most people cannot learn more then one car. and track sufficiently. It not just a plug and play sim. it Take time to learn each car and track lots of time! spending $350 to start as rookie is such a waste.

@@davejuniorsimracer if a person is at that level then they might as well just play ACC ,AC or other driving games and save money. 350 is what it ends up costing if you really want to enjoy what iracing has to offer / it's main USP and is what people will spend if they want to do a full series of just one car like a Skippy and maybe one other additional event.

I've always been a big motorsport fan, and I've always daydreamed about driving fast cars around a track. Cost, lack of time, my age (I'm 53 now) meant that it stayed a day dream. When I was in my thirties I messed about with online racing, but back then it was either dialup or lousy broadband, which made it an undriveable lagfest. So, I stuck to single-player racing against AI. Last year when the first virtual races started popping up as replacements for real races, I really took a look at iRacing and subscribed immediately. Instant addict. I've done close to 1000 races since then, and this week alone I've completed 60 or so, all of them in the Skippy. As for the cost, I paid more than 350 quid for a set of four rims & tyres for my WRX for a track day (Didn't want to trash my road tyres.) Used them once, and decided track days weren't actually much fun. iRacing ticks every box for me.

I ruined my college lecturer's life by getting him into iracing and sim racing in general. He got into it this year and has bought a lot of iracing, equipment, upgraded his pc and tried vr. His wife hates me xD

@@Darlexis Great! Just to bad it´s nearly 2021 and rain still appears to be a bit off before Iracing introduces it. Meanwhile pretty much any other sim on the market provides rain for wet weather racing.

@CleanPipes it has dynamic weather. And all the weather is simulated, not only texture . It simulates clouds for example that has influence to the track and track temperature. It has only no rain. But I dont miss that. And when they are bringing rain to iRacing I'm very sure that it is not only texture. They would simulate the rain. Lets see.

Given I got stupid lucky with renewal discounts this year it’s been pretty good for me Mind you, given I’ve gone from like 5 to over 40 pieces of purchased content that’s probably where the money saved on the renewals has gone 😅

iRacing is the only sim that I take seriously. To me the competition is what makes the experience real or makes it even matter. It handles VR very well supports just about every piece of hardware ever produced. I enjoy Dirt Rally 2.0. It's fun, but I don't take it seriously. I haven't even tried playing the 3 other racing sims I own in well over a year. I'd have trouble simming without VR, motion, tactile and just as importantly real competition. Those are just the criteria that do it for me personally.

Great vid! I was on ACC for 8 or so months and it was great, but the public lobbies just weren't fun after a while. Either I don't quali and charge up the field for fun or I start somewhere up front and get smoked on T1. Joined a league but could only do 1 race a week there and once my work scheduled changed, couldn't be part of it anymore. Upgraded my rig during quarantine, got a free year for iRacing, never looked back. Have I spent about $150+ by choice? Yes. But like you mentioned in the vid, I look forward to having a good race ready to go whenever I get some downtime.

I do play iracing but the cost does annoy me. But I like racing the same track and car (Skippy) for a whole week and then moving on to a new track ever week. And being able to get that race what ever time of day. If anybody can suggest a racing game with similar or even close to that I would happily give up my ever expensive iracing habit .

The way I feel about it is that I am an Oval guy wether it be asphalt or dirt. So for me it is so worth it. But that being said if I was a road course guy I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't spend the money on the roadside that's why I bought a ACC for that. Just a thought.

Ok, you can enjoy it for less money as some do but for the avg. person James' comments are correct. If you have a great league elsewhere for the type of racing you like then you don't need iracing. If however, like me, you really like car racing that does not exist well outside of iRacing then it's well worth it. I love Indycar and so far have only found good experience with it on iRacing both league and official.

