In this video, we will explore Uganda's bustling capital, Kampala. First, we will walk trough the city's main thoroughfare, Kampala Road, before crossing Entebbe Road to the recently-renovated Luwum Street. Filmed in crisp 4k for maximum emersion.

I am a white Englishman, 68 years old and know l will never get Kampala so it’s very enjoyable to experience it in this way. The older l get the more l am convinced the future belongs to African countries like Uganda. I also believe they will bring peace to the world and not conflict

@@WhiteMansaM It’s a serious point not a pious hope. Plenty of African countries have civil wars etc but they do not claim the territory of other countries or invade each other. Now contrast that with China and Russia…

@@jontalbot1 I don't doubt that Africa's economic situation will continue to improve in absolute terms in the long run, as it has everywhere over the past few decades, thanks largely to technological spillovers from countries at the frontier (mainly Western countries, plus, in more recent years, East Asia). Perhaps in a few decades, deep poverty will be unknown, and life expectancy will only be a few years behind the West. Life is apt to improve in some meaningful sense for Africans. It's *not* all bad. However, it's extremely unlikely "the future" will belong to Africa. They have made little-to-no progress in the sort of human capital necessary to achieve meaningful economic convergence with the frontier economies or to contribute meaningfully to progress in science, technology, or medicine. Some gains are likely still possible here, particularly amongst the laggards, but it's very unlikely they'll be even at the level of South America any time soon, let alone those of Western Europe (+offshoots) or East Asia. Nor have they experienced meaningful secular convergence with the West over the past few decades. Indeed, they're further behind economically today than they were in the 1960s. Africa's share of global GDP may rise due to more rapid population growth, but that's about it. There is absolutely no reason to think they will rival the United States or even China as a region. I also don't see any reason to believe Africa is any more peaceful than Asia or Europe; quite the contrary. Numerous civil wars, ethnic conflicts, interpersonal violence, and more in Africa should disabuse you of this notion. These trends have also not improved relative to the rest of the world. I don't see why interstate violence should be any more important (Africa has still surpassed in overall conflict deaths for the past several decades!), but interstate conflict is apt to be inhibited by fractious internal politics, weak states, and limited resources. What would make you think an Africa with competent, well-resourced states and some real sense of national unity would abstain from conflict with other countries when they think it's in their self-interest?

This white English man probably knows that Africans are the richest people on earth in terms of natural resources. Africans have never needed to cross any oceans in search of other people's resources. We have everything. We just need to develop ourselves. So yes, the future belongs to Africa 😍💪🏾🥰😊
@jontalbot1
@jontalbot1 6 ай бұрын
@@gerrytushh What l was thinking is that although many African countries have major internal divisions, they respect each others borders. They do not invade one another or any other country for that matter. What causes major conflicts is one country invading another like Putin or Israelis taking land from Palestinians to take two current examples. In the modern world it doesn’t matter about having raw materials. Singapore and Denmark for example have virtually none

@octomancer Really ? That's a typical comment from a clueless westerner caught up in the anti chinese hysteria. For your info, Chinese are the ones that built all those streets , buildings , hospitals, schools, and the airport you will land on when you go to a safari . So they're won't " bring" that you saying since they've been established there for decades already .... And what America is bringing to Africa these days? Hypocritical lectures on topics they fails in their ownbackyards, Pride months, maybe soon teaching us Drag shows story hours in schools. .. Certainly, not competing with other powers for investments.

I was in Kampala in 1982 working for Belgian shipbuilding corporation down at Bell road passed the brewery on a Wagon Ferry to take cofffee across the lake ! Myself and a friend found out that there was a snooker table in one of the bars! It must have had about 50 knife slashes across the Basie ! But we were very good accomplished players from S Wales and tried to teach the locals how to play! The local people were wonderful and friendly and always laughing with us! What wonderful times at Silver Springs Hotel in 1982! Don’t know what happened to the Ferry we built ! It was built to take coffee across the lake cos by road it used to get Highjacked and sold on to buy Guns ! Crazy Tomes Man! Philip Locap and Gerard Kizito were my friends

