I finally decided to change out some old big box store cabinets I have had for a while. I make the drawers, make the doors and install everything!

I'm preparing to build cabinets very similar to these. Do you have any concerns that the door panels may warp over time? Or do you have stabilizing "bars" on the inside to prevent that?

When you spray the finish do you also spray the non visible areas such as the cabinet bottoms and back? Or leave them unfinished? I'm wondering if it's necessary to help protect the wood? Thanks
@GuysShop
@GuysShop 5 жыл бұрын
Nope. The cabinets got sprayed on the inside only, except for one side of the tall cabinet and upper cabinet that was exposed. The drawer fronts and tops of the shelves also received finish.

Guy, beautiful work, as always. Delivered in a nice style with no cussing - there's always a little bit of cussing in my shop! I am curious why you left the inch or so gap between the bottom of the cabinet and the bottom drawer? I usually keep the bottom drawers about an 1/8" from the base. Is there a reason beyond personal preference? Thanks for your videos - I always find them inspirational.
@GuysShop
@GuysShop 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and trust me, there is always a few curse words here and there. Just not on camera :) The reason that happened is I got ahead of myself when I put the drawer slides in. If I would have set the drawers that close to the bottom, by the time I got to the top, that slide would have not hit the drawer side. I figured it was easier just to lose a little depth then to re-drill for the slides.

On your other built-ins, it looked like you were using an adhesive backed edge banding and roller that didn't require an iron - is there any particular reason you're back to the iron on variety here?
@GuysShop
@GuysShop 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Elliott. I did use some of the Fastcap stick on banding, and it really worked great. No issues at all with it. However, it is really expensive, and I just used the iron on variety here. Takes a little longer, but still works well and has never failed me.

I'd rather use iron on ,the stick on is just so gooey , I spend more time cleaning up the mess it leaves behind than I do ironing it on Also I find the line it leaves behind to be kinda thick by comparison..

At approximately 700 on the video you set the bottom drawer in the tall cabinet. It appears you just set the drawer on the bottom of the cabinet. After fastening the drawer slide to the drawer to the drawer, it appears you have a much larger space between the bottom of the drawer and the bottom of the cabinet. Also, do you have the plans for this cabinet system? Thanks. Roger

Guy, I always see people checking for square on their cabinets and drawers but never see them adjusting them when they are off a little bit. If they don’t come out perfect as shown in the videos what is the procedure to square them up? Thanks
@GuysShop
@GuysShop 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom. That's a good question. The first answer is to not build them out of square :) (Sorry for the snark!) If they are not square, it's easy enough to cut them to fit the opening by cutting the panels out of square. There are multiple instances of this shown in some of my other videos. One that immediately comes to mind is my chisel cabinet build where I show how to use shims on the table saw sled to shave a little off here and there to make the door fit correctly.

Hey Guy. On this video you used a shop made jig to drill the cabinet side for the hinge plate screws. On another of your videos, which I can't find, you used a Rockler Jig-It to do the same thing. From what I can see, the Jig-it seems pretty useless, because the measurement to the screw holes is based on the door thickness plus 38.5MM(at least it is for Blum). Did you have any issues with the Jig-It?
@GuysShop
@GuysShop 3 жыл бұрын
It wasn'tthe correct set back (37mm?) forthe hinge plates
@markk4015
@markk4015 3 жыл бұрын
@@GuysShop According to what I read on the Blum website, you add the thickness of your door, they call it "T", to 38.5mm to get the correct setback of the screw holes for inset doors. So if you had a 3/4" door(about 19mm), you would add that to 38.5. Therefore the setback should be 57.5mm. Funny, there were a couple of reviews on Amazon that pointed this discrepancy out, but now they're gone. The proof is in the pudding though, if they worked for you, I believe it. I just don't understand why. I'm in the process of trying how to figure out how to send the schematic to you.