I did the three months and once I moved to D I bought one car and the track for that week and then each week I spent 13 to 16 dollars a week till now I have well over what I need and can just jump into any race just about I only play road

@@jscopesgaming2210 ACC's up there for sure but it doesn't have the progression system iracing does with safety rating giving access to more challenging types of race/car combinations. Unfortunately that's probably just down to the fact ACC is limited to only focusing on specific championships

Another thing to know about iracing is the safety rating system. Basically you have to prove that you are safe for awhile before you can do higher levels of racing. So I came into iracing wanting to do indycar on oval and it took forever getting wrecked on street stocks and arca until I got there. Oh the plight of a kid that grew up on the IRL.

oval racers can get NR2003 for free and its what IRenting was built on. tons of free modern mods and still active online community. SRS even hosts races

If you are wanting to do oval racing and dirt racing then the answer is yes. Great road racing can be found in many other sims.

i just got it and i am having fun with the base models but already about a week in im finding to progress my license any further im going to have to shell out at least 60 buck or so. which i have no money. the 6.50 price tag was just to good to not try it.

I went all in earlier in the summer and bought the two year subscription at half price, then dropped a load more cash on tracks and cars, and have to say, no regrets, I love it. For what it offers in terms of structure, and number of players available at any one time, nothing can touch it. Currently racing F3, and doing some other bits and bobs when I have spare time, I've even learnt to paint my own cars.

If you like ovals you can race the street stocks and Pickup Cup (trucks) with the original content. Try the 3 month deal to see if you like it. Does not have to cost anywhere close to 350 quid.

i agree with you. For me, Besides the cost of IRacing tracks and cars to do a particular series and the Subscription, My main reason is the dedicated time it takes to get good at IRacing against other online drivers and to build up the IRatings. I just don't have that amount of time to enjoy it. If I was younger, maybe. IRacing is an awesome platform and I would probably do the Nascar or Indycar series since I have done both a long time ago, Just before the start of IRacing, with Papyrus Nascar Racing games on free dedicated servers. Back then we had our own Racing leagues. Racing games have come a long way since then. So right now I am waiting for the new proposed IRacing console game to be developed onto the PC in 2025. Should that happen, that will be my link to being with IRacing. I think this is a combination of companies designing the Console game. Anyway thanks for the video, and take care.

Tbh the only thing that really pisses me off about iRacing is the way how they freeze you out a 100% of your account if yur sub expires. You cannot even see the current scheludes or even the content you have licenses for, nothing. It is rediculous. No other sub based game i play kicks you so harshly out of the door, you can normally still see your account. And that brings me into your point, of if you really ned iRacing besides your other sims. I was looking to renew my sub, but well the series i wanted to drive no longer use the GT3 cars i have licenses for (AMG and McLaren) and i just asked myself that same question. And i found out i am very happy in ACC for actual racing online, and some hotlapping in AC. So i passed for now. Also, i honestly cannot understand why iRacing doesn't have a radar app, so you can have much safer racing. After resubbing for a month in november i sorely missed that app. I honestly had to not really race to not get my rating hammered. Also loosing ratings because some dimwitt rams your off the track is rather infuriating.

100% this. Number 1 reason I won't do it until they change their pricing model. You never "own" anything. It's always held at ransom. And the ransom is the "subscription".

@@64ElMariachi Same I used it a few years ago and then about 6 months ago and its meh, the tyre models have only just become usable after years of everyone complaining. Also got fed up of being taken out by yanks thinking they are Andretti and then losing their minds over voip. Comedy value 10/10 Sim value 3/10. So many better and cheaper options out there.

@@LeeFall “So many better and cheaper options out there” Not for multiplayer unfortunately unless you’re willing to join a league, which a lot of people don’t have the time or desire to do. It’s also the main reason why iRacing still has over 100k active subscribers. Nobody offers what they do in the multiplayer department. Even ACC’s system is still a bit mediocre for public lobbies and unless you only drive GT cars, that sim won’t appeal to you anyways.

I have had Iracing for almost 10 years. It does cost a bit at the start but after the first few years the additional cost is very little as you have most tracks/cars you need. For me it is great value for money considering the time/entertainment I spend/get from it. If I were to calculate the cost per mile raced I would suspect it is very very low. I think it is good that you highlighted the worst case scenario as far as cost goes. You can as you say do it for less and spread the cost over a longer time period if you just focus on 1 or 2 series. Many times tracked are used in multiple series. race 8 out of 12 weeks and you get a small credit, every little helps.

