firered save I tried to catch mewtwo with ultraballs because I used my masterball on zapdos and it took me ~630 ultraballs to catch mewtwo

So I "lost" my leafgreen for a long time. Now I'm trying to "finish it" by catching Mewtwo and I dont have my masterball, and I'm kind of sad about it. Right now just trying to power up my pokemon so they don't die from one psychic attach (my start was venusaur, so he's weak to it). I'm kind of hoping all of these restarts will give me a shiny, but will be so sad if I don't catch him.

Do you just have to keep on turning your game on and off and restart from your last save until you get a shiny version of it?

You soft reset. A, B, Start & Select. Keep going until you find it. The odds are 1/8,192 of a shiny. Full odds = most rewarding.

One question, I'm trying to get a Shiny starter from pokemon Omega Ruby, I have a 3Ds and does it affect anything when I turn off my console? I mean, I do the soft reset, but I want to turn off my 3D when I want to sleep, but I'm afraid I'll mess it all up.

I did this on let’s go pikachu took me 22 in game hours and around 1200 resets until I got mine. I’m doing my 2nd play through on fire red and I wanna give it another shot haha!!!
