Yep. It was a well crafted song right down to the Beatles reference at the beginning which was so spot on for all the kids that they inspired to want to be rock and roll performers just like Elvis had done a decade earlier and it was cool that Alex picked up on the specific usage of the words shooting star to fit the sad tale of so many young performers of note that checked out that way.

To your comment from 3 years ago..."Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day..." as you get older you realize life passes by like a whole summer vacation, which passes by as fast as a single warm summer day, etc. Its all over almost before you know it. Hmmm. Dont mean to sound all bummed out or anything though

This may sound a little "nit picky" but I stopped listening to a channel because the husband said to the wife about ELO - Mr.Blue Sky... (i paraphrase) I like the rain and he makes it sound like rain is a bad thing, so i hate the song. We NEVER see that childish behavior with Andy & Alex. I so appreciate your analysis, Alex. For me, Shooting Star was more like a solemn remembrance of rock and roll loss. In 1971-72 we lost 3 legends over the course of a year, all the same age, all of the same cause. It was a dreaded theme and like generations before us we took it hard. And make no mistake, even then we knew Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison were legends. Then there was Duane Allman in a motorcycle crash during that same period And others I can’t think of right now It was awhile ago. Do more Bad Company, please. Well done, guys.

Shooting Star is a banger and classic short story complete with hope in the beginning and sadness at the end. Imo they covered the bases in this rocker with both storyline, feeling and dynamics and lyrical content which are all super hard to do within a 3 minute span. Finally more Bad Company! You guys nailed the reaction in this one! The lyrical analysis by Alex was deep, and spot on. Paul Rodgers is noted as one of the iconic voice standards in classic rock. Realize he was also the lead singer for Free, with songs like All Right Now, which is said to be played on the radio somewhere in the world every 45 seconds. Bad Company has got a wide range of fantastic songs. The songs you've got to listen to are: beginning with the harder hitting songs - Holy Water, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy, Burnin' Sky, Rock Steady, and Can't Get Enough; to the middle ground - Bad Company, Shooting Star, and Movin' On; to the softer end of the spectrum - Ready for Love, Feel Like Makin' Love, Don't Let Me Down, and Seagull. You can't go wrong with any of these songs, or anything else from the Bad Company discography.

I always get chills from the lyric "Johnny said, 'Don't cry momma. Smile, and wave goodbye.'" To me Jukebox Hero is the light/happy version of Shooting Star, like a Disney movie based on a Grimm's fairy tale. (Jukebox Hero was several years later than Shooting Star.)

Paul Rodgers is the only singer who can sing Whoooaaoooaah Yeeaahheeaah, and make it sound like he just said something profound. "Feel Like Making Love" is the only song where they have a ripping guitar solo(not really a solo b/c Rodgers is singing over it, but it rips).

@hermit shack, I remember same as you. Paul Rodgers never got over Paul Kossoff's death. He said they all saw it coming & was a factor in the band's(Free) breakup. Kossoff died age 26, in flight to New York, from pulmonary embolus which many say was attributed to drug abuse. He was a great guitarist. YT has a lot of video coverage from his days with Free.

I liked your analysis of the lyrics. I feel like it is not only in reference to stars that might turn to substances after they have lost their initial star appeal, but you can also apply this to all those musicians who died at the height of their careers because of their overindulgences. We keep getting that repeated history of so much lost potential from those who die far too young from this same sad story.
