Hello! In this video, I am showing you around my rented art studio & making a pro and cons list for deciding between working from home vs working from my home studio, which, I have been working in since the lockdown began for me in March. Btw, did I mention I don't like making decisions!!! And also, how weird is it to be going out regularly again since lockdown days... eek!
I hope you enjoyed the video. Leave me any questions or comments down below. And, thank you so much for watching!

I know I'm off by a few weeks but I still feel the need to answer your question about home vs studio! I can't see myself being anywhere but at home. I live alone so it's always quiet and tidy in here. My plants are enough company for me, tho I miss having a cat (my cat passed away from old age) and plan on adopting a new one. But that's all I need. Home is quiet, comfortable, and when I need a break I can bake something or do yoga, which I couldn't do in a studio. I just love how it's simple to have a routine at home, and I don't have to compromise on anything with anyone. Everything is in my own terms. I am part of many online groups of all kinds and that's is enough social interaction for me. I can't see myself sharing a space with other people who I would need to small talk to on a daily basis. I suppose I would have a totally different approach if I was a social butterfly, but I'm obviously a recluse caterpillar. 😂 The only thing tho is if you work from home you NEED a routine. I personally thrive on a strict routine, so every morning I make my bed, shower, get dressed + hair + bit of make up, tidy the house, cook a nice meal, etc. before jumping into "work". I believe it makes a world of difference than working from home in the same pajama for 3 days straight and living on frozen pizza with boxes piling in a corner of the kitchen or (worse) not being able to focus on work at all. That would be bad!

I always worked from home and loved it. However my husband retired 18 months ago and his constant presence in the home has completely changed everything and now I'm looking to get a separate space. I knew it would be an adjustment but could not have predicted how unable I am to focus with him here.

I worked in an office all my life as well as from home which I preferred to do. Then I got cancer. I made many friends over the years but if you’re not out there as much it doesn’t happen. TBH I much prefer to be at home with my children in lockdown. It’s the real place where we all share our love and lives. It’s real and they are the ones who care. My creativity hasn’t suffered and neither has theirs❤️

*EDIT ** I forgot to mention my Facebook respondents to the question of 'home' or 'out-there' workspace... sorry! So the 100% is wrong! Including the Facebook replies it's actually 93% and not 100%.* *Thanks so much for watching*, I hope you enjoyed the video. I am realising just how weird this whole lockdown situation has been especially now during this transition period of coming outside again! It's v strange indeed but it definitely feels so good to be getting back into my studio and I know the social is doing me good on many levels. I hope you are ok and not too anxious, stressed etc. Life is just a bit more of a roller coaster than usual huh? Big hugs and let me know how you are below. Xx

Hey Wendy! Here in the States, in Louisiana, we've had more lenient lockdown than most. But I do prefer working from home. It's less expensive all around, and easier to focus. I've tried co-op gallery membership for studio space in the past. Although there were numerous advantages at that particular gallery, in the end I prefer the advantages of the home studio. Bright blessings.

I love painting, sketching and projects of all sorts. Your studio that you rent would be hard to give up if your home studio doesn't have the lighting that your rental does. Good Lighting is such a big deal!

I think after working from home for many years then getting in a funk, getting out of my routine really makes me want to work in a space away from the house. I have many pets, adult daughter still lives with us and so many distractions I think getting a space away will work better. I’m a creature of habit too. When I’m out of routine it puts me in a really funky mood space.

I have a studio space at home and in the past have had a gallery that I worked at. My ideal would be to have both spaces. I really miss the interaction with both other artists and art lovers that would come into the gallery. For now I will continue just at home and maybe sometime in the future reopen a rented space.

Im fixing my barn at home to make it my Art and Music Studio.... I had a studio in an old Mills for 8 years..Moved out because the 2 Open House dates when we made sales were cancelled due to the Plandemic ...Took me 2 months of Sunday's to move all my supplies and art.. Plus I was a Co- owner of a brick and mortar Art gift shop but Due to unfortunate circumstances with the other partner moved all of my belongings out last Saturday..Now I am fixing holes and drafty cracks in my barn big job!!