Over years do the tracks/cars become obsolete and you have to buy upgraded models?

@@TheGavranatar Very rarely they will retire a car from racing in any series, usually because it has been updated and a new version created. If you own the original they will usually provide the updated for free or a reduced charge. I can't remember a tack being retired. It has never been an issue for me.

I own all of the content and I can definitely attest to the "peace of mind" that comes from knowing that no matter what car they're driving or what track they're at, I've got what I need to join in without having to think about it. It hurts at first. A lot. but then you start getting a huge discount from that point forward so if you're like me and you pretty much just know that sim racing is a part of your life that isn't going anywhere, it will start to slowly pay off. For example, with the 2021S4 Week 13 update, I got the Civic, Elantra, Merc W12 and Knockhill Racing Circuit all for only $35. So basically the track was free. I think hands down the biggest reason to play iRacing over something else is variety of content. show me the other sim where you can race F1, NASCAR, dirt sprints, a Ferrari, back to a street stock, and finish off jumping dirt hills and drifting around corners in a Subaru.... I'll wait.

i just wished it didnt have a subscription system, i wouldnt mind just doing a big one off payment for it like other games, means more people get into the game so same amount of cash influx, probably even more cuz more chances of people buying dlc which is kinda required.

I have a solution! If you want to play iR for the NASCAR content, then just get NR2003. There are a ton of mods that include every car and paint job from every series for the past 40 years. Tracks included. As well as there being a lot of leagues and it’s FREE!!!!!

it is definitely the most expensive with having spent more than 500-600+ in the last 1.5 years... but god, it's the best online racing experience and I don't regret spending a single penny. But yeah, you're right, once you start, you are going to want to compete most races of a season, so you are going to spend bookoo bucks.

Not because I feel pressured to get it, but because even PRO and real-life racers use iRacing to hone their skills and for fun because it's so..."realistic"! £350 for iracing in the first year, that is ridiculous! (says the man who has purchased, GTR, GTR2, PCARS, PCARS2, AC, ACC, RACEROOM, RACE 07 DIRT 4, DIRST RALLY, DIRT RALLY 2, WRC 5, WRC 7, WRC8, WRC 9, RFACTOR, RFACTOR 2, AUTOMOBILISTA, AUTOMOBILISTA 2, OCULUS RIFT CV1, £1000 PC, GT OMEGA ART RIG etc..........) Good point about buying a sim because a youtuber has, i brought all those above and only really play, ACC, WRC9 and dirt rally series....

Don't feel bad . I've spent more on iracing than all those sims with the DLCS now I let the subscription run out and can't and don't want to use it. I've got the sims you got and enjoy them more.

I have played iracing for the last 4 months for a total of like $50. With a couple more tracks and cars I might get to $200 and that’s if I feel like splurging. People blow this up so badly

I joined years ago and recently renewed my membership after a 4 year layoff. Over half the cars I purchased are now "Legacy" or just unused in the sim. I spent a ridiculous amount of cash for tracks and cars, but those I have are very rarely featured in any race except for the Skippy and MX5. It is a vastly over-rated sim and I have to say I get more enjoyment from ACC, Project Cars 2 and Automobilista 2, the combined cost of which is less than tenth of the cost of iracing. If the lobbies of these 3 other sims were a little busier, there really would be no need for iracing.

I've watched few iRacing videos and none of them have ever replicated the Monza T1 carnage of AC so I don't consider it very accurate at all.

Skippy and tracks for that is probably best option for fun racing , basically budget £350 and you will have a good time and not feel pressured Into buying stuff.

600€ and you are all set when road racing, apart from the subscription which I always renew for 2 years. No big deal. Best to do a little research and just buy 40 items at once and get 20% discount on that purchase and all purchases thereafter. But yes, DON‘T get iracing if you beat yourself up over every 10$/€/£ purchase you do in life. If 100 $/€/£ to you is an amount you would, for example, be prepared to spend on a nice dinner with your family, but nothing that really worries you, go ahead and have fun!

