People need to stop bashing Lars Nootbar just because he played on the Japanese team. He's half Japanese and American. You can't be bitter over the results... Cause the Japanese team was just crazy good this time. It was a win for the sport of baseball. A great game.

Baseball was introduced to Japan 150 years ago. And tomorrow, team Japan challenge to "Sensei" country. This is a moment that makes you feel the history of baseball and the splendor of sports🇺🇸🇯🇵

@ThorkageMOB 12% Well, all the East Asians are getting A LOT taller since they're no longer malnourished like when their countries are still poor. The height of people directly correlates to their quality of life. This is something economists have known and cited for years.

I've noticed that too. By American standards I'd say Ippei is like "average tall." But pretty much everyone looks short standing next to 6'4" Ohtani because that's quite taller than average, and he's very broad shouldered too, so he appears even larger I think. I'm barely 5 ft, imagine all the stuff that man could reach for me on high shelves!! hahaha My ex hubs was 6'1" and the runt of his fam, w/a bro 6'4", a dad 6'3" and a sis 6'. He didn't like it! Worked fine for me tho. lol 😋 God bless tall men, esp in the grocery store aisle. I always need help! 😄😉 (PS Short men are cute too.)

@@pial3270 According to an NHK Japan documentary, Shohei never used to "study" the stats of the players until a few years ago. He's got thick binders full of players stats that Ippei carries around. Reportedly, Shohei's dad is real proud of him considering he was pretty bad as a kid in regards to his pitching, as he was always worried he'd hit one of the other kids by accident. Ippei is really good. Shohei speaks in a very Japanese way (almost excessively polite with indirect expressions - suitable for Japanese audience) and Ippei does not need 3 seconds to pick up the core information from Shohei's words and compose a whole new sentence that sounds more natural to the US audience. Not easy to do with that speed...!

Why is Lars playing for Japan instead of the U.S.? 🇺🇸 🇯🇵
@sam-il5pr
@sam-il5pr Жыл бұрын
In wbc, you can choose the nationality of your parents to compete even if your own nationality is different. In Lars, his mother is Japanese and has Japanese nationality. He has wanted to play for Japan since he was a child because of his acquaintances and contacts in the Japanese baseball world. He loves the U.S. as much as he loves Japan.

Since childhood, he admired Samurai Japan. There's a video of 10-year-old Lars saying so.

He can speak English with other players (Like Noot) just fine. In fact he's super talkative and friendly. Its only during the interviews that he uses an interpreter, probably because he's self-conscious and he wants to be precise.

@clubeyxander5132 Жыл бұрын
@@RickB.rolling Almost no American speaks Japanese in five or so years. American players playing in Japan have never spoken Japanese fluently enough to answer interviews, even those who had played longer than five years. Besides, Americans come to Japan and complain that Japanese don't speak English. You don't hear Japanese people complaining that Americans don't speak Japanese in America, do you? No offense, but I hope you understand how funny your statement was.

@@clubeyxander5132 respectfully disaggree. And if what you say is true those players need to learn Japanese. Simple as that. If you are a big star (not a JAG) then after 3 or 4 yrs you should have been taking speaking lessons and should be able to speak for yourself. So my statement isnt funny its practical and respectful of the culture you work in for 9 months out of the yr.

When you're a pre-school child or so, 1-5 years is usually good enough to learn a foreign language if you're living there. The younger the better, but grown-ups take much more time, especially if they haven't studied its intensely beforehand (like a language student) . Ohtani is a specialist in baseball, it's rather ridiculous that you think he would be able to speak English fluently in 5 or so years. He does seem to understand much of what is being said, though. Give him another couple of years, it'll come.

It was a new rule implemented this time where players could play on the teams of their ethnicity. By doing that it elevated every team competing and made the tournament 10 times as interesting and exciting. Nootbaar was never going to get on team U.S.A. with that All-Star lineup, but he came to Japan and in 3 weeks became a household name and superstar here. It actually might be the smartest thing he has ever done or will ever do in his whole life.

As a diehard St. Louis Cardinals, fan and a proud American, it saddens me to see American born baseball players play for other countries. What a disgrace for the home country of the United States of America. I have no respect for these players and shame on the other countries who utilize American born talent for their teams. Lars should go live in Japan since he loves it so much and can brag about a championship he has against his home country of the U.S.A.
