Just for sake of anyone unaware these are not the same harvest moon games from years back due to a naming licence issue the official games that were called harvest moon are now called story of seasons and the games called harvest moon now are owned by the old western distrabutor who owned the name rights after the split

As far as i know pretty accurate but unfortunately a way to unknown fact among those who loved the games back in the day potentially even among the farming games enjoyer in general. To bring a little more background info for those stumble over this comment and are interested. 'Harvest Moon' got localized by Natsume Inc. up until 2014 for the western market. The original title in Japan is 'Bokujō Monogatari' - _developed by 'Victor Interactive Software', acquired by 'Marvelous entertanment' / 'Marvelous AQL' in 2003,_ - now known as 'Marvelous Inc.' In 2014, Marvelous Inc. decided to have their own American division - Xseed Games - take over North American distribution. However, due to Natsume Inc.'s owning the rights to the Harvest Moon name, the latest titles in the series were rebranded as Story of Seasons, while Natsume Inc. began to produce their own series under the Harvest Moon name. The last Harvest Moon game by Marvelous was 'Harvest Moon 3D: A new Beginning' (2013, for Nintendo 3DS) after that point they released there first Story of Seasons game (in japan still called Bokujō Monogatari) 'Harvest Moon the lost Valley' (2014) and every Harvest moon Game after that was developed by 'Appci Corporation' an published by Natsume Inc. (I hope i haven't mixed up something but tbf it happed quite a bit to the game series ^^`)

Thanks for the review. Looking forward to playing the game. Also wow that's pricey! Here only around $35. Been playing Harvest Moon since the first series. I can see the improvement.

The lengthy early handholding reminds me of Dragon Quest Builders. I almost gave up on that one but stuck it out and had a great time. Sadly this game looks like it has some good ideas hidden behind a lot of tedium. I mean who thought falling rocks to make mining such a chore was good game design? I may pick it up when in goes on sale down the track. Either way thanks for another great review.

Oof the falling rocks are so infuriating. They also drain your stamina if you get hit as well, so you can’t mine for as long. Totally agree with dragon quest builders too. And kingdom hearts is the same haha. Thanks for watching!!

Thanks for the review! I have the same feeling about a lot of Harvest Moon games. Sadly, they took the name from the original company that made harvest moon and they are called Story of Seasons now. I tried to play this game, but just couldn't get into it. I really like that you had such a nuanced opinion about it!

Harvest Moon is now called Story of Seasons after Marvelous has begun self publishing around 2014. You could try Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town on switch. Or Trio of Towns on 3ds. Harvest Moon: A New Beginning is the last game Natsume published for Marvelous, that's a good one.But if you want something else there's Coral Island, Stardew Valley, and Fae Farm

Thank you for this review. I won't be buying it because what you described I'm so disappointed with. Even if it has addictive qualities to enjoy, the bad seems to very much outweigh the good for what I'd enjoy.

Not really something I'd buy. It's pretty much good and bad at the same time though. I'd get bored at the start and play something else. But a good review though. Also a good person doing the review too.

I personally found it much less boring than the SOS games, I have about 40 hours in both and have had more to do in Winds of Anthos than POOT or Mineral Town specifically. It's not for everyone though

You have to wait until you’re able to unlock those small statues, and once you find them in each area and activate them you can then fast travel between them 🙂

I forced myself to play for 40 minutes or so and then gave up. Nothing sucks my will to live faster than being stuck on a boring slow ass intro while the game teaches me that r3 equals camera and X equals inventory, like I'm braindead and wouldn't figure this out by myself. And it's just poor execution all over, you can hold action to plant but can't do the same chopping trees or mining so just have to stand there pressing the button a hundred times... Everything we learn not to do in software development they do on these games, very impressive how a major studio with a nice budget can make so much effort to suck everytime. Some dude made stardew valley while sitting alone half naked on his room but professional game devs can't get simple stuff right. Depressing.

Yep if I wasn’t set on reviewing it I would have likely given up too. It does pick up eventually, but the start is terrible. Totally agree

Sounds like you have a zoomer attention span. As for Stardew, look, it's good and all but people got to stop demanding that every farm game that comes out is just a clone of it. Despite how barebones this games open world is, it is STILL the most interesting concept I've seen from a farm game in a while. Not to mention the core gameplay elements it got down, some of which are even better than Stardew.

The death of Harvest Moon... DLC. I mean, I already matured enough to find these games repetitive, boring and time-wasting (they never evolved beyond the SNES and PS1 systems). Putting micro-transactions on it is just insulting to me. Wasn't Story of Seasons better now?

The Story of Seasons Developer are the same people who made the Harvest Moon games until 2013. Due to licenseing issues they had to rebrand there name outside of Japan. The publisher/developer of the Harvest Moon games past 2014 are just capitalizing of the name and the nostalgia many have reading that title.

The dealbreaker for me was when the MC keeps making that mouth gaping open sprite. It's probably supposed to be silly/cute, but lmao I can't stand it. The art sucks. Also the story cutscene at the beginning was definitely weird and trippy. I didn't even get it until I googled it because the goddess...just stands there while a volcano rained destruction upon the world, I guess? And then she just sort of fell asleep or disappeared or AFK or whatever. I mean, maybe the open world is a nice touch, but I played this for like a whole minute and I immediately never ever touched it again. Natsume need some serious working on the art, the character models as well as the storytelling if they are ever going to come out of the 'clickbait because this is no longer the HM you know, that's in another farm (Story of Seasons) el o el' hole.

Appreciate the honesty on the game! I was almost gonna say awesome review but changed my mind quickly because of the use of Gods name in vien though.... Im debating between this game and the newest remake of a wonderful life.

I get the complaints but I don’t see why adults and grown men complain about something which is clearly designed for young kids, and particularly girls. People complain these titles are not Stardew Valley but they’re not supposed to be. That was a mature take on Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon was never deep or mature. It’s a cute cosy game for the young.

So many problems with this comment I don't know where to begin, but I will start with the claim it is particularly aimed at girls. Are you living in the 50's? Furthermore adults are entitled to critique the game on its merits as the reviewer did whether you believe they are the target audience or not. Because when Harvest Moon was originally released, the gaming demographic that all games were aimed at was boys and men. Hence "bachelorettes" in the originals. Only reason its here for you to play is cause I played it 25 years ago lol. Thats how things work. Stardew Valley is a far closer take on the original Harvest Moon's than these new ones. I played it on the N64 and SNES. Ellen's dad was the town drunk. That same Ellen becomes Elli's grandmother and can die in game in N64. Even in A Wonderful Life, your child with Nami grows up dealing with depression and shit. Get a grip. You can like something and people can still have legitimate gripes with it.
