For anyone who's wondering, I use this tool on almost a daily basis for pretty heavy tasks and it's finally packed in today after almost two years. I'll be switching to the fuel version now which wasn't available when I bought this originally. It's a cracking tool and if the fuel wasn't available then I would get another one of these. Great video, thanks bud

Oddly enough I have the DeWalt and the Milwaukee M18. I love both for very different reasons. I find the DeWalt is great straight on with the trigger system. For turning the tool in certain situations the Milwaukee is great. They both perform great with the trigger control on the DeWalt handy for variable speed situations. The Milwaukee I find is great where the constant speed is used. You cannot go wrong with both!

Thanks Brad. First time viewer. As others here have said this is just the review I was looking for. I am not a contractor and I just want to know if the tool is recommended for occasional home use. Period. My tools are just for that and I am in the market for an oscillating multi tool. The tools I have are the M18 line and I am very happy with their performance. I’ve been looking into this tool or the fuel model but you can’t beat the price if the performance is there. I suspected the fuel would be overkill for me but it’s reassuring to hear it from someone who I’m sure has more experience than me. Enjoyed the review and I will check out your others

I've got a small bunch of Milwaukee M18 stuff, and I've been looking at this multi-tool too. All my kit is the 'basic' non brush-less versions which many people will scoff at but - my tools are not for my job, they are for home DIY projects, most kit spends 99% of the time in its case in the garage! The brushed kit is perfect for me - the price difference is significant. Nice review, I reckon I'll look for a deal on one of these. Nice review!

I'm a homeowner. Almost ten years ago now i bought the Milwauke M18 combo set to replace my 14.4V NiCad Makita drill and it was a great decision. The lithium ion batteries are light years ahead of the old tech. I'm considering one of these multi-tools, which is how I stumbled upon this video. I saw another video where a guy was using one for cutting vinyl siding. [side note: i've seen people using snips (cheap), reversed saw blades (ok), and a multi tool (great), but the best method of cutting siding that I saw was using a cordless cutoff saw.] My father-in-law has DeWalt gear, and I like some things about DeWalt, and others I like better in Milwaukee. ALL of my Milwaukee batteries have a 4-bar power gauge. The DeWalts only have it on the bigger batteries. My Milwaukee drill and 1/4" impact driver have a little LED under the chuck that really doesn't adequately light up the work area, as it's offset. The DeWalt pair has 3 LEDs around the chuck in a triangular orientation that works so much better. My Milwaukee lantern is awesome, but DeWalt doesn't make one. I have a Milwaukee stick LED light as well and DeWalt also has on; no major differences here, but I think the DW is more flexible and the MW has more hooks for hanging it... Bottom line is that they both make good gear, but not everything is perfect. It seems like these brands, and Ridgid, Makita, Bosch, and maybe a few others really make decent stuff. It's a little pricey, but it lasts.

This tool has saved my butt a few times when doing repairs around the house, most recently in repairing rotten subfloor panels. Blades for these things are expensive no matter what brand. One other thing, these tools won’t cut anything soft, it probably won’t break the skin unless you press really hard. They are basically just like the saw a doctor uses to cut off a plaster cast.
@hammerandhome
@hammerandhome 2 жыл бұрын
i would disagree on the skin. if you have a wood blade on this, forgetabout it, your getting stitches. Ive walked passed this thing and got cut up. the metal blades or fine tooth blades are perhaps not as sharp but definitely not a tool to ignore.

both Milwaukee and Dewalt are great brands, as well as bosch and Mikita. I have a lot of all of them. for woodworking type jobs I find dewalt is the best option, they have lots of sales on, the battery platform is great, and they are tough tools, Milwaukee is more geared to plumbers, electricians, Mechanics etc. they have great tools but can be a bit more pricey and they dont have as many sales. hope that helps a bit

One of the problems with this Milwaukee Oscillating tool is that after a lot of use, the locking mechanism does not work very well and you are forced to make sure the bolt is tightened good with a screwdriver or the tool eventually comes loose. I guess if you don't use it a lot, it isn't a problem but, generally, people are not going to spend the big bucks on a Milwaukee tool that is rarely used when you can buy a Ryobi Oscillating tool for much less that does the job. Plus the Ryobi stands up on the battery, which may or may not be an issue. I did notice the Rigid Oscillating tool is similar in design to the Milwaukee where it doesn't stand up.

