Shooting for FUN Again - With the Nikon D4

I have been shooting for a very long time and from time to time you find yourself in a shooting funk. This may not mean that you are not getting great images it just means you are either tired of shooting what you have been shooting or your just not feeling it.
As of late there has been a lot of pressure when shooting, its pressure that I put on myself. Some of the other pressure has come from all of the outside noise in regards to all of the analyzing of the new Nikon cameras including the Nikon D4. When I went out shooting with the D4 I felt that I was shooting each picture than trying to analyze it and compare it to the Nikon D3s. This was messing with my mind and I had to turn off all the noise and just shoot.
The other day my long time friend Graham Colton came to town, played a live show in the loft and asked me if I would be shooting his show that night. At first I thought I would just go hang out and not take my camera. Than I flip flopped a few times until I decided that I should take my camera and take a fre pictures.

Been following you for only a short while and I mostly concentrate on the video production side but I must say, watching your videos has inspired me to pick up the camera for its originally intended purpose - taking great photos. Keep up the good work dude. Peace, K.D

Jared i really like your new way of making videos. Been following you for more than one year now, and it seems like even your skills as photographer, but faremost a teacher, has gone up. You now find yourself at a level of exposure where every video you make reach out to soo many people. Therefore the amount of haters is also gonna be high, but hey, 80.000+ subscribers cant be wrong!!! Keep it up.

At last, someone who's with me! I have Lightroom but use PS as I haven't a clue about where to start in LR. I need to be able to store my pics in a way I can find them easily, not how it is at the moment - searching for hours! Also, tutorials on editing would be kind of useful, too... So come on, Jared, let's have some LR tutorials. :-)

I think he meant that he doesn't manually focus. The D4 supposedly (i don't have one) is awesome at focusing in low light. I know i, with my Canon 40D, can't focus in really dark unless there is a flash attached or i manually focus. i hope that answers your question. The D700 is fantastic, but i'm sure not as good of a focusing system as the flagship D4

I really like this video! To me, it's different. I love how you explained the fun aspect of it. How you can be happy when you don't have stress and it's just for fun. It also gives you the chance to try different things out. Great video Jared!

Really nice shots 4:10 was perfect. the next few where semi similar so I wouldn't have used them together(ex. in same article or same promo poster) but they where all strong images.

I like shooting dates, if you have a girl/male friend, when its a nice day, go like downtown walk and shoot for a few hours, stop get something to eat, walk and shoot a lil more. Its really fun because your walkin,talkin, and shooting. Great Vid!

oh yeah sorry about that of course D4 was what I meant. Nikon and Canon really should diverse the names of their models more, saying 4D instead of D4 instantly makes it read as Canon.

i love the way you burned this guy...however, even though you didnt express it, im sure these kind of comments can get to you sometimes...but maybe they dont, i honestly have no idea...but if they do eat at you a little bit, just know that you have helped so many people and every single one of your videos have helped someone out there somehow. there are a bunch of trolls out there and sometimes their words do hurt sometimes but never stop what you are doing. ever. i appreciate you so much.

Hey Jared, really enjoyed the change of pace in this video. Quick question for you: What sort of noise reduction software do you use (if any). I know the D4 has amazing low light capabilities, but even at iso 5000... the underexposed areas are so dang creamy!

you took 30 photos? and those photo are great. i used to take 100 photos to get few good shoots. this video inspired me to think of the composition first before taking pictures.

Hi Jared, these pics are amazing! I went to my first gig to take pictures last week with an embarrassing result! I have never took pics in such conditions before. No matter what I tried I literally couldn't get a single shot!! Would you possibly do a video on gig photography and iso and shutter speed etc please? I

Thank you so much, kind of funny that you make the comment on this video as not teaching you anything and trying to sell you something. You sure you didn't mean to comment on the charity t-shirt video? I think you just may be missing the bigger picture. um its called confidence. as a photographer thats something you need. He's not showing off. before you sell your pictures as a photographer i think its best to actually like your own pictures. i mean, seriously..he even critiqued himself in a few, so chill out. but yea, being humble is not a trait you want in the profession of photography.

nice. im new to taking photos. I thought that one would want to avoid high ISO so noise and what not. i have a Rebel t2i for my first SLR and I dont think i have ever taken a pic at anything more than 1600. i know that it is better for low light and makes it able to get more clear shots because you can raise the shutter speed. Am i wrong about the ISO thing?

at 5:20 you said you dropped the ISO to 400, I looked at it and was like okay... and then I saw the corner of your image and what you meant was 4K ISO O_O , the 4D sure has some monster ISO performance

Jared, I have a D700 and decent lenses like the nifty fifty, 85, the tamron 28-75, all of which are fast lenses. In situations like this I have to resort to focusing manually. Using AF is simply out of the question for most of the times. I think most of your subscribers are like me who can't afford a $2.3k lens, so I think giving that advice to never manually focus at all is misleading.

wow im so jealous of you owning a high end camera like the d4 well i only can afford a 50mm and a crop sensor cam :( and i pretty much like shooting at night i have no choice but to boost the iso which i hate :(

Which exposure mode do you use most often? In the behind the scenes of ‘Laforet Visuals’ iOS app, Vincent Laforet claims he mostly uses manual mode which surprised me.

Your sarcasm is quite funny, but I think you missing the point as much as ppyromaniac. You do "sell out" (I guess he is referring to advertising all kind of shirts, sponsors (Allens, Drobo etc.), your own channel (last segment), froknowsMovies etcetera. I'm NOT saying that it's wrong, I'm just trying to clarifying his constructive critique. Don't just wash it away like it seems. However, I liked this video much. And yes, I really enjoy froknowsMovies as well, so don't get me wrong double :)

You gotta realise that Jared can only give the amazing teachings to you for free, if he is able to live, hey! So he needs to get an income too, and therefor it is essential that he sells products as well. If you truly value his work and are grateful then why not buy some products, to thank him for what he has done for you? That way you show some respect too. Now, to be honest, think of who is being selfish here? You curse him because YOU want stuff from him for free, not caring about his life.
