I believe aluminum cans are decent place to
if you are new to scrapping. They have some decent value, they are fairly common, and most scrap yards will buy them. I have been collecting cans and donated them or scrapped them personally for years.
There are some draw backs to them, I will admit. Cans are light weight, so you have to have a lot if them. Their contents can be sticky, can sour, and potentially draw insects and other animals if they aren't cleaned or stored in a closed container. Lots of folks scrap cans so the market price is generally lower than you want it to be.
So why do I like cans? I like canned drinks so it makes sense to keep them. I find them in almost every parking lot I visit. It is also possible to ask folks if you can collect their cans if they don't keep them to scrap. Cans generally seem to be a decent thing to passively scrap.