Mine died after doing drywall (3 levels) in a home for investors im employed by. I blew it out daily and plan on taking it apart to see if I can rebuild it. Mine didn’t see heavy daily use till a couple months ago. In meantime, I was going to buy the Fuel version for around 240 bare tool, but was at Lowes and picked up a Dewalt XR with a 1.7 power stack battery for 183 out the door. I know the Fuel is quicker, but I had issues with the adjuster dial being locked in same speed etc. I believe the M18 Brushed is faster initially over the XR I just bought, but I can’t afford to not even get a year out of a power tool. Personally, if one is working in heavy drywall dust, a mask for your lungs and Brushless tools for longevity. If you’re working in a wood shop with no drywall dust and are an occasional use DIYer, the M18 Brushed will be just fine. I’m really hoping to rebuild my M18 Brushed Multi Tool when I have free time.
@hammerandhome

Does the size of the battery affect the power/cutting strength? How long does a 1.5 battery last? I’m just starting out buying tools for the first time and really want a multi tool! Thanks!
@hammerandhome
@hammerandhome Жыл бұрын
Technically the size of the battery shouldn’t effect the power output of the tool. However I have found that it does affect some tools. The 1.5 really don’t last very long and it all depends on how hard. You are working the tool. I try to get the 3.0 cp for most of my tools. And if I need larger run times I will go to the 4.0 xc

Great honest unbiased review. I'm a Milwaukee guy only because I'm married to the battery system at this point. I do like a lot of things about the Dewalt multi tool but then I'd have to start another battery ecosystem so it's a tough call for me. I don't know about Dewalt but Milwaukee has some spectacular deals on older new stock if you don't mind being a generation behind the latest and greatest model. I'm actually leaning towards a Dewalt because I love the quick release blade changing system.

Once you buy a milwaukee, it becomes very expensive very quickly because trust me, you will want to keep adding to that range, I started with brushless impact and drill kit, then got fuel grinder, fuel circular saw, fuel sawzall, sander, soldering iron, rotary tool, strimmer and now bought this multitool. Is there an AA like clinic for tool addiction? (that sounded wrong). For sanding it great, random orbits are great, but this can go in where the orbital cannot on rectangular areas such as stairs.

This was some really good info. Reminds me of the tool shows I use to watch with my Grandpa on Sunday afternoons. BTW, (grabs blade) "That's h o t...." Said every tool guy ever. lol.

You dont need a screwdriver if you open the lever fully to 180°. Gives you plenty of slack and fingertight is plenty

As someone who used porter cable before having enough money to buy milwaukee, this oscilating tool sucks compared to the porter cable one. With the porter cable one I can quickly detach the heads and offset them, this one I have to loosen a screw? Why? The inferior product wins in this competition...

No your making shit up. No doubt the nob that you twist to hand tighten the particular tool attachment is metal and designed for a flat head screw driver. How spoiled are we? You could have used one of your keys or a dime. It’s an awesome tool. The bigger question is the new brushless model worth the extra expense. Is it as dependable?

Milwaukee dropped the ball on the damn screw. My brother has the Dewalt and being able to change on the fly is great. I am apart of the red army so I went Milwaukee and it works great but changing heads is.much easier with Dewalt. The yellow just looks horrible with everything else I have. Lmao. I guess 1 out of a dozen tools Dewalt had to get 1. Lol

lol, I almost always use the m12 fuel version. It’s fairly quick to change the blade. And is far better than the dewalt

Yoh anyone need any tools i can get you what ever tool and what ever quantity. As long as its not a damn lawn mower or something. It has 2 be able to fit undwr my pants and not be bulky:) Sike!!!!! But, i am remembering how many tools i barrowed but never returned in my teenage years just to take my girl friends around and have fun. Its sad and its depressing feeling like shit knowing how expensive and the work ppl do to own one of these. When some ppl including my stupid ass would resale them for stupid cheap. It aint worth it man. The feeling you get from a tool that you have worked hard for is priceless especially when u complete a project. I dont know bout other ppl but i felt bad using stolen tools

This guy complains to much lol. I love removing that blade function without having to look for the stupid Allen wrench. If it’s hot stick a flat screwdriver or anything flat easy removal. But the Dewalt easy detachable function is a lot nicer

Brushless/Fuel is a waste of $$$ unless you're a Professional, working every day......Period.....I own Milwaukee Brushed, Brushless and Fuel......and STILL buy brushed tools half of the time!! If I was drilling concrete cutting Steel, something Hard on tools......Then I would go Brushless or Fuel......but for normal stuff, it's not needed....I don't care what anyone says, pros were making a living with brushed tools forever. It's not like brushless is Alien technology or something "magical", LOL. Driving a screw 1 second faster means Nothing to 95% of people, unless you're driving 500 screws a day and building houses.

Good point, they get the job done slightly faster, hardly a concern to joe blogg, I was tossing between this and the fuel version, but I found one at £60 with charger, 2Ah battery and case, broke, but I believe I can fix it.
