I have used free templates as the starting point for a number of websites I have built and it has worked well. My thought is there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

I m building all the time themes and plugins for my WordPress projects. most of the time I m using some ready html templates and I m converting them to WordPress thems (Classic, Block themes and hybrid) it's not something so much difficult. in case that you want tobhave the option change the styles you are building settings for the theme customiszer or you can build blocks for FSE. At the end of the day you ve got a flexible result that when your customer ask you for a change you can do it just with few clicks and you will be well paid for it

As a wise man once said, don't reinvent the wheel! If someone else has already done it, use it! Exception of that rule is the learning curve to understand that tool and your time frame of needing to have the job done.

if we don't reinvent the wheel from time to time, we would still be stuck with rock wheels ;). the best advice is, the use right tool for the job, just watch the video

@@nikola.yanchev So a beginner is going to invent a new and better wheel? Doubtful! Just stick with what's already available atleast until you have a really good understanding of the tools and can understand what is missing or what could be better.

Sometimes, existing solutions don't perfectly fix the problem at hand. Reinventing the wheel allows for customization and adaptation to specific needs and circumstances that off-the-shelf solutions may not address adequately. Additionally, reinventing the wheel fosters innovation and progress. If people in the past hadn't reinvented the wheel, and the first wheel designed by humans were primitive, we would still be using rocky and wooden wheels in boats, cars, and planes today. In the case of web design or development, It's not akin to traditional work, rather, It's a creative endeavor where diverse solutions are crafted to meet the unique needs of different clients. Countless templates are available online, but those are not good and don't always satisfy the needs of clients in many cases. In a professional context, building a website from scratch promote greater uniqueness and tailored solutions.

My experience with templates isn't the best. I ended up spending more time than I saved.

This happens a lot! I tended to use very lightweight templates to build off of. Or, if I used a more elaborate template, I will not make many changes.