We live in our class A RV full time. We bought a small camper to pull behind our Jeep to travel a little easier, now since with all the stuff going on, we aren’t traveling, so I’m using the little camper as a craft studio. So I can get away from the real world to a place of imagination. And it’s tight out my front door parked next to our big RV. Thank you for the inspiration. I know this is several months later, but I only found tour channel a few days ago and been watching all your videos.😊💞

Your studio is awesome! Love the light. I'm very fortunate to have a studio in our detached double garage in our backyard. No skylight or interaction with other artists there, but I love working in my dedicated space, then closing the door on my artsy mess and walking back to the house. I"d recommend it!

You didn't mention what your fees were for renting your studio and that might play a part in people, especially these days, saying they want an in-home studio. I work in a home studio and when we moved, I went from a damp basement room to something on the main floor - felt like a real upgrade! The studio you have is so lovely - so much light plus the skylights - that would be rare to easily find in the southwest U.S. It also seems like a great place for your videos - lots of room and light. It is fun to see your 'spread out' work throughout the studio, too!

As a fellow artist I tend toward chaos. I do not have a habit of making my bed or emptying my dishwasher or any of that. Hence when I want to accomplish work I want to be home but tend to get occupied with busy work because I feel guilty for taking time to draw, paint, paste. For me in the past a rented studio space has been a gift to myself. It makes me take things much more seriously.

Home. I have children, so getting up to take care of their needs and then getting dressed right after and going outdoors to catch the bus or walk is not happening. I can also get up in the middle of the night and work or very early before anyone gets up. I have worked from home for the last several years now.

I love your creative freedom and how you seem to just let all your creative juices just flow you seem to accept all your styles ideas and whimsical imagination you see beauty in so many things. I use to be similar but over time I became my worst critic and of course life stresses and a traumatic experience seemed to shut me down over time . BUT that is all behind me now and I am healing and want to open up this part of me again . How do I tap back into my creative side…It feels frozen in my past …and yet I hear this little voice inside saying “I’m still here”. I finding it hard to find the key to unlock the chest ☺️any suggestions it feels frozen I was so creative

I have mixed feelings here... I own a pottery studio. If I need to work on administration tasks I'm 200% more efficient if I work from my home office. But I also enjoy leaving my home to "go to work", and get nicely dressed (even if I do get dressed to go into my home office room :-P) and seeing people. At the moment, a mix of both fits me well. Un abrazo from Barcelona! Paula

I'm trying to get caught up on all your videos since I just discovered you. I'm actually trying to figure all this out myself right now. I'm in about a 725 square foot temp apartment but I'm trying to get into an apartment in a better location for me. It's only going to be 500 square feet but currently being renovated, which makes me happy. I am really going to be challenged on creating an art space in either the living / kitchen area or my bedroom. I'll have to let you know how that works out! Lol

I miss my rented space everyday - it was a retail store that was such a big endeavor there’s no going back to it - I’ve now taken online and working from home. I would go back in a minute- it was a jewelry making studio and I miss the creative energy from being there - I find it difficult to be creative at home.

I am just trying to get started with transitioning from my current money-making job (decorative painting/faux finishing) into more canvas art. I find that switching my brain between the two is difficult for me. I spend a lot of time in my painting "studio" space just watching videos and looking up inspiration photos. Unless I can have a block of time (several days/weeks) it's difficult for me to want to start creating a painting. BUT I do love my little home-studio. However, I miss the energy I get around other creatives. I love how you mentioned that, too. I feel that sometimes we need to feed off of positive energy. BTW, you are such a breath of fresh air! I'm enjoying your videos! Question: did you have to "transition" from another job into painting full-time? How did you decide to focus strictly on canvas art...or did you? Thank you.

I’m viewing this now in December. The real downside is rental. I’ve enjoyed working from home during this. However my art is theatre, so I enjoy working in an actual theatre, instead of creating a virtual one through zoom. I’ve learned a lot and expanded my creative tool set , but look forward to flesh and blood actors in front of flesh and blood audience.
