This is how I clean my Invector-Plus Chokes for my Browning B525. The principle is the same for most Sporting Shotguns. Like us on Facebook pages/Srspow...

As someone who started fishing years ago (in the sixties) one of the problems frequently encountered at the end of the day was getting the different rod sections apart. Before the advent of spigot joints etc all the ferrules were made of brass. These would stick, and the only way of getting the rod apart was to enlist the help of a companion so you could both pull and push on the individual sections. The way to avoid this was to use the finest grease on the ferrules when putting the rod together. I refer of course to grease from your hair. Rub the male ferrule on the hair before sliding it into the female ferrule. You will never get a rod stuck again. The same applies to chokes you will find. Far better than any lubricant, and also far cheaper.

Just bought a rarely used Citori Lightning and once I get it home (10 day waiting period in California) I will be giving it a good cleaning and the chokes will be a priority.

Nice video thanks for sharing. I use never seize lightly on the threads also. But beware that silver crap gets all over if not used lightly.

Cool video again bud, as a personal preference I always clean my chokes every time I clean my guns I've just got in the habit. Unfortunately I have seen the results of what happens when chokes aren't maintained. My mate thought not cleaning his gun would be fine, then whilst we were out on a shoot day he raised his gun to shoot a pheasant and boom bye bye muzzles scary stuff. I've seen other examples aswell which were on display on the basc stall at the midland gamefair a few years ago. I've also seen/experienced what can happen if you fall over with your gun and don't realise you've picked up a blockage. That's why iam always checking my barrels whilst out shooting. Hope you don't mind me waffling on? lol. Also hope you don't think I'm picking at you? I was just stating my preference lol. Hope alls well cheers

I think you might be being a little paranoid! But yes it's not a bad habit to have either. Better to overmaintain than under. Thanks for watching :)

As I do not often like to change my gun choke tubes , I like to leave the others which I do not use in a plastic choke - tube container ;coated with a light coat of Vaseline. I think with Vaseline you might get better long- term protection against moisture: used as a protectant not as a lubricant. Do you recon this is better than oil? What is your opinion pls?

I totally accept what you do, but I just have to clean everything, other wise I would wake up in a cold sweat at 3 am mumbling incoherently " threads not clean, threads not clean" even if they are totally fine. Nice old school dibber on the back wall ( no homo ) :)

Ha ha! Being a little OCD does seem to be a trait amongst shooters, I am like that too about most things, not chokes though! And yes my Dad's shed has some real gems in it, makes a good studio. Thanks for watching :)

Ahhh, your not the only one who has lost their choke key, so I have a question, does one choke key fit all chokes, because the key that came with my chokes is impossible to find anywhere! Cheers

Never seize on the threads...and 409 Cleaner on the tube ...spray and brush the tubes..and whipe clean..proof its cleaned ...409 eats the plastic build up ..just spray..metal brush inside with barrel brush..and whipe clean..then add the never seize on the threads..u are done...simple...fyi...

I'm damn sure i would not leave my chokes in situ for a year, that can be a recipe for your multi-choke gun.....not being a multi-choke any more. Yes, i know it's unlikely but why take the risk? Especially if you're a wildfowler/rough shooter out in all weathers. It takes less than 5 minutes to take them out and clean/relube them. Hey ho, each to their own, that's just me. I am in the habit of just undoing the chokes prior to storing the gun, (just remember to nip them up before firing). Oh and that PENNY!! Stop being a tight wad and get the correct key for your lovely Browning. I just had to call you out on that lol. Great down to earth videos mate, keep 'em coming.

