Stiffness is inversely proportional to the length of members, less is the length of member, more is the stiffness while more is the length of member, less is the stiffness. Also short column have more stiffness than that of long column for same lateral force and stiffer columns attract more forces. @@civilengineering94 sir now a days i am going to design a single story religious building whose whose height is 18' and verrandah height is 12', now tha the verandah beam is connected at 12' height to the Hall column, Now the two column become short because of verrandah
