Environmentalists want them removed to protect fish habitats, but electric companies that run them are trying to build support to keep the dams.

Too much money at stake to trust that any interested parties have a genuine concern for fish or habitat.

Washington state currently has a surplus of electricity, if any one understands economics/ supply & demand knows to balance the demand with the surplus price for price should be less, rate payers are being over charged

hydropower is replaceable, the money is available to improve the region

Il play devils advocate for a minute. It’s not just electricity, it’s boat sales, property sales, shipping channels etc, removing the dams would impact more then just the electricity.

with investment into small modular reators and renewable energy production the SR hydropower production can be replaced, saving the salmon and orca whales from extinction.

Why don't we talk about the rivers on the Westside. You know the rivers with no dams and NO FISH. Or what about the dams in Idaho with no fish passage. Or all the commercial GILLNETS in the lower columbia and ocean. Huuumm!!!!

Mainstem dams without fish passage (Upper and Lower Salmon, Bliss, C.J. Strike, and Swan Falls dams) all stand in the way of traditional spawning habitat. The 4 lower dams were built later after the river was destroyed. You're right about Salmon and Steelhead decline on rivers without dams and pinniped predation.

😢 This a knee jerk response and a big under estimated costs replace them with green energy that not reliable. And what the lower Columbia river dams why not remove too? This is a slippery slope that if start they could go after every dam that span a river. These people responded to all problem with their emotions not common sense.

I wasn't polled, if I was would say they need to go

If i thought dam removal would save Salmon and Steelhead I certainly would not start with removing the 4 lower dams, instead I'd focus on the 6 mainstem dams without fish passage and are heating up the water. The mainstem dams without fish passage (Upper and Lower Salmon, Bliss, C.J. Strike, and Swan Falls dams) Most of the traditional spawning habitat on the mainstem Snake was between Hells Canyon and Shoshone Falls where migration ended naturally so restoring access to this area should be the priority, not the 4 lower dams that were built after the majority of dams that were responsible for destroying spawning habitat and water quality. I don't think you will ever see Salmon and Steelhead runs like you did before the dams even if every dam was removed since Salmon and Steelhead decline is happening along the entirety of the eastern Pacific and with a growing population destroying habitat polluting the water you can be sure that traditional abundance will never be achieved.

Not too mention the Dam Owners/managers act like they own the river when it comes to public access on those same waterways!

I strongly believe that the dams cause too much damage to fish and the environment. I would like to remove all the dams.

It would cheaper to find a solution to maneuver the Salmon safely through the Snake River. Phase in the alternative means of creating electricity slowly so it doesn't become a big headache for tax payers and only allow one or two damns to be off not destroyed (in case issues arise from alternative electric sources). Getting rid of an electric system that is reliable and clean will throw Washington State into a Texas Electric scenario that no one will want to deal with especially as climate change is getting worse during the Winter and Summer months. Issue solved for all.

Give up the drum pounding emotion...fish runs will never be what they once were...so create a new ecosystem...make fish hatcheries and new river like habitats right next to dams...that stretch was always slow moving and removing dams would not significantly lower the temp. create features on the side of the river to increase turbulence and increase oxygen...give up the quest to have native salmon runs dominate...it will never return to 70 years ago.

Fish hatcheries are entirely inbred and do not survive.

@@crazycarl00 Watch this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbR3q5aWv5eYdJc.html Those salmon had to go through Dams in the Columbia river. Monoculture tree plantations and monoculture fish populations are the directive of these big government agencies. Give individual tribes and individuals in the community the freedom to cultivate the natural environment. Government has screwed things up so bad...there is a non binary choice. it's not either these fish or those. Removing dams on the Snake river will do nothing to increase populations. Habitat restoration and innovative new fish streams to replace the ladders will do more. Dems just want to destroy the infrastructure we have and call it progress. I'm tired of the hands off approach to habitat restoration. the world will never be as it once was, we will have to create the world we want. and I for one think there is room for dams and salmon population recovery.
