Another fine video. My father in law is a wood nut like you guys. He does amazing lathe work. I have a metal lathe but have been tempted to turn some wood with it. And I’ve also started dabbling with resins. Thanks for teaching me so many things.

I'm curious about the cottonwood. As a tree they are very wet and soft, I am surprised that you are able to get solid slabs out of it. What are your plans for them?

That cotton wood is a really light colored wood. Besides black, what colors of epoxy would you use with a wood so light?

Did someone say bowl blanks? Really, you do so much more than tables. I have taken courses on turning, jewellery box making, sharpening, etc. You truly are passionate about the wood, but also how is used. Oh yea- you also host, or give a meeting place to the Calgary Woodturners Club. the people you hire are also passionate about the products. Almost every time I am buying wood, they ask what I am doing with it. They care.

Product question for your business: What happens five years down the road when epoxy "river" tables prove to be not as durable as full-width wood table tops? All that junk wood you paid premium prices for become almost worthless. Just wondering.
@BlackForestWoodCo
@BlackForestWoodCo 4 жыл бұрын
Where does your evidence come from that these tables will be less durable? We have been using resin in our tables for nearly a decade and have little to no issues. The only time we run into problems is when the wood is improperly dried. We have pieces that have test pieces been outside for years in our Canadian climate and still look great. From all our experience with epoxy and woodworking we have found these tables to more just as or more durable than solid wood.

About people who are critical of your work. I suspect people everywhere are accidentally taught that the life cycle of any tree is infinite. Or to put it another way, trees are forever except for trees who meet their end from fire, wind and idiots who cut them down. That is truly flawed scholarship and it might be helpful for you to tell us regularly about the actual life cycle of various types of trees and your work to memorialize the life of beautiful trees for all to see and appreciate for ever and ever. Perhaps even, include a copy of Joyce Kilmer's 1913 Poem TREES with your product delivery ~ www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/12744/trees ~ So, as a general suggestion, create a vocabulary list of trees and give us a fact or two from that list several times a month as you are planning your videos. Good Luck.
