The third track wasn't built for Shore Line East. It was built by the Central Vermont Railway in the 19th century. It was used by SLE diesel trains for layovers until SLE switched to M8s last year.

Nice review, but that third track *needs* to be electrified. I think the reason as to why they haven't is because New England Central owns that track since it leads into the former Central Vermont, but SLE stopping and running both ways on one of the other two tracks causes a single track bottleneck for Amtrak's busiest corridor.

I rode this on a family vacation to eastern Connecticut in 2016. As a train nerd, I loved the combo of ex-Amtrak P40s and vintage coaches. So I miss them not running on this line anymore. It would've been cool if they bought AEM-7s to replace the P40s. Nonetheless, the M8s are objective better and the old trains being on the Hartford Line makes more sense.

At 0:25 Wrong it’s an SLE train the crews and engineer are from Amtrak. And the M8’s are replacing the Diesels.

Actually those M8's belong to ConnDot and not Metro North. Due to clearance issues east of New Haven these cars do not have 3rd rail shoes (Barefooted) and can not operate into GCT.
