While I can't take away from Bob's abilities, because he's a far better shot than I will ever be, he actually missed the balloon both times. The first shot was slightly to the left, and the second shot was about 8" below the balloon. Both times, the shrapnel from the impact popped the balloon, but he did hit the plate, which is exceptional, even more so with the snub nose.

It's the snubnose that makes it impressive. I shot handgun metallic silhouette in the 80s and the farthest steel target in the revolver categorie was at 200 metres which is 220 yards. We shot standing, with open sights and had to topple heavy steel targets. Many had similar handguns to Bob's a few had shorter barrels. My point is that the 44 mag shot is highly achievable. It's the snubnosed one that is exceptional. One way or another, I'm not comparing myself to this fabulous shooter but drawing a perspective to illustrate how difficult the shot with the short 38 special barrel is. Slower, more drop at distance, far less power and a very short sight radius. Many people have difficulty hitting a bullseye at 10 yards, let alone pop a balloon at 200. This is actually quite tame compared to many of his other feats. Bob Munden was a legend.

Mr. Bob took a tiny J-frame Smith & Wesson Model 60 Chief's Special, with a 2" barrel, and shot out a balloon "200-yards" away. He only used 1-shot to accomplish this feat-of-feats! A stock Model 60, with black rubber Pachmayr Grips, and at a distance many shooters with scopes on their rifle could not make. This man, most likely, is one of the best top3-handgun shooters ever.