I normally do too, taking it out for a proper clean needn't be done more than once a year for most people I think. Thanks for watching :)

I bought a brand new silver pigeon. How are you suppose to clean the barrels? With or without the chokes in the barrels? I plan to use a snake and heard that the snake could damage the threading if the chokes are out. Thus, i was told only run the snake with the chokes in the barrels. Is that true? What do you recommend? Thanks
@srspower7 жыл бұрын
Clean it with the chokes in, I wouldn't recommend a snake other than for a quick clean. To clean it properly soak with bore cleaner and use a bronze brush then use a rod and cleaning patch. For chokes you need to clean them maybe once a year? Take them out soak them in bore cleaner and give them a good wipe down.
@lionelperes66937 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You don't think snakes clean well? People swear by them!
@srspower7 жыл бұрын
I use snakes on my rifles and for the .22lr they are all you need. But every so often I need to clean the .243 properly a snake doesn't cut it. Same goes for a shotgun. If it's say stubble season and you're shooting a couple of times a week for a month or so then yeah a bore snake or in my case a polishing rod with a squirt of oil is fine but after the seasons over it needs a proper clean. A snake won't get the lead out.
@samhaveaguess42846 жыл бұрын
All i use and have done for years is spray with g96 !! Leave soak for a bit then run a bore snake threw a couple of times !! Inspect each time and it comes as clean as a wistle !! Then whipe it all down ! Done! This is everytime i shoot !! Then about every 6 months i do the same thing only i scrub the bore with a bronze brush first a few times !! Then run the bore snake threw till spotless! ! Be very very careful when using grease as it attracts dirt and becomes abrasive paste !! Some old gunsmiths say oil is for guns grease is for cars !! Never put grease anywhere near any rifle and if you must use very very sparingly on a gun !! So i tiny bit on the chokes and as small amount on the hinge points that it !! And whatever you put on the hinge points must be removed every shoot in case if dirt gathering! ! Sorry to go on but thats how i do it anyway !!

can u plz tell me wot chokes uv got in the gun as in qaurter half or full choke in bottom and top barrels wot distance in yards do u get kills with them chokes in and cartridge size number and weight ?
@srspower9 жыл бұрын
I have modified (half) in the bottom and improved modified (3 1/4) in the top and my gun is set to fire the bottom barrel first. Fairly traditional setup for a game gun. This would be for shooting, ideally, at a range of about 25 yards. For pigeon decoying I prefer a number 6 30 gram load, I sometimes buy 32 gram loads but generally speaking 32 and 30 gram loads have the same amount of powder (if same make) so a 30 gram load tends to have slightly higher velocity.
@motomeadyhuntingndmotocros61479 жыл бұрын
cool thanks 4 that cheers 4 the help fella and wot wud u do diffrently when pheasant and partridge shooting driven birds ? wot do u change the chokes and cartridges 2 then ?
@srspower9 жыл бұрын
motomeady hunting nd motocross Those same chokes are ideal for pheasant and partridge. I guess you might change them if they are very high birds but its not likely. I would use the same loads too, so many people buy 'special' loads for pheasant season ie: number 5 high velocity RC Sipe etc. And they ruin the meat! 6 shot is plenty for pheasant.
@motomeadyhuntingndmotocros61479 жыл бұрын
fort probably so and yes people i no always use 5 or 6 and normally 32g but sometimes 34 or even 30
@srspower9 жыл бұрын
motomeady hunting nd motocross 30 gram number 6 is plenty! High velocity can be handy but you don't need more than that! ELEY VIP 30 gram number 6 is perfect.

What's the difference between improved modified and modified? I predict not a lot. (I would take one of either for both barrels if I had a shotgun)
@srspower9 жыл бұрын
Modified is a half choke and improved modified is three quarters. I shoot modified first in the bottom barrel for closer targets and then improved in the top for the second shot as they may be farther away. Thanks for watching :)

I DON'T THINK IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO CLEAN ANYTHING IN THE ROOM WITH ANY TYPE OF SOLVENT. INHALING THOSE THINGS IS VERY BAD FOR YOU. ALWAYS CLEAN OUTSIDE WITH GOOD VENTILATION AND ALWAYS WEAR THROW AWAY ONE TIME USE GLOVES.
