This is one of the longest videos I have posted, and that is because making this type of 2 part hat...takes a long while!! Allow 5 hours to make this in sinamay and longer for felt ( due to the drying time).

Hello! I've been working on my son's top hat today. I bought your pattern, but my computer stopped working, so I can't print anything. Since I couldn't print instructions, I've played your "Let's Make a Mad Hatter Top Hat" at least eight times today! 😄 Eight is plenty, so here I am watcching you make this sinemay hat. The previous green percher is so pretty. Thanks for spending the day with me. 😆🪴

I should say it more often; I appreciate your tutorials. I view a lot of hat making videos on KZfaq and you provide the best information. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Viewers like me aren't looking for perfection in presentation. We want accurate information. When I read instructions I don't understand, I check your channel first for clarity. Should more time become available, I hope you will consider making more thorough, indept videos on patreon or a similar format. (ha, ha, I know... we all wish for more time, but I can dream)

Thank you so much Beatrice, I try to show that these skills are not elitist, and we should all have a chance to make things we love. Now the UK is in lockdown again, maybe I will get more time.. who knows?, again I appreciate your comments, and it makes it all worthwhile x

Good tutorial. My only critique is that you try to keep what you are doing on camera so we can see it.

Hi good day🌞I got myself a Sunhat and i love it but the top bit keeps caving in is there anything i could use to keep it staying up? Thank you🌞
@SHMillinery2 жыл бұрын
Hi it depends on what it is made of, if fabric you could spray starch it. If straw, paint the top with pva glue, 1 part pva to 3 parts water

Hi Sara, i haven't used an open brim before. So, if my brim block doesn't have a ridge, should i pin my sinamay at the bottom of the block or the middle?
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
You can do either, it depends how deep you want the brim. If you pin to the bottom, you have more choice on depth and can trim where you want it.

Can i use an elastic instead of a string? Won't that work easier maybe? That is on the brim of course
@SHMillinery3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work as well, because when you try and pull and stretch the creases and pleats out, the elastic moves with it.
@pattischulz53793 жыл бұрын
Wide elastic is good to use After you have stretched the sinamay (or felt). I use it to make sure the sinamay is snug to the crown or brim. It works With the blocking tie. Stretch the elastic across the block and pin it as needed.
