I've been ba certified mechanic over 40 years and that is not the correct way to pack wheel bearings. Also why not replace the worn and overheated brake shoes? If you had that much trouble trying to get the brake drum on, why not back off on the brake shoe adjustment the re adjust them. I didn't see him bleeding the brakes also since he disconnected the brake line. Shoddy job.

And people paid him for this garbage... lol. First the grease job on the bearing was pathetic, but the icing was watching him take and put the excess grease back in the can with dirty fingers. Nothing like putting fresh dirt in with "new" grease... Just wow.

While there is much to criticize in this man's methods..there is also room to say that just having a job done by a "professional" is no guarantee either. Had a new cylinder head put in replacing one with nearly 200,000 miles on it. "Professional" didn't think it would be necessary to have new rocker arms riding on a new cam. I was out $400 having his mistake corrected.

Absolutely incredible, hammer and home made chisel, personally I'd have tried a puller, wonder how long those bearings will last without being hand packed, so much done wrong, I've seen so much on here watched one guy heat the drum in his oven and placed the bearing in the freezer, put them together with loads of smoke and flames, obviously with a lose of the grease, how many unsafe cars are on our roads with so many KZfaq home mechanics trying these tricks, very frightening

You take the emergency brake cable out by putting a hose clamp around it to compress all the tabs at once and then put a screwdriver or punch against the end of that housing and tap on the punch to drive it out of the backing plate. Simple.

Is it me or are those break shoes about done for and why doesn't he at least adjust the shoes so the hub will go on and then readjust the break on that side and I hop he bleeds those breaks after cracking the break line wide open.

He should have obserbed the procedure to secure a correct preload on the bearing which means using a torque wrench whilst spinning the wheel then backing of the nut guidence should be gained from car dealer or haynes workshop manual consearning preload procedure.

With the brake drum design wheel brake replacement is very fast. Try and do it that fast on disc brake when the bearing are inside the steering arm or inside the rear axle.

Disagree. Removing and reinstalling a disc brake wheel is much easier. No bleeding or brake adjustments required. I have t worked on a drum brake in a while but couple years ago replaced wheel hubs on a disc brake system and found it quite simple.

I have to disagree! I would rather do disc brakes, i can do them in a fraction of the time it takes to do drum brakes. With drum brakes you have to see if the cylinder is rusty, then try to adjust it & try to get the drum off. Sometimes have to heat the drum to break it free. Disc brakes, just a couple of sockets, a C clamp, & you'll be done in 10 minutes. No need to bleed brakes, don't have to replace rusted cylinders. If a caliper is leaking, it will take a little longer, but still easier than drums. Even replacing bearings isn't bad with disc brakes. Some vehicles today have sealed bearings, just unbolt the old hub & bolt the new hub in.

We would use a torch to flat top the bearing race and not hurt the shaft. Sand the shaft and install new bearings.

Has to be some where in africa or maybe india They would not do here No way. Very rough back yard job. Not knocking them. Far from it. Did not see them bleed brakes or adjust brake cable. I would change brake shoes.seemed glazed and wornout he put new drum on did not put new shoes , Also looked like leaky wheel cylinder.

I am not sure about record time, but for the tools he had, it was not bad. I credit him for what he did, but the way he'd lubed bearings is wrong. Bearings need to be packed, not submerged in grease. A little heat on the inner bearing race would have made it easier. Driving races was not entirely correct, either. If they are not fully seated, your bearing preload will loosen up.

Anyone else think that the handbrake lever in the hub was a bit seazed, and all those new parts fitted but no new brake shoes on a new brake drum. The driver will need to bed those old shoes in on a new drum.

Sorry, good work getting everything apart but the wheel bearings were not packed correctly with grease. These bearings will not last nearly as long as originals. Grease must be packed/forced inside the cage completely, smearing grease on races & rollers is not adequate
