I made the switch and it really helped my game. It took a few months but now I’m beating players that I couldn’t before. More power, spin and consistency.

I switched from the classic forehand to the modern forehand about 4 years ago. It took me about 9 months before I didn't have to think about it. I'd also played around with the next gen forehand too but it was easier to just work on one that I didn't have to think about. Today, I worked on hitting them all with the next gen forehand and it worked out fairly well. I had to prep a bit earlier and get the forwards/backwards spacing right but there was more power and spin with the next gen. My hitting partner was sometimes surprised because the ball kicked up more than he was expecting. My hitting partner today was a hard, flat, consistent hitter. I'm going to try it against a heavy topspin player tomorrow and a guy who hits bullets on Friday. He'll be a good test on whether I can use this forehand when I'm really pressed for time.

I made the switch to next gen FH and it took me months to get used to it. It drastically improved my speed, spin and power and now beating players that I haven't beat before.

As a right handed athlete, playing tennis lefthanded next gen forehand was natural because I overran balls all the time and got jammed. Add some high spin string and you will quickly see opponents offer alien type forehand shanks.

I am a beginner player who plays almost every day at least one hour, and I try to find the right forehand for me, that is easy to mechanize, that allows me to generate an offensive game which is what I like, and that adapts to the court which in my case is clay. With the information you show gives me an idea of the differences between the forehands and to advance in my right. Thank you very much for your help.

Did this a few months ago. Couldn’t be happier. Could not do the modern forehand spacing and racquet kept breaking the plane. Next gen solved it all for me.

I accidentally used this Next-Gen Forehand on 2012, it is much more different than Modern Forehand as it can be used to do the Return Serve and Groundstroke with the same styles without even switching or slightly change the Modern Backhand. I hope can have the next gen Single Handed Backhand as we have now both Next-Gen Double Backhand and Forehand today.

I switched to the next gen forehand. OMG why didn't I do it earlier. I'm getting effortless angles and heavy topspin curve cross court. A bit harder to hit down the line, either gotta slap the fh or really work around the ball to curve back in but cross court is just sensational. Can setup earlier and very hard to grip tight with racquet facing forward so it's perfect to learn racquet lag. I recommend it wholeheartedly. It's a game changer. You also don't need heavy racquets or anything. The lag does all the work from racquet pointing forward.

We're seeing that more and more as well. Alcaraz is a great examople of that as well, although I would consider his forehand to be more next-gen than modern.

I must be in the minority here because I made the next gen switch, 6-9 months later, I went back to the modern take back as I couldn't be consistent enough using the next gen technique my control was substantially worse with next gen.

We all must do what works best for our games. While the next-gen style works for some, the modern forehand is still the gold standard!

Only Djokovic and Sinners strings are pointing back really. The others not that much
@Playyourcourt
@Playyourcourt 8 ай бұрын
Although the orientation of the strings is how the "next gen' is sometimes identified..we're focusing more on whether the elbow is high on the takeback hence the recommendation of switching if you struggle with spacing of the arm and hip . Honestly we're seeing a lot of hybrids these days between the two as well. Just remember these are stylistic differences and the importance of a great forehand still lies with solid fundamentals! Thanks for watching

I am from 90's generation. I don't see any reason I have to switch. At the rec level, anything that is fundamentally good is good enough.

110% correct. If it's not broke don't fix it. These are stylistic differences and the importance of a great forehand still lies with solid fundamentals. Some styles help support improved fundamentals of the stroke for an individual wheras some do not. Everyone has to find what works best for them! Thanks for watching!

I had the same feeling like you. I changed my mind recently because younger players with modern styles is so powerful and I couldn't keep up. End up I have to adapt to modern styles to handle them and I did better than before. I can generate strong power hits and at the same time I can control the direction of the balls moving better than before
@tomsd8656
@tomsd8656 4 ай бұрын
@bn6942 If a player is at a higher level than I am, there's nothing I can do about that no matter which forehand I use. The only solution would be to up my level. If not, I can handle them with my same game, because after a while they'll miss. It's the same reason you don't see McEnroe or Jimmy Connors or any of the old pros switching to the modern forehand.

@tomsd8656 I agree with you 100%. If it's going to increase your performance by 30%, would you consider to change for better? For me I would
@tomsd8656
@tomsd8656 4 ай бұрын
@bn6942 That depends on how old I am. If I am a young guy I'd probably play with the next gen FH anyway. But at my current age, I am not switching. When you make too many changes at a stage when your muscle is in decline, you're not likely to benefit but might get injury.

If it wasn’t for Federer, everyone would still be copying Agassi and Blake and Lendl. Someone will show up with a flat fast forehand with minimum take back ala Blake, and they will beat Alcaraz and sinner with that shot. One day they’ll appear. For now, spin and big racket heads with 16x19 rule…soon back to 93 square inch and 18x20. 🔥

Because I hit extremely flat and hard, my forehands stay low and literally all next gen forehands from atp players I’ve played in the futures lately cannot handle my shots. They can’t get there timing right with my forehand. So keep learning the next gen forehand and I’ll beat you on the court… good luck. Any hard flat hitter will have a huge advantage

Coach, one question Nadal use low elbow and I love low elbow hits when the ball at medium and low. Low elbow give me more relax and freedom to hit better than high elbow. Could you please help me which way is better? Which condition to use high and low elbow??
