your phone and automobile spies on you and they tie into your internet accounts to identify you and then base recommendations on what to watch on your pop up feeds. connecting an iphone to any computer is the worst, microsoft and apple will share telemetry and account data back and forth* in about a tenth of a second with out your consent.

A1 job! You do know that you have balancers that have offset weight added on and they do add the correct balance weight for that particular engine combo....and the pressing point is very important to check size making sure it will not damage the threads on crank nose.... The kit I have has been put together through years of working on all kinds of engines so I have many different sizes of pressing points to fit a variety of crank nose diameters. The use of a dedicated balancer installer is a must so you do not risk damage the the crank thrust bearing especially on a fresh rebuild. Hammer need not apply for this job😂
@Shop2092 жыл бұрын
Yep. On small Chevy engines it’s only the 400 that has the balanced damper. Then it’s only on external balanced cranks. Definitely have to make sure the crank thread adapter is correct. Thanks for watching!!

They are balancers as well as dampeners, just depends on internal or external. For example a 71 440 with a forged crank is internally balanced and would have a balancer that is neutral, but my 74 440 with a cast crank is externally balanced which means my balancer is indeed balancing the engine. If I used a the 74 balancer on the 71, or the 71 balancer on the 74, there would be major problems from being out of balance.
@Shop2092 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I was mainly talking about small chevys. Only the 400 was externally balanced. I guess I should have been more clear.

The original Chevy factory service manual called the harmonic balancer a "torsional damper", which more accurately described its function. I wonder when--and why--the term changed.
@Shop2092 ай бұрын
Probably when they started building motors that were externally balanced and the damper had weights added to it.

Great Video. I enjoy watching all of your videos. There is so much for me to learn. Do you know why balancers are of different thicknesses? The one that is on my 307 is 1 1/2" thick. I just picked up a 305 and the balancer is 1 5/8" thick. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
@Shop2092 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Because of the mass of different stroke crankshafts. The dampers add mass and change resonant frequency. The less mass the crank has the less damper you need?

🥝✔️👍👋🤜💩🤛Nice to see your channel. We've conversed on the NNN and UTG and Richard Holdener lives a few times, it's great to see your excellent work. I use a modified Toyota Racing Department flat pry bar and your puller with a custom cut down removal spigot. On my engine swaps, there is no room to remove the balancer because the radiator or MacPherson strut gets in the way. The Malibu LS balancer removal is one of Detroits worst inventions.
@Shop2092 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah. That LS balance design is a pain.

Hi. I have a small oil leak coming from a Chevy 4.3L coming from behind the harmonic balancer area. My mechanic just installed a new timing cover. He told me that he failed to use some RTV on the keyway on the balancer shaft and that's why it is slinging oil. Does this sound correct? You don't show any RTV being used on your install. Thanks.

I'm going to look for your in car, timing gear replacement video. I have a friend with a 1980 3.8 V6. I can rotate the dampener 5 or 6 degrees before the distributor rotor starts moving. I be thinking some of the nylon teeth came off. It backfires and won't start. New cap and rotor, it's got fuel. He said he had the pedal to the metal just trying to make it home.

How do you install, if my crankshaft doesn't have threads? Im working with a 1961 Chevy 283
@Shop209 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. The only way to install it without threads is to use a block of wood and a hammer.

it would be interesting to know how many people actually use a hammer to install the balancer
