Sorry there is a looped clip again this vid (and there was one last vid). Not yet sure whats behind that. it is possible i am the cause - but i think it is possible its the software. I record, if its not too terrible i keep, and move clip to the main file. If its too crap i delete and try again. Not sure how have had a repeat of same clip as once its moved, its moved. It took awhile to get Durianrider off my algorithm. He was like a bad accident that I didn't need to see, but found myself curious enough times, that he popped in my feed. I haven't missed him or his failed logic.

I think we've misunderstood what the manufacturers of wet lube mean with "cleaning". Maybe it just means that it cleans away that annoying metal from inside the chain and replaces it with this nice grinding paste instead? I guess it also "protects" your chain from too much use, since you'll replace it more often.

Ha yes i must say they are using the most loose definition of "clean" possible!! Life must be awesome if they are that easily impressed. If all the usual things like dust, mounting, thermal paste and fan function have been checked, I can only think of a few things. The cpu or gpu might not be getting hot at all. This would mean a problem in the bios or even the thermal probe in the chip. Or they could be getting hot but the heat pipes have a leak. Without the liquid it conducts heat very poorly.

yeah tis a mystery, i was hoping for more possibilities to try vs replace the cooling circuit (expensive, and hail mary without knowing why the beautiful looking current one isnt working). I have installed multiple temp monitoring software in the end, and all the same - CPU way hot, GPU fine and dandy. It could be faulty reporting, but then it keeps crashing when hot. I am not sure if faulty bios if this would be the case, because when it crashes - whilst i cant check then, but the fans keep going flat out until re boot - it doesnt seem like that would be the normal safety process if the system thought the CPU was overheating, it should just dial down CPU performance to run cooler. I would hope (and you never know) that if re installing bios (is that thing...) may eliminate a potential cause that the guy would have suggested that. I would hope...... Let me know if you think that can / should be done though and i can look into further....
@eliaschnl

@@zerofrictioncycling992 There are many things it could be. If the temps go radically up and down, 10-20c in a short time, I would try to verify the actual temperature of the cpu. This could be done with a thermocouple near the cpu die. I'd also measure the portion of the heatsink/heatpipe directly over the cpu. If that gets hot but doesn't carry the heat towards the fans, it could indeed be broken. A BIOS is usually pretty easy to upgrade. I download the correct BIOS file from the manufacturer, put it on a flashdrive and flash it in the BIOS setup. Quite a puzzle though! 😅

@@eliaschnl Alright groovy - and i did forget to mention that i think there is more weight on the temp being the issue because when i removed case and sat the laptop on top of a household box fan - things were a lot better, temps staying in 60's and no crashes. The laptop repair guy did the same, and found same. So he also thinks its cpu temp as we have both the temp readings and crashing when get hot which happens almost straight away on use, and notably lower readings and no crashing when case off and sitting on a fan. That is not super practical though....... especially for recording...... will chat to my IT lady re bios, and to dell re getting that on a flash drive. If i can save it, it will be a great computer upgrade for mini me over his cheap small $500 laptop :)

@@zerofrictioncycling992 If its a really old bios then according to kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e5qDYNKBupe-p5s.html you have have to upgrade it one version at a time if your current one is 2 versions or older than the latest. yeah i dont know - honestly super disappointed - 6k aud for a high end gaming laptop and it lasts 3 years doing comparatively very light duty. Seems pretty rubbish. I mostly bought it because an alienware computer was one of those things i coveted when i was young but could not afford. I have been having fun buying stuff i couldnt afford as a younger man :). I aways used to think it would rock, and for 3 years it was perfect, and i was looking forward to the upcoming years in our long term relationship, until it cheated on me! Place your bets on what dell customer service will be...

I was in awe of Alienware as a kid myself, though I've heard the reputation declined when Dell bought them up. My own expensive Dell laptop from 2007 needed a motherboard replacement within 2 or 3 years, though I think the warranty covered it. Battery life didn't last much longer, basically functioned as a desktop, especially once the screen died and I had to use an external monitor. 😂 Overheating was pretty much always an issue, required to be on an elevated stand with ample airflow to avoid CPU throttling. Desktops are a much better investment, my own build from 2012 is running strong, with barely any maintenance or upgrades. Staying on Linux and away from Windows definitely helps keep things efficient.
@zerofrictioncycling992

