Even with tuition rising, going to college will most likely pay off in the form of higher salary. But what if you weren't sure you'd legally be able to get a job after you graduate?

I came to the US at 9yo. was undocumented all the way through HS & got daca at 21, so continued to have no status throughout college. I am now a green card holding engineer. US aid and school adminstration/board are the primary reason why tuition is high. Most of the money goes to the board of the school rather than the infrastructure and teachers of the school. Also with the arrive of finanical aid, schools no longer have incentives to reduce tuition since government aid will remedy any addition cost.

Many things don't require a American ID. You can pretty much open a bank account with your country of origin ID or passport and education is a right that is provided to any children from kindergarten to 12th grade high school regardless of status in the country. We can even file taxes with an ITIN number, and create our own business. Some states can even issue a driver's license. Illegal are not undocumented, as many of these migrants do have documents that allow them to live close to a normal life as an American citizenship but without the benefits of course. They are undocumented in the sense that they lack documents that prove American residency or citizenship, but not undocumented in the literal way.

No one should be disbarred from getting an education. If people work hard, show promise from high school, have good gpas, etc. They should have the opportunity to go to school, if they choose to. College isn't some pipeline to getting a job. It is a higher educational building and should give you the opportunity to obtain different outlooks on your journey. To deciding on what you want to do for your general future (this can include a career but shouldn't be limited to that). If you go to college just with the mindset of getting a degree for a specific job only, you are going to miss out on opportunities campuses offer in many cases.

I suppose it's understandable: if you have 2 similar candidates, havung a degree even in an unrelated area can be a tie breaker, demonstrating some standardized level of ability and commitment. It doesnt mean the college graduate will always get the job, but over an entire population they will tend to get picked more often. Thats all it takes. You're right about foreign governments. But if they want to attend go for it and best of luck to them. They shpuld be aware of the risk of the debt they can potentially accumulate, graduation rate, job prospects, etc. Trades should also be something people look into more. Just my 2 cents, great vid though. if you came here by parents who drug you into being undocumented and you pay into the system just like everyone else, of course I don't mind you get education here, I encourage everyone to get higher education as needed weather it be college or trade school. If you came here to take advantage of the good people of this country and run back home with the spoils you took from our good will...... we are full and you can go back home. We need more people who want to become a citizen who are stuck in difficult situations like this to be able to become a full citizen and contribute to society. We welcome people like you.

IMHO people without proper documentation in USA should only seek to become a business owner as that doesn't require a proper documentation. Small, big business doesn't really matter... as you always make more money than working for someone, unless it's like a specialized field like surgeon or science or something but you can't get that kind of a job anyway...

I would imagine that the decision of whether to go wouldn't be unlike an American. Obviously, if they have a job that promises a certain income and requires a degree, they should go. However, many trade jobs do not require a degree at all and just require training. However, it's good to debunk the myth that being undocumented can bar you from going to college, even if there are some unique challenges.

For their parents to ever make enough money to pay enough taxes to negate the financial burden of educating an anchor baby they would have to make over $100K BEFORE deductions as a household. As a Native NYer of Latino and white ancestry who has lived in Ecuador for almost a decade. Here is my opinion based on what I have seen down here and watching this video. If you are allowed to study in America and get a Masters or Doctorate. First of all it can’t be for those who support Socialism. So many interactions with people down here who believe in Socialism and they bad mouth America yet they get higher education degrees from our country. Second be grateful and humble. Other people who I have met who aren’t Socialists or Capitalists who come from South America are arrogant, materialistic and again look down on America. Yet love everything that America has compared to down here which is so/so. Third fix your immigration status and those shaking their heads while reading this. When I came down to live in Ecuador, it was a hassle to get my paperwork and everything sorted out for my college degree. You have to VET people and make sure they say who they are and have everything in order especially no serious crimes that they haven’t served time for. You can’t have double standards. The same for all. Higher education is going to change in the next couple of years as well with the advancements in A.I. I know people who get higher education degrees and they can’t find a job not just down here but in the states as well. That’s something that has always been pushed upon Students. Many forget blue collar jobs that it seems the newer generations are shifting towards. I graduated from Aviation High School in Queens NY back in the day but never entered the field. Also getting a higher education degree down here has become a status symbol and I hear the same thing is happening in the states. So in conclusion if you come to America get a student Visa if possible and work hard and don’t be a socialist. If anyone reading this is a Socialist why not get your degrees in Socialist countries like Russia or China. Oh and if you get offended by me reminding people of Socialism why do you think people come to America when down here Socialist countries fail in a matter of years and leave the countries worse off.

"getting a higher education degree down here has become a status symbol and I hear the same thing is happening in the states." - college degrees have always been a form of a status symbol, all the way back to the founding of universities. I was in this situation. The reality is, it's not worth it unless it's something useful and unless you are actually able to work. If you cannot find a realistic path to citizenship (for most people, it's legally ONLY marriage), then don't waste your time and just go back to your country. America has already jumped the shark, so I'm not going to make any argument in defense of the long term detriments of pumping the workforce. You as an individual should look out for your family's needs, and you should look at your situation on a pragmatic basis. If it makes more sense to work in the US while DACA (which is flimsy) is valid, then do so. If you're working a factory job with no path to citizenship, then there's no point to staying in the country, let alone getting a degree in something that's not going to actually help you have a job in the event that you are not able to legally work anymore. Liberals don't actually like you, they only like that you swing the Hispanic vote to their side of the isle and want to exploit you to perpetuate their systems, in this case, the academia industry that serves as the defacto seminary of the liberal order. Be pragmatic, don't listen to people who don't view you as people.

If people come legally to this country and pay the out of country tuition, of course they should be able to attend. The govt should be in the business of serving legal citizens and legal immigrants. If people come illegally to this country, they need to be treated as the laws we already have in place state for processing illegal people. No way should the government be funding for them to have a free place to live and free food to stay in our country illegally. Nor should people who are here illegally be able to get scholarships over and above legal immigrants and legal citizens. It's not fair to those who put in the hard work to follow the legal processes to come here. Nor is it fair to those who have always lived here legally and paid taxes.

Well, this subject is very closely tied to USA’s economy and we all need more awareness around it. It gets tiring to hear so much about how “those immigrants are coming to our country and getting federal loans for schooling but they don’t want to pay them back”. No. They don’t even qualify to begin with. Yet, they find ways to graduate, which shows it can be done and it also shows US citizens and residents that they don’t have to solely rely on student loans. Also, if the undocumented students/graduates (who were also raised in the US) are then allowed to enter the workforce with a US degree, that would greatly benefit our economy. So it’s a win-win situation.
