Can we leave the cord behind on our grinders now? Tools like the Gen2 Milwaukee 2880 M18 FUEL 4-1/2" Angle Grinder definitely take us a step closer. In fact, if your only use for a grinder is for small projects and small pieces, then you can take that step now. This ‪@MilwaukeeTool‬ brushless grinder is intended to take the place of an 11 Amp corded grinder, and it actually pulls it off. While this 2880-22 is offered with two 6Ah High Output batteries, we still achieved great results with a 5Ah battery onboard. Milwaukee covers the grinder with a 5-year warranty and you can get the bare tool for just $179.

Love how easy it is to put the type 1 guard on! Supposed to use a type 1 guard whenever using a cutting wheel - doesn't matter if it is a type 1 or type 27 cutting wheel. Its just for added safety in case the thin cutting wheel breaks apart - this way you have coverage on both sides of the wheel with less chance that the flying wheel parts will bite you. I always use the type 27 cutting wheels because they are more centered in the guard. Great review!

Yes, I think it can replace any corded grinder. Maybe not all day, but for a couple of hours, no problem. I picked up a 1st gen last year, it's replacing my 30 year old corded Dewalt. 90% of what I do takes less then 5 minutes to do, but dragging out 50 ft of extension cord and raping it up took more time then the job. What I love about the grinder. It makes less noise. It's more balanced, the Dewalt was front end heavy, with the M18 battery at the back end, it just feels better in my hands, balanced. And, no more cord, or even a air hose. Good Job Milwaukee ! .

Definitely use the 6 AH HO + on this tool. The 5 AH doesn't deliver what the machine is capable of. I tried using a 12 Ah HD on it and there wasn't really that much difference between this and the 6 Ah HO. 12Ah HO batteries make a real difference in the circular saw for sure.

I bought the 2880-20 yesterday because my corded DeWalt had stopped working. Based on all the positive reviews, I really was disappointed in how quickly the battery drained when I used it for grinding. Starting with a fresh battery, I don't think I got 5 minutes out of it. I had to figure out what was wrong with the DeWalt and go back to using it. I'm sure the Milwaukee will be nice to have out on job sites where I need to cut or grind something small, but I don't think it's anywhere near capable of replacing a corded grinder.

Just picked up this model. Noticed that The battery connection molex on the tool itself can slide back and forth about 1/16” inch - can basically slide within the opening in bottom. My other fuel drills have a little play but much stiffer. This seems to be spring loaded (always goes back to original position) but moves easily and freely. Is this normal? For vibration dampening? To be clear, I’m not talking about battery side to side movement- which I know is normal and due to tolerances. I’m talking about the spade connection on the bottom of tool that battery contacts receive. Can anybody confirm this is normal?

I have to admit, I've flip-flopped on this one. I moved to a diamond wheel (metal blade) for a while, but I think after 20 or so cuts they start cutting slower. I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine kzfaq.infoUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.

I was like that for over 25 years. A month ago a cutting wheel exploded on me (using no guard at the time). The pieces hit my thick leather gloved hand so hard I thought it was an electric shock (which made no sense of course but that's what it felt like). My hand was bruised, red, and pretty sore for a few days. If that had been no gloves it would have been a bloody mess. Then I thought, what if that had hit me in the neck? When changing discs, you should always remove the battery. You had your hand on the disc and your other hand was over the switch with the battery in at one point in the video. Somewhere at the 16 min mark you changed a disc and you had the battery removed (good practice). Then the next change you did it with the battery still in. You have a bad habit of not following safety rules. And the operating rules from Milwaukee do say to disconnect the battery, before changing discs. Not only are you a accident waiting to happen; you showed a bad practice to everyone watching your video. Overall a fail.