@@redkeyspoke Yeah i must say i have been surprised to hear nothing good about dell since delving deeper once probs started. And in Aus they were recently fined 10 million bucks for deceiving consumers (when people bought a computer or laptop online they were offered a special sale deal for a monitor. This makes you think it is good discounted price for that item that you are getting due to making a computer purchase, so a lot would add to cart assume that it was great deal / price. but in actuality if one went and looked, they could get the later model monitor for cheaper than the special deal being offered - it was just a misleading way for them to clear older models and at a price premium vs discount). So.... yeah, dell sound like yet another big company run by morally bankrupt execs. Again things like this take a bunch of conscious decisions and actions that the persons driving them KNOW is morally wrong (and illegal), but they do it anyway. And were probably rewarded with financial bonus / promotion for acting immorally. It is getting hard to find large companies who do not have such a culture, its nuts. Sadly - too often great company gets bought by a bigger corp and all they care about is profit. Profit is super important of course, but so is companies culture, its soul, what made that company what it is - ie what made them attract and keep a loyal customer base - when the soul of what made the company what it was is just trashed by execs who a) never understood what made the company what it was to begin with and b) the only line re what they will try to put over the consumer in the name of more profits is defined by likelyhood of being caught - just how often do we see new bigger owners just destroy the legacy of once great businesses. Suffice to say, i think it is likely this is the case with dell buying alienware, in which case Dell can go F themselves. But we shall see - if they offer a replacement straight up without a fight, i will come back and say many wonderful things about dell and their customer focus hahahaha (but talking with friends who had issues with dell, i think this outcome is HIGHLY unlikely!!!)

What is the tool HWinfo saying about the stats in your overheated laptop? Maybe there are two options for that: 1. The hardware produces to much heat and the cooling is working or 2. the components work normal and the cooling is not working.

not entirely sure how to check that bit - i have only been looking at temps. The temps stay cool (40's to 60's) just after a reboot. Will stay there if i dont do anything. But say i open chrome - cpu has to do a bit of work, temps go up to 80's almost immediately as cpu goes from say 8% to 17%. As i open outlook and excel - temps jump up into 90's, jump down again as it appears cpu is trying to work out how to throttle down to control temps, but gets confused as its barely working - so temps just jump up and down, up and down on all cores quite quickly - until sometime between about 30 seconds and 5 mins of opening those 3 things to work, it would crash again.

no havent had any issues until this. Literally 3 years of im in love with my alienware - then one day, randomly - fans went full speed. I had never even heard them before. Shortly after, it would crash. Reboot, and then 30 secs after re start, fans would go full speed again. Installed speedfan to check temps and cpu was hitting as hit as 106c. Whilst at say 12% cpu usage. Did every clean, scan, fix suggested as well as re installed windows, all vents perfectly clean and clear, no dust, re- did thermal paste - got it down to like mid 80's to 90's but still constant spikes and crashing every 5 mins. So gave up and bought new pc, finally took the alienware to laptop repair specialist recommended to me, and he is also completely stumped. Nothing should be causing cpu to overheat and crash, but.... it is. all this beautiful copper piping connected via thermal paste to the cpu, all cooled by nice big fans (the laptop weighs 4kg...) - and cpu is as hot as a boiling kettle. wtf alienware. wtf.

One more question, how are you able to achieve such accurate chain wear measurements? What tools are you using to measure them? Thanks!
@zerofrictioncycling992
@zerofrictioncycling992 8 ай бұрын
I use kmc digital chain wear checker which gives you 0.01mm measures. However...... note that each tool is not exact to each other, so despite being expensive, if you have 3 tools, you have 3 measures. I find it best to file the end of a tool so that it will give you an actual measure to start with (ie insert in a brand new chain that is measuring 0.00 wear via full elongation measure check once strip cleaned). Then if that tool gives you a reading of say 0.23 - thats your baseline 0.00 measure - they are very accurate from there re 0.01. i have 3 tools and all will measure same wear amount to 0.01 on same section of chain (i use to double check measures) - just sometimes the start measure for these tools can vary from one to another.

At home you dont need, really only peeps like me (or good bike stores) - i think overall demand for such an expensive checker is low, so low production which drives price up, and makes hard to find as not many places willing to stock as could be $$ sitting on shelf for a long time.

Why does KMC have a "near monopoly" on the bicycle chain wear checker market ? We need choice . DT have made one in the past. I have a Hozan one from Japan but these too are rarely seen nowadays . The only other way is to get one made by a fitter machinist or toolmaker / watchmaker . I have thrown away KMC checkers as they are rather touchy and sometines readings wander a bit with them .

how do you remove rust from a chain , When I cycle in wet conditions, I change my chain after 1 ride and wrap it in a cloth. Sometimes I get a little rust on the chain before i rewax .
@zerofrictioncycling992
@zerofrictioncycling992 8 ай бұрын
not a really easy way. are you wiping chain dry and then wrapping in a dry microfiber cloth? Is it salted roads? How long until re wax? Alas rust is not easily removed (rust remover solvents, stiff brush - or rust removing solutions for ultrasonics) - but good news is it is just unsightly vs causing damage. chain will start to oxidise on outside way before inside where it would cause a problem due to air exposure. but if its not solved with dry and wrap in a dry microfiber cloth - you may want to look at a quick spray onto chain of isopropyl alcohol, then wipe, then wrap and store. the alcohol will help remove rust catalysts from water (such as salt and other minerals)
