Replacing your OEM heavy led acid battery is easy on a Ducati Monster 1200 or 821. I used a Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 for my bike but any make should work fine. The bike is quicker to start when cold because of the increase CCA over the OEM battery. The Shorai battery is about 6 Lb (2.7 KG) lighter then the OEM battery.

Can’t thank you enough for the tutorial brother, it was very accurate. Took me about 30 to take it out and around 45-1hr to reinstall. The hardest part was indeed reconnecting the positive terminal. Cheers.

I didnt even know where exacty the batterie is! And was affraid to exchange myself the old one against a new. Allthough I changed a lot of Batteries in a lot of bikes. But : After having seen this video I did it! I thank you so much to show how it works!

Thank you so much for the understandable clip! Except of the unclear manual and one Italian clip op YT, there is no explanation for this and what tools you need. Grtz from another Monster1200-rider!

Your instructions are a heck of a lot easier to understand, than the user manual. Thanks! But, it looks like it doesn't fully apply to the 1200R. Getting to the initial side cover to disco the negative lead doesn't appear to be the same arrangement. So, I guess I'll read the manual and supplement with your video, and get this figured out. :-)

Much better instructions than the owners manual. But I thought the ground wire was the hardest part. The bolt is back in there and hard to get at, and hard to get started to re install it. Positive was easy, I did a lead acid battery so just re used the stock weird bolt.

Skyrich battery for this bike is 2.2 lbs/997 gr, the OEM weight 4.1 kg

So to jump start the battery I would need to take off those panels to get to the negative bolt. My battery aint dead, but you never know when it will happen

What do you mean "don't forget hookup to hook up the power for your ABS pump as well"? When did you disconnect it in your video?

For anyone coming across this now, this is referring to the 2nd wire coming off your positive terminal - it will already be hooked up when you initially remove it before dropping the battery.

"Replacing your OEM heavy lead acid battery is ridiculous on a Ducati Monster 1200 or 821." There, I fixed it for you. This is my 7th bike, I have never needed help removing a battery before. This makes me want to buy a tender. Also, is removing the ground wire necessary? Again, after 6 previous bikes, I've never even seen a ground wire on a bike before. Seems like leaving it connected would remove half the steps. Thanks for posting.

+C C Yes removing the ground wire is necessary. If you don't you can create a short. On the Monster 1200/821 its very easy to create a short because in the battery box you don't have access to the the ground wire. With modern bikes (Especially the monster 1200) there are a ton of electronics so a short might not end well.

Do you use the shorai charger for winter storage? Seems like it'd be a pain since the regular pigtail doesn't work for charging and needs to be connected to the battery body to charge?

Well I live in Florida so there is no such think as winter storage, we get to ride all year long ; - ) But any modern auto sensing charger will work for it.

Probably a bit late for an answer but: Yeah, there might be. Just a very very light frizzle (if at all) though.

Thanks for the video. I like how you just skip right over what a nightmare reconnecting the positive terminal is with the small replacement bolt you have to use. There's a reason why the factory one is long. Any tips? Going on hour 2.

+Conor Nideffer I use a socket and a small piece of masking tape to hold the new bolt in the socket on the short extension. I just put a little corner of the tape under it when its in the socket and it holds it. Makes life a lot easier. It also comes down to feel, making sure the nut in the better terminal doesn't move side to side with a bit of tape or a foam shim helps too.

Did you say: "Don't forget to cut off the power to the ABS pump before connecting the terminal"?

+Tim Nilsson No. I said not to forget to reconnect to the power to the ABS pump since the power for that is a separate connector from the main power connector.