1 year ago i bought a sim rig and planed to get really into iracing. i was so excited that i bought a subscription for 1 year before i got the wheel. i drove my mx-5 cups for about a month and then AC was on sell. i havent touched iracing since. its a shame how bad the tyre model is for a game with this price tag. its mindblowing

On paper, iRacing is a great idea. It was created by some of the most experienced sim racing developers of all time. But, I'd go a little farther than GM, and say that for the STRONG MAJORITY of the cars in iRacing, actual racing participation is all but nonexistent. Love the Nissan GTP, the Lotus 49, NASCAR Super Mods, or any number of other cool cars they have on offer? Sorry, nobody wants to race you in those. Well, maybe next Tuesday at 2am, IF we can scrounge together enough competitors. We look forward to seeing you then! I left iRacing last year, after about ten years of membership, for more than one reason. But the participation problem was very high on my list.

I disagree with paying that much a year for the subscription, cars etc. When there is better value for money games out there like ACC, Project Cars, Automoblista and others. Even Live For Speed is still a good alternative

I thought I was moving to another country 18months ago, so packed up my racing rig. Then covid. Still here. I haven’t raced iRacing since packing the rig away. Life sucks and boy do I miss iRacing. It’s worth every penny and I just renewed for another two years on BF discount yet doubt I’ll be racing again before Easter. iRacing=worth every penny.

Hell no. The tire model in iracing is the worst I've ever driven on. Real cars don't feel even close to that and for the price, it should be the most accurate sim racing platform by far. No thanks

Just wondering, ever driven a proper set up car with (semi-)slicks that need some heat? When you give it some time and properly get used to the tire model, it feels better than any game you have played before, but you just need to get over the fact that it takes 3 to 5 laps to get some proper heat in the tires.

@@YannickMX2 I've driven an Ariel atom with avons, formula sae with hoosiers, lotus seven (s2000 motor) also on hoosiers, driven loads of road cars on 200tw, and 100tw (track and autocross) and never had a car react the way they do in iracing. I have spun doing a nearly 70 mph slalom because I was late in the slalom and hit the brake (100% my fault). Everything I have driven takes time to get heat in the tires (about 1 autocross run or 1-2 laps) and even before the tires are warm I can push the car and get it to slip or slide but the car doesn't feel like I lose grip then spin. It just feels like I have less adhesion to the road surface. Case and point I was doing an autocross last weekend in 40 F weather and pushing 100% from the start and was sliding quite a bit, next run I was going 100% again and I was sliding way less. Re71r and in my s2000. That car is very prone to snap oversteer yet I have still not spun the car. The iracing tire model sucks and while I don't have the most real racing experience out there I definitely can tell Iracing has a long way to go in terms of tire physics.

An mx5 doesn't uncontrollably slide sideways and not stop for a quarter mile the moment the tyres lose grip The physics are same old sim shite, feels ok right up to the point the tyres ''break'' in reality they never do you can and should be able to balance on edge, you have no edge in sims, if you have to put on opposite lock that's already too late in sims like this and won't even scrub speed you just have to sit passenger and wait until it stops having it's brain fart and tyres grip again. I laugh every time someone says that ''but have you driven x'' argument. No, but put me in a car and I'll lap faster than any sim on the first lap even do it sideways for you, plenty of actual racing drivers will tell you the same thing, it's just not as good as you like to think it is, good luck when you get some opposite lock in reality as this 'sim' teaches you nothing when you get there.

I agree that the physics, tire model and FFB are not the best. But those are subjective and some may disagree with us. Also I wouldn’t except any sim to be hyper-realistic, they are all trying to translate G-forces, sense of speed and overall seat of your pants feeling from driving through nothing but a steering wheel. Some are better than others though. But if you want to race with others that take this hobby seriously and with a game that gets updated weekly aimed at improving and adding content, you’re going to have a hard time finding something better.