What's so courageous about them? They slaughtered tens of thousands of Asians in a maniacal genocide because their lunatic Amin 'Dadda' claimed the Asians controlled business. After that, Uganda's economy went wheels up. Then, they begged the Asians to return and help them rebuild the economy. And you respect that type? You say they've integrity. You've got a screw loose mate. You can't apply Christianity in Africa to people involved in Ancestral worship. Today, the President of Uganda supports Putin. So what's changed. That was interesting (but that's why I clicked on the video - what I was expecting/ hoping for.) I was there once in the 90's and the Kampala I saw was a quite a bit different. There was less commercial activity, and the traffic was at a continuous crawl, so slow you could just about walk faster than the cars. (That was just the street to the central bus station, though, so I might have just missed the main streets. Wanted to buy a book at the local book shop, but there wasn't any book shop.) Some guy came and squeezed up against me in the taxi, and I realized he was trying to "dislodge my wallet", so I told him quietly but firmly that I didn't appreciate what he was doing, and moved the wallet to the pocket on the other side. At the next stop he got off, and as soon as he was gone the rest of the taxi all decided I was all right for standing up to the criminal like that, and the whole way to Port Bell we talked about the problem with criminals, and how I had sorted him out nicely (something that seemed to please them a great deal). There was no lake ferry. I thought I could go to Mwanza from there, but the ferry that sank that time was the only one, so the service was discontinued. Got a lift back with one of my fellow passengers, who had just gone out there to pick up his van. He seemed a very kind man, and now I think of it, he may have even been a priest, because he was an expert brick kiln maker, who would teach people in the villages how to construct kilns to fire their own bricks. Ah! Those were the days! (But the impression I got, as far as traffic went, was that Kampala must be one of the most chaotic cities on Earth - a problem that could've been solved with a few officers on point duty, a few stop signs, a few traffic lights.)

Demanded our Kikuyu driver get out of the car where they pushed him into a ditch and kicked him repeatedly. They were enraged and yelling through our closed jeep window. They had spears and were waving them at us. This was before Idi Amin. I went back to Africa many times and love it.

I'm so glad you're sharing these videos, as I'll be in Kampala and a few other places in Uganda soon. I enjoy visiting cities even if most people skip over them and join a safari tour. I have plans to watch a Liverpool game with the supporter's group in the city, and I want to explore Kampala just as you are. What kind of camera are you using? Can I safely walk around using my mirrorless camera, or should I use my GoPro? I've traveled to many cities in Africa, the Middle East, and in Latin America. So I'm used to feeling somewhat easy in some places and taking precautions (even in the USA). Sometimes I feel safe but sometimes, I don't feel safe. I felt very safe in Kigali. How would you compare how safe you felt in Kigali to Kampala?

@@KerrySomewhere honestly Kigali is safer, but Kampala just has phone 📱 and gadget snatchers. No one will do you body harm but someone might snatch that phone from you and run 🏃💨 off. If u keep displaying it for all to see

I don't worry about my mirrorless camera. Pickpockets are after phones and wallets. Downtown areas are safe enough with basic precautions. But it is not nearly as safe as kigali.

the road infrastructure needs to be improved upon and also the traffic control system needs to be installed in an urban city like Kampala, proper parking for vehicles loading along the road. Kampala is a beautiful place hope to visit one day

Actually this is only the CBD but you will be shocked the mansions in upscale areas of Kampala like Muyenga,Kololo,Bugolobi,Kitintale,Ntinda,Bukoto,Ggaba and many more..There are mansions that Iam yet to see here in USA but the media always picks the negative issues about African countries

Of course, he must visit Kenya and make tons of videos about beautiful picturesque Kenya's cities: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret. Otherwise, he shouldn't claim to have been in East Africa!

those who judge Kampala by other cities standards are wrong we can't all achieve the same things in life, if we did the world would be such a boring place. Kampala is unique and a true definition of an African city. So think deep before tou place your judgement.

You are correct, to a point. I was just in Cancun Mexico. The city is not even 50 yrs old and who ever planed the streets, replicated a plate of spaghetti. For such a young city this makes no sense. I feel that there is a certain standard required for safety. Certain standards required for an orderly flow of traffic and most definitely standards required to make a city livable with a good quality of life. I lived in Bogotá. Two things I loved about it. Major green areas running through the city like veins. Every Sunday Morning most streets closed and they became a Bike, Roller Skate and Pedestrian only zone. It’s not hard to set standards and follow them. The problem is, you need politicians who have vision and are not totally corrupt! Africa Can do it, if they have the will to do it! It boils down to the people demanding more from their politicians.
